This is the pit and sump pumps in my basement after three days of heavy rain, but it's been at about this rate since the first day. It's been giving me a lot of grief the past few months.

Our basement flooded a year ago when the sumps failed after a heavy early morning rain and I came home from work to 8"-10" that wiped out our water heater, furnace, washer, dryer, bottom half of our drywall, and most of the stuff in storage. These are new sumps that were installed by the plumbing service. Typically you would want a battery powered pump, but one wasn't available at the time of our emergency.

I've been weighing the idea of replacing one of these with a battery backup, but I am concerned most about the amount of water entering the pit. It doesn't seem normal. If I lost power during another storm like this there could be major damage in a very short time. And if I had to rely on a single battery-powered pump during an outage, I don't know that it could handle this workload.

There are some foundational issues that I am going inquire about soon that might be contributing. But financially I don't think I can handle many more repairs or replacements.

Noticed we had water leaking whenever I would flush. Took the top off and saw that this little spout was spraying. Not sure if that is what it’s meant to do or not, doesn’t seem right to me. We never had these leaks before but I recently installed a bidet and I think it’s been doing this since then.

Im replacing some old copper with pex in my crawlspace. Is there any practical reason for the way they did this copper? Or can I just go straight and take the red path? And add a shut-off around the area circled red?

It just seems odd to me that they turned right only to come right back, making me concerned there is a reason I shouldn't eliminate it lol

Hired a licensed plumber late last fall at a premium rate to add a couple Tee's, ball valves and arrest hammers that will feed irrigation valve boxes. While nothing leaks I felt the work did not look great (not level, awkward locations of ball-valve handles).

My spring project will now tie in the irrigation but I see white crud on every single joint he soldered and there was a gob of goo in the middle of one of the pipes.

Am I looking at flux corrosion?

I installed a shark bite angle valve to connect to my fridge water line, but for some reason the water won't flow through it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

We’ve had a lot of rain. This pipe and check valve is attached to a buried basket with a 1/4 hp Drummond sump with a 1750 gph flow. The manual says it auto drains from 2” to .75” water depth. The check valve in the picture is confirmed good. There is another check valve in the buried basket approximately 2’ lower elevation.

I’m unsure if this is short cycle operation, possibly due to the other check valve being faulty, or if the basket is just rapidly filling and the pump drains this fast. I did the math and it seems like it should run for at least three or four seconds to drain (24” diameter basket draining 1.25” at least partially filled by the pump itself) but I’d like another opinion before I start digging to look at the valve.

What is this black tubing coming up from the ground (lower left)? Is it easy for DIYer to work with?

I'm not a professional but I've done a bit of my own plumbing, working with copper and pvc. This is in the crawlspace at a cottage and the black tubing comes up from the meter (in a outside pit). This shutoff valve has cracked and needs to be replaced. Not a lot to work with here so I'd love to be able to remove this without desoldering but then I need to, obviously, put it back. Do I need special tools to work with this tubing?

The water main in my house is installed by sheer bending it. I have requested builder to install a 90 degree as all the connections here are stressed and waiting to leak/burst. They eluded to that this is normal. What do you guys think ? Course of action ? Location: Canada Thanks 😊

I'm looking to replace our existing double bowl kitchen sink with a single bowl Delta kit from Costco.

The potential new sink has an offset drain in the back right corner and we want to install a new garbage disposal.

The existing pipe appears to be glued besides the p-trap collar that you can see on the side that connects to the wall.

Is the best plan of action to cut everything out and start new? Should I look at getting a sink that has an offset drain to the left or in the center?

I have a dishwasher to the left of my sink, and the new sink will presumably be deeper than my existing one.

Please let me know if this is something I should just hire a plumber for, or if it's doable for a DIY'er who considers themselves decently handy.

Needed to silicone the faucet because water was getting under into the cabinet. The plumber for the builder messed up the treading and broke some tabs on this plastic nut. It is not standard since the ID is .88 inch instead of 1/2 inch. Know where I can find a replacement?

I've been plagued with this super annoying sound coming from my 3 way shower assembly for a while, it happens whenever I turn the water in and off from any faucet in the house, I've replaced both cartridges under warranty from mowen and the noise still persists. I have a water softener and the noise still happens wether it's bypassed or not.

Any help or ideas would mean the world to my sanity.

How can I remove this shower handle? I’ve been gripping the end and turning the other end to the left but it won’t turn at all - what am I missing - thanks guys!

I live in an old 1920s era home with mostly updated copper and pex piping. A plumber just installed the Flo by Moen. I ran a pressure test to see if I had any small leaks by turning off my water main shut off valve. My home plumbing is not holding pressure…

I tried to troubleshoot on my own already. I turned off the shut offs in front of the water heater to isolate the leak (not impact, leak seems to be on the cold side). I also turned off all toilet shut offs that were accessible although one of the toilets is wall hung with the tank in the wall so I couldn’t find a shut off.

Based on this, it seems I have a leak, but not at any of the obvious locations… do you have any recommendations for how to proceed? Is now the time to call in a professional to look for possible in-wall pinhole leaks?

What would be the best way to connect up a shower drain to that lead down there? Also that lead is kinked so not really sure. Ptrap is under foundation

The top part of my bath faucet is leaking (where the handle goes) and I assume that the cartridge needs to be changed. I’ve removed most of what seems the components and I can see the cartridge, but I don’t know how to remove it! I’ve tried loosening another part with vicegrips but I didn’t want to force too much on it. I also see two bolts and nuts but I don’t want to risk breaking/loosening/ losing anything before I know it’s what I have to do…

P.s: I can’t find the brand anywhere on the components so I can’t go look it up online.

I’m removing my broken ice machine that came with the house and it is connected to a dual air gap. What’s the best and most reliable way to remove the ice machine’s drain line?

Can I cap off the hose or should I replace the air gap?

My main water shut off valve is leaking at the gland. I've tightened the gland nut all the way in at this point but it's still dripping now.

Wondering if anyone could help identify this valve, I'm pretty sure it's got a male thread on the inlet (bottom) and a female thread on the outlet (top). I can't seem to find an exact replacement.

I want to call the city and have them shut off my water and I'll replace it myself. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

My partner and I just bought and moved into a new place. The water heater is from 2023 and we had it drained by a professional plumbing team shortly after moving in.

I woke up this morning to a weird sound coming from the basement. I am almost certain it is coming from my water heater. It sort of sounds like a woodpecker or a really quick drumming. It starts, goes on for a half second and then stops. I timed the interval between one set of noises to ~20 seconds. It kept going off every few seconds for a few minutes before stopping entirely 5 minutes ago or so. This is the first time we’ve heard this sound since moving in two weeks ago,

I redoing a bathroom and am not sure if I should replace the copper pipe. How should I replace it if I do? Should I try to unscrew it from the cast T or just replace the whole T?

Got two spigots which leak out of the handle. One is coming through the pin down screw. Worth replacing or just leave it as the guy at ace hardware said it wasn’t worth fixing.

I have taken everything apart and cleaned out all blockages but the drain still gets clogged up through both sinks as soon as a run the sink for 10 seconds or more. I thought it was my old dishwasher causing issues so I yanked it and capped off that route with a wire nut until I can fix this and hook another dishwasher up. It drains but very slowly but I don’t want my sink backing up every time I do dishes. For ref I did not install this plumbing; it is in a house I bought and was already there.
