Some of the newest sets have extremely rare cards, one specific card is worth around $1500. I’ve been out of the hobby for a few years so I’m just speculating but last time it got this popular was for this same Pokémon from another set
Does anyone actually want this card (like to play with or for their collection or cause they like the look of it) or does everyone just want it because it has a price tag? Is that all it is inflating the value on that Umbreon?
There’s a huge collector, and a huge competitive scene. But people like this ruin it for the kids and people playing for fun, and for the serious players who play in tournaments. Resellers like them make it impossible for some people to find the newest cards in local stores.
I play MTG casually and have definitely been priced out of cards helpful to decks, so I get it. But I started getting proxies and it’s been amazing. I can play the decks and cards I want which is great cause I usually get to play for a couple days once or twice a year when I see some friends.
My opinion is that Wizards gets paid for people buying the packs, the resale market gets them nothing. It hurts card and comic shops so I feel bad for not supporting them in resale, but they’re also getting in on the scalping and inflated prices for cardboard.
So I recommend nice printed proxies for anyone who wants to play but is priced out.
True theres been some high points in pokemon, but the hobby has never been this popular since the original release of the cards. Even with evolving skies and surging sparks, I saw product on shelves. I still havnt seen a single prismatic evolution product in stores as of yet, it's insane...
