MOD POST Official Pune Reddit Meetup: 21 Dec 2024, 4 PM at Sambhaji Maharaj Park

Hello!

Based on feedback in the previous announcement post, the location of the meetup is Sambhaji Park on JM Road.

I'll create a telegram group to coordinate. Or you can join the discord too.

https://discord.gg/JKPaYawh

https://t.me/+3e91X3GdZwUwYjU0

Edit1:

Everyone interested, we will me meeting near the water dispenser.

🚆For people coming by Metro, please take the exit towards Sambhaji Park (J.M Road) and not Balgandharva.

🏍️For people coming on bike there is a parking in the park itself but make sure you get the vehicle out before the park closes. Irrespective of where the meetup heads.

🚙The same applies for four wheeler, although space is limited and if the parking gets full you may park it in pay and park next to McDonald's.

There is street side parking available in several pockets along JM Road but make sure you park the vehicle in the appropriate zone as the fine and towing cost is hefty.

AskPune Pune laptop repair shop installed virus (TROJAN/ HACK NOW) and any desk. Had sisters photo in it. What to do???

I gave him an old laptop to extract data from old hardisk and install new hardisk. When I got it back it had anydesk which raised suspicions and when I did full scan from windows defender I saw these.

When I confronted he said it must have gotten installed from pirated drivers and he was unaware. I am not sure if he is telling the truth.

I have warned him to delete any photos if he have saved any. He was pretty scared and assured he didn't.

What should I do.

Reposting with more details as previous post got taken down due to flair.

SCAM Alert Fed up with Uber Auto scams — Charged ₹45 for a ₹26 meter fare. What the hell is going on?

I booked an Uber auto which showed ₹45 as the fare. Once I got in, I told the driver that I’ve heard they’re following meter rates now, not Uber’s. He agreed and started the meter. After the ride, the meter showed ₹26 — but he flat-out refused to accept that amount and demanded ₹45 as shown on the app.

I tried reasoning with him, saying if we're using the meter, I should pay what the meter shows. But he wasn’t ready to listen and kept arguing. I ended up paying ₹45 just to avoid further conflict and also it was not a huge amount— but this is just not acceptable.

How is this allowed to happen? They can’t just pick whichever system benefits them. Either go by Uber’s fare or go by the meter — not both when it suits them.

Strict action needs to be taken against such behavior. This isn’t just a one-off — I’m sure many people are facing this. Is there any authority we can report this to ?

Food/Cuisine Satviks Tandoori misal - aesthetic much?

Having tried Katakir, newale and jogeshwari came across this misal spot and been continuously going there since then.

Well the taste is really good, not exceptional nor poor (usually i need spicy food since I'm used to tarri poha). Less waiting time. Comes in a earthen pot setup. Unlimited. And that smoke is a pretty nice touch.

Also their mango lassi is great!

Please suggest such quick breakfast spots, i don't want to get bored by going to the same place everytime.

General/Rant Paranormal experience in Pune

Back in 2016, I was working at an IT company in Bavdhan, near Maratha Mandir. One evening, my boss asked me to stay late and complete an urgent task, which I agreed to. My CTO and I stayed after office hours and worked until the task was finished. Afterward, we decided to grab a late dinner at Vanashree, as it was usually open late. It was nearly midnight when we left to head home on our bikes. I was living in Bibwewadi at the time.

At the main Chandani Chowk, people often wait for shared rickshaws or six-seaters. I saw a man standing at the stop. I passed him but then thought that, given the time, there wouldn’t be any shared rickshaws or six-seaters available. It was late, after all. So, I turned my bike around to offer him a lift. The man was thin, dressed entirely in white—an untucked white shirt and white pyjama-style pants, with a plastic bag in his hand. His attire reminded me of something you might see on someone from a village.

I asked him, “KUTHE JAICHA AHE KAKA?” (Where are you headed, uncle?). He replied that he was going to Warje. I casually asked why he was traveling so late, and he explained that he had just finished work and was on his way home. He got on my bike, and I started riding toward Katraj via Warje.

At the time, I was younger and tended to ride quickly. The road, a highway, was usually quite empty with only a few cars. I picked up speed, lost in my thoughts. After a while, I realized that I had crossed Warje Bridge but hadn’t asked him where exactly he needed to be dropped off. I opened my helmet flap and asked, “BAHUTEK APAN WARJE CHYA PUDHE ALO NA?” (I think we’ve crossed Warje, right?). There was no response. I asked again, “TUMHALA KUTHE UTRAICHA HOTA?” (Where did you want to get off?). Still, no answer.

I then reached back with my left hand to check if anyone was still sitting behind me. To my shock, there was no one there. Chills ran down my spine, and a big smile crossed my face as I realized what had just happened. I had experienced something paranormal. I called my mom immediately and told her about it. She was incredibly scared and so worried that she and my brother walked down to the main road to meet me, which was quite far from where we lived.

Fortunately, I didn’t experience any physical symptoms like fever or illness, which some people claim to get after encounters like this. I kept trying to call my CTO, but he didn’t answer. He was also on his bike, heading toward Baner. Once he reached home, he called me back, and I shared the whole experience with him. He was so frightened by my story that he kept the lights on in his 3BHK apartment all night since he lived alone.

This strange encounter left a lasting impression, and it's something I’ve never forgotten.

Dog Adoption alert! Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa

I have been taking care of these puppies, but their mother has abandoned them and they need a place to go. If you can adopt them or at least provide me with the contact details of an NGO that helps with puppy adoptions, I would really appreciate it. I already have a dog, and it’s becoming very difficult to care for all of them. Soon, I will have to let them outside because I can’t afford to keep them.

General/Rant Near Ramwadi Metro Station - Autowalas harassing another Auto Wala

I was near Ramwadi Metro and captured this from top. Basically they're forcing other autos to not use any application. These goons keep on forcing other autos and one guy even had stick in his hand to intimidate. No wonder people preferred to walk instead of taking ride from them. I paid ₹100 extra and availed a cab. Can't feel safe with these goons.

Meta Helpful but not so helpful bike ride

I had a long day at work, had become late and wasn't getting any autos.

I was the one standing there in white, plastic bag and all, trying to get home to Warje. This dude slows down, asks “KUTHE JAICHA AHE KAKA?” I say Warje. He nods, seems cool.

And then… he just drives off.

No "chala basa", no confirming nothing. Just vroooom.

I stood there like a rejected NPC in GTA, watching his tail light disappear into the night.

Thought maybe he changed his mind. Sucks, but whatever.

Anyway, I took a rickshaw. Reached home fine. Thanks for nothing.

I was in & around Tulsibaug Ram mandir today & the declining youth population at community events is more than evident. What could be a solution to this? Better event organization? More cleanliness? Or is too much crowd an absolute no-no

AskPune Any passionate mechanics here to discuss AC issues on my 15yo old suv?

Namaste Punekars,

डोक्यावर उन्हाळा आणि मनात गारवा

The summer heat is just right above the head but i've been not able to enjoy and chill because, my freaking car ac ain't working.

So, I've been trying to get help on 15 years old SUV. I've spend 40k on servicing A/c but haven't got any tangible outcome. I thought about dropping this here to get help from some passionate Mechanics here (may be self taught) or in case if you know anyone who have previously owned a similar car, and may have got some work done.

So let's get started.

  1. This Model of my Ford, doesn't come with a Condenser fan, hence, I have added after-market DIY fan, which can be turned on/off manually (PS: there was no significant blow to the AC)
  2. The radiator fan is connected with the Engine
  3. Compressor was changed 2-3 years ago, the cold line coming out of the compressor does get's cold but doesn't throw 'crisp-cold' air inside the cabin
  4. The inside evaporator was also changed at the same time, this got the cooling down from 20c to 17c but nothing great
  5. The cabin air feels more like a warm-ish or barely cold-ish with moisture
  6. I was thinking the potential reasons could be condenser, or evaporator valve
  7. The model of this car comes with dual evaporators one in the front and the one in the back, the back one also does not get's cold (so ruling out that the front-evap is probably wrong)
  8. The gas was changed 20days before, and yet no tangible output, you keep the car running for about 15mins and the temp. drops from 17c to 14c
  9. One observation that I recollect is that the cold-line pressure was about 30ish PSI, and hot-line was zero (I could be wrong or it may have not been connected to the hose-pipe)
  10. Another observation is that the CAR does blow cold, and get's cold in the evening after 5pm. So it's basically over-heating or isn't working anymore on the day-time 37-c, temp?

I was also looking at recommendation and honest reviews for:

  1. Cool Car AC - Near Yerawada
  2. Climate Engineers - Karve Road

Both seems to have tonne of fake reviews. JustDial gives fake packages, I know.

I've personally been to Cool Car AC for small work, but that experience was okay-okay, it was not bad, it was not ugly, was expensive a bit (can be tricky). They have asked me to leave my car for 2-3 days so they they can hood-up and diagnose the car.

Have never been to the Climate Engineers.

It's freaking hot in here
