HELP What is wrong with Mustang’s tail?

As pictured, he has a bunch of red dots/scabs on his tail. What do you think could be causing it and what should I do?

Does he also have bumps on his ears? It may be mange mites.

No, nothing on his ears or neck. Just his tail :)

It's probably not mites, then. It could be allergies or an infection from dragging his tail around in something nasty. Try cleaning the tail with baby soap and a wet rag, then coat it lightly in coconut oil and keep an eye on it.

I don’t want to give you veterinary advice (because I am not a vet) but my rat had red bumps (not as many as yours) and the vet said they were normal… I recommend that you take him to the vet,… but I wouldn’t panic…

Also a good cage cleaning is always warranted… and check his under fur skin for scabs (mites)
