HELP Rats with URI
I just got two rats around five days ago, both around two months old. This morning I noticed that one of them is making this awful grumbling noise that I'm almost certain is a URI. I want to treat this as soon as I can, but it is Sunday and no vet near me is open. I use an Aspen bedding with a low dust level and sift it before adding it to their cage, so I don't believe that is the cause. I'm really worried about my rats, and I assume that they both have URIs at this point. I've heard some people say that certain antibiotics can treat rats with URIs, but I don't want to screw up because I tried to help them myself. Keep in mind, I am not refusing to see a vet, but I don't have any choice until tomorrow. Is there anything I could do to treat them for now, will they be fine until tomorrow?

HELP rescued a singular rat
exactly what it says on the tin, my partner and i have recently and somewhat unexpectedly been tasked with rescuing a rat from a rough situation; he is definitely a He, i’m not sure how old he is though i would imagine under a year, and he is all by himself and has been since he was brought home from the pet store. i know rats are social animals and need a buddy, but i have also seen that males not bonded as babies will never be able to bond? i was wondering if this is true, and what the best way would be to go about handling the situation? thanks so much for any help yall can provide, it is sincerely appreciated! (also provided the rat tax, not sure if yall are as strict as the hammie subreddits abt that :P )

DISCUSSION Critter Nation Questions
Hey y’all, I’m just looking to bounce some ideas off of some fellow rat owners!
I currently have a single CN cage with my 4 boys. Everything works on that front.
I didn’t originally intend to, but I have adopted two girls from the classroom I work in. (They were taken care of properly and I got to have input too!!)
Would it be possible to get a critter nation add on and keep them separate? Like two separate cages stacked? Would there be any way to do anything like that aside from having a smaller cage sitting on top? (Which is what I’m doing now)
Is it bad for the males and females to be in the same room? I am EXTREMELY careful about making sure the doors to one or the other are closed when opening.
I really want to make this work!! I also wouldn’t mind getting a couple more girls to balance out the social dynamics for my ladies. The thing being, I’d need a bigger cage.
Thanks in advance, everyone!

HELP travel questions
i’m thinking about getting rats sometime soon, maybe later this year (i have never owned rats or any rodents in my life, if it helps). every summer me and my mom go up north to visit family for about a month, and i’m wondering what to do with the rats whenever i go. the drive is about 15 hours long and we split it into two days and stay at a hotel. should i leave the rats at home and get somebody to take care of them, or do you think i could take them with me? i’m worried about the drive and the new location stressing them out. thanks in advance!

HELP How to keep rats if I have other animals?
I currently own both a cat and a labrador (small for her size but still quite big). Any tips on how to keep my future rats safe from them? My labrador can currently push open doors by herself, however we're moving before I get rats, and the doors there are much sturdier, but I'm still not sure if she can push them open. My cat is quite predatory, he goes out at night to hunt, but is getting older, fatter and less playful. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!!

DISCUSSION Vent about cages
So mods please feel free to delete this if it’s not allowed-
Does anyone else get super frustrated that their rats cages just.. constantly stink?
I KNOW it’s a natural thing, but lately it’s just been getting to me because any chance he gets, my dad comes back to the rat room (mind you, door is closed, air purifier on full blast, and if the weather permits, I crack open the window so the boys and I can get fresh air), and he still insults me.
It’s just been weighing on me a lot lately and I just feel like a crappy rat owner because it’s not.. perfect.

HELP Replacement floor pan for double critter nation
I’m looking for someone replacement pans for the double critter nation I have a rat who has a bad habit of chewing on the corners of them and it’s not bad right now but it could get to the point where I need a replacement. I’m working on training her out of it so if anyone has advice on that go ahead and leave it in the comments. Midwest does sell replacement pans but they are 30+ each and they don’t seem to have ones for the shelves

HELP New rats fighting help!
I have a pretty big issue. I recently took in two boys from someone rehoming them(their names are remi and kimchi.) When we first got them they both had tons of scabs and a biting issue. I treated them for mites and we've worked a bit on the biting(they bit because they thought fingers were food not out of aggression.) Recently kimchi has been both biting more and also attack remi. Im gonna do intros with my boys and remi and leave kimchi for a little before reintroducing kimchi to the (hopefully) bonded trio. Is this a good idea? what else can i do? Pictures of remi and kimchi(more white)

CUTENESS Silent Runner
Someone donated a silent runner to the shelter I work at. Since we don't normally intake rats I was allowed to take it home for my girls. And oh boy. They love it, they're not running but decided it's the new hang out spot. So far I've seen 6 of my rats try to pile into it and get confused that it spins (with one already trying to chew on it)
It's a 12in wide runner, so it should be big enough for my girls. If it's not please let me know and I will remove it!
