Yearly reminder that out of 10 unsolicited messages you receive on social media/messengers, 10 are most likely scam. Creeps/psychos/idiots being in that category as well.
So if you receive a weird unsolicited DM, especially overly complimenting your hands and/or asking for more pics/videos, please 1) send a message to r/Redditlaqueristas mods with the sender's account. We will permaban them from the sub, although they will still be able to lurk and send DMs. 2) report them to Reddit admins for harassment 3) block them. NEVER respond to those DMs.
As moderators we cannot do anything about the DMs that you receive so here are some tips for the community.
To protect yourself from potential creeps, scammers, doxxers, and all kinds of crazy, do the following.
On Reddit
Create a separate account related to nails (makeup, beauty, other hobbies).
Use ONLY that account for ANY activity related to respective hobbies.
And vice versa, from that account ONLY do hobby related activities. Don't overshare!
Turn off DMs in “Chat and messaging permissions” by selecting “Chat requests -> Nobody”.
Alternatively, if you still want to have DMs on your hobby account:
Put a warning on your hobby profile in CAPS that all unsolicited messages will be reported.
If you still receive questionable messages, NEVER respond to them. Report these messages to Reddit, THEN block the sender (must do this in this order as you cannot report after blocking).
When you want to DM someone on your hobby sub, kindly tell them that in the open discussion (before DMing them, reply to their comment and ask if they're interested to discuss things privately and only if yes take matters to DMs)
Remember, ANYTHING you put out on the internet is impossible to take back. If a stranger contacts you asking for pics/videos, don't be naive. Your pics/videos might end up on some websites you wouldn't want to be associated with.
On FB/IG/ other non-anonymous platforms:
Buy/sell/swap with people you know.
Try to find/form a local group.
Check out every account that contacts you. Anything that worries you, block. Don't reply. Remember, empty account is a red flag.
Cross-platforming
If you share mani pics on a non-anon account (e.g., on FB), and you want to remain anonymous on Reddit or other platforms, DON'T post those same pics on your hobby accounts.
Obviously, don't connect your non-anon (FB, Google, etc) account to your Reddit/other accounts (on FB, find your Account Center under your profile settings, and remove any accounts that are there)
Important: NEVER use your email address that you use for your FB profile for ANY other activities on the web. No matter how easy it is to "login with FB" on other platforms, it's a potential privacy breach.
As always (back to our sub):
Please report all posts that look like AI. This is very important. (Rule 10)
Report posts with NSFW vibes (those are 99.99% bots/OF ads/scammers etc) (Rule 6)
(Also, no need to message the mods about your new account.)
Thanks everyone and be safe!

Love this colour and formula! How many coats does everyone normally like for jelly polishes?

This is two coats of Mooncat - Serpents of Eden 💚 Such a stunner, with the most beautiful shifts.

About a month ago, I got contact dermatitis from a gel-x set I did myself. I didn’t have the proper tools to remove the set, so I ended up ripping them off in a panic 🫣 as you can imagine, my nails were incredibly damaged, but ever since I’ve been taking care of my natural nails, applying the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails treatment and oiling them several times a day. Normally my nails never grow, and when I do see some growth they chip off! This is probably the longest nails I’ve had in a very, very long time!

I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this, but I've wanted to reserve some of my painting time for skittle manis. I started out doing skittles because, if you know me it will be no surprise to you that I couldn't pick just one color or polish...so why not all!? Time for Sunday Skittles!
Today is international Asexuality Day. "Ace" is a spectrum that also falls under the LGBTQ umbrella. Being Ace is valid and beautiful. I originally had a different skittle on, and when I saw a horrible tweet from our intetnational billionaire queen of petty hate JKRowling about Asexuality day, I immediately shelved it and started a new one. As I did with my pride flag collection last June, here's some info about Asexuality.
Asexuality is a sexual orientation where the person does not experience sexual attraction to anyone regardless of gender. It's also an umbrella term that can cover a whole spectrum including demisexual, gray-asexual, and others. While it differs from being Aromantic, many are AroAce which is a combo of both.
🖤Black represents asexuality 🩶Gray represents gray-asexuality and demisexuality 🤍White represents partners and allies 💜 Purple represents community

Wondering if I'm the only one who does this. As my mani ages throughout the week I get tired of it as is, but rather than replace the whole mani I tend to add onto each nail.
So a few days ago I posted my plain crème mani (see final slide). As the week went along I got a chip here and there and started to add a topcoat or a stamp to cover up/freshen. By the end of the mani I don't have any original nails.
Am I lazy or do yall do this too?
*note left thumb (4th slide) went through two edits; first a stamp and then a shimmer (thanks ILNP for completely transforming every single color I put your shimmers over!)

(ignore the wet look, cuticles were freshly oiled 🫶)
Products are: L.A Colors Nail Treatment Base/Topcoat, ColorVibe in White Out (for the dots), and L.A Colors Sheer Jelly in Heat Wave. I've never used a jelly before and can't seem to do my nails solid colors anymore so I decided to do a layered dot pattern and I kinda love it 😁

There was a recent post here that compared a few red magnetic polishes in the velvet style. So I decided to do a comparison in the cat eye style!
Here’s what’s being shown in this video clip:
Pinky and middle fingers:
Ring and index fingers:
Thumb:
Left side: Poison (applied as described above)
Right side: Fiery Attraction (applied as described above)
All fingers:
ORLY: Bonder Base Coat
DRK: Magic Effect (magnetized for 1 minute)
Glisten & Glow: Quick Dry Top Coat (magnetized for 1 minute)
I hope that this comparison is helpful, especially for those of you whose skin tone is similar to mine. Poison definitely leans more orange-red, whereas I would describe Fiery Attraction as a true red.
I wasn’t sure what I would think of wearing these together as a skittle, but I like it! I think that this combination actually helps to give even more depth to both polishes, due to how they bring out different pops of color from within each other.

So I had initially put on this blue-gray jelly shimmer for polish bingo's "polish I might not like" square because I hated how it looked in the bottle and... surprise? I actually love it?
So I stripped off the other polish I hated and applied The Salty Mermaid for a silver and gold mani that I adore!

What are all of the types of pigments, effects, etc. that won't or might not last indefinitely? I know many polishes can be restored decades later and be fine. But what are the ones that can't?
So far I know thermals will eventually stop reacting, and that some metallics will oxidize. I got a hint from a recent post that neons maybe fade or change? What about solar and GITD? Also I recently learned that holo magnetics will lose their holo-ness, or something? Anything else on the list?
(Also bonus points if you can post examples of holo magnetics, because that sounds amazing... 🤩)

This is bkl enemies to lovers. I tried the new magnet technique there you lay a long magnet (bar shaped?) diagonally on top of the horseshoe magnet. You get the two effects in one.
I am actually floored. These polishes are insanely gorgeous! The duochrome, the sheerness… I love it all.

Excuse the slight messiness and my very pink hand, I just finished these and had to capture the magic. Arcana Laquer's The Magician, three coats, magnetized cat eye on the thumb, velvet on the index and pinky, and the new combo method of bar+horseshoe middle and ring. No basecoat, Essie speed-setter top coat. I magnetized every layer, top coat layer for 4 minutes each nail.
I had high expectations based on their swatches and damn does it deliver!! The magnetic didn't seem to move quite as quickly as my ILNPs (sandbar and light wave) but the shimmer/jelly/holo effect is so stunning.
