I want a reverse betting scenario, where the MMC makes a bet with his friends that he can't get the FMC to go out with him, and is shocked and flustered when the girl he thinks is totally out of his league reciprocates his interest.

I think this would make a great book request post! I’m interested if this book exists

Oh, what an interesting premise! I would read that as well

Any MMCs with the same energy as Doc Holliday in Tombstone (1993)? If y'all have any recs for slightly mischievous, possibly sickly jacks-of-all-trades with great wardrobes and even greater loves for their partners, whiskey, and cigarettes...I'd love to hear 'em!

Thank you so, so much in advance! ❤️

Can anyone please recommend me some abused to healed Werewolf/Omegaverse books? Like the good ol’ Wattpad days type books? Flinchy, terrified Fcm, a mmc who helps her heal! Please yall 🫠

{Funny Feelings by Tarah Dewitt}. {Wild Love by Elsie Silver}. Both have some conflict, but no third-act breakup.

1

u/AnxietySnack 4d ago

I think I remember a third-act breakup in Funny Feelings. It doesn't last very long, but I remember the MMC had enough time to lament all the things he would never get to do with the FMC. Maybe it was just an argument that seemed like a breakup but without the actual words saying it's over though.

the entire series {Vancouver Storm by Stephanie Archer} - no third act breakups at all, they all communicate and talk

{A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch by Sarah Hawley} - no, when he's restored to his former glory he confesses his love to FMC instead and tells her he wants to be with her

{Business Casual by B.K. Borison} - no breakup, they're trying a long distance instead

{Battle Royal by Lucy Parker} - she kind of puts a distance between them for a day or so but they both apologize and they don't let the other person go.

{Play Along by Liz Tomforde} - he gives her divorce papers (marriage of convenience) so she can choose, but they don't break up

{Ne'er Duke Well by Alexandra Vasti) - no, even though she plans for it int he worst case scenario, he doesn't let her leave and they work it all out and talk like adults

Any CR recommendations where the MMC really doesn't care about FMC for a long time? But they interact a lot. (I don't want a confession at the end from the MMC that he wanted her the moment he saw her and just behaved like he is indifferent)

I prefer low or zero spice

2

u/katierose295 4d ago

{The Contract by Melaine Moreland} is this, but it has an average amount of spice imo. Not low, but not super high.

Okay silly question. What do you guys do when listening to audiobooks? I listen to maybe 4-6 hours of audiobooks a day the majority of days in a week. Often while I’m making breakfast, getting dressed, driving, running errands etc! But usually when I get home from work and have free time I don’t know what to do while listening to my audiobooks. Lay on the couch like a dead fish? The other day I did a puzzle and I liked that. But what do you guys do?! Asking this subreddit because this is the major genre I read ⭐️

Hi guys!! I would like to make a book request...and it's a little odd, I know.

I am searching for a book about an MMC who finds FMC in an isolated place and 'rescues' her before showing signs that he is unhinged - and she's trapped with him. She tries to escape or just survive, and usually comes to 'love' him back. Very dark, I know.

Read some really great stories on Ao3 with this plot and can't find a book like it. I'd rather avoid sassy FMCs who show no fear or are constantly making quips, if possible...I would appreciate any help!!

3

u/saturday_sun4 2d ago edited 2d ago

Are you okay with Reverse Harem? Lenore Rosewood's Ghost Alphas Unit series is kind of similar to this. Although, if you want a genuine captive/hostage book (as in, where MMC "rescues" her in order to cause actual harm to FMC), I would not recommend this since the MMCs are fairly decent to her... for the most part.

3

u/zeldazonkky Himbo Protective Services 1d ago

omg thank you SO much!! i am perfectly happy with reverse harem so thank you for the rec, excited to try it!!

3

Not quite a perfect match, but try {Surviving Raine by Shay Savage}

He rescues her. It's dark. They're both preoccupied with survival, but I don't remember a scene where she tries to escape.

Hello ya’ll. Hope you’re treating yourself with the care and gentleness you deserve

Lil rough moment going on but this too shall pass. Looking for a book to escape with. Would love a non contemporary, standalone rec with a m/f romance. I’d love to avoid any internal relationship angst and in-depth discussions of heavy topics. Some books I enjoyed before is anything by Ruby Dixon ever, I’ve exhausted most of her catalogue lol. Would prefer higher spice and lots of on page relationship building time. Thank you so much in advance!

3

u/saturday_sun4 2d ago edited 2d ago

I am not 100% sure if this falls into Dark Romance as the 'dark' part of the genre seems to involve rape and stalking by MMCs.

Are there dark romances where the world is the dark part (e.g. post-apocalyptic, Crapsack World under some fantasy dictator) but the MMCs don't abuse or hate the FMC (or if they do they are seriously called out)? Something like Lenore Rosewood's Ghost Alphas series.

I already know of Land of the Beautiful Dead. I've tried Soul Eater by Lily Mayne, but I couldn't suspend my disbelief when MMC LI just walked off with the monster. (Yes, I know, I know, I'm picky. Sorry.)

I mainly read RH or poly (e.g. MFMM), but am fine with any permutation. Thank you!

Friends to lovers contemporary romance suggestions please. I’d like the MMC to be totally hers. A smitten golden retriever and everyone knows it even if he’s going about his life. I want the FMC to be the one who’s too preoccupied or stubborn to notice how the MMC feels. Examples of books I’ve already read with this kind of premise: {People We Meet on Vacation} and {Lovelight Farms}

Does anyone know of books where the romance is sort of chill and understated rather than all consuming and lustful?

I mean to say, books where they’re not overtly affectionate but if (or when) things go south, they’re there for each other. That sort of thing.

I read a spy thriller that I can’t remember the name of with a romantic subplot where the husband and wife just tolerate each other, but when shit goes down and they face spy thriller plot stuff and betrayal and whatnot they have each other’s backs. And though there still isn’t any lovey dovey interaction between them, you know by the end that they love each other and will always be there for each other.

That’s pretty much exactly the sort of book I’m looking for. Any gender pairing works for me, and any genre except fantasy. Books with a romantic subplot I’m also fine with.

2

u/AnxietySnack 3d ago

{His Quiet Agent by Ada Maria Soto}. It's MM, contemporary about two guys who meet working desk jobs at the same intelligence agency. They're both on the asexual spectrum, and one of them doesn't really like to be touched. They show their love almost entirely through acts of service and being there for each other during tough times.

2

u/Mondprinzessin1991 3d ago edited 3d ago

Hi everyone!
I'm looking for some recommendations where the FMC is plus size (like, really plus size and not described as curvy or chubby) and where the spicy scenes are quite detailed written but not in a boring/bad way. Also, the FMC should not be shamed/badly commented on for her weight. I like some paranormal/fantasy/witchy storylines but I'm not really picky. I also don't care if it's more than one MMC but I don't like more than one FMC. I have currently read the books by J. R. Thorn and really enjoyed the Royal Covens series as well as the stand alone titles "Their Blood Queen" and "Taste Me". Especially "Taste Me" was really fun to read! Basically something like Taste Me but with a plus size character and a bit more detail in the spicy scenes :D Maybe some of you have some recommendations, I would very much appreciate them :)

{Just for the Cameras by Viano Oniomoh} is MMF with a day FMC and really well written and varied sex scenes. I think some of this author's other books might also work

2

u/Current-Finger-3516 3d ago

I really want a book where both MCs are manipulating each other, pretending to be in love etc, without knowing the other is doing the same.

It could be any plot as long as it has this trope, Open to dark romance, historical romance just no fantasy!

Any suggestions?

1

u/katierose295 3d ago

Not exact but {the Luckiest Lady in London by Sherry Thomas} has 2 very manipulative people circling each other

2

u/MoiraRoseThorn 3d ago

A weird question maybe, but help me out! I love enemies to lovers, the harsher the better. Grumpy/sunshine, boss/employee, you name it. If it's got hate (but not mafia), I'll read it.

I feel like I've kind of exhausted my contemporary options, and have been seeing so much of this is historical romance that I'm getting curious! Not sure where to start though; I've never read any. I guess I'm not into old-fashioned language and all that, so where do I begin?

Any author/title recs that I should pick up that kind of fit the bill?

2

u/InternationalAd9659 3d ago

Maybe {Fool Me Twice by Meredith Duran}

Looking for a MMF where one of the guys is pretty and feminine and the other is a rugged manly guy but they are both into each other as well as the FMC. Everything is always two giant buff alpha MMCs but feminine men can be bi too and sometimes you just need someone soft to balance out.

1

u/de_pizan23 1d ago

{Tinsel and Tentacles by Kate McDarris} - PNR, the tentacled MMC is a tall lanky pretty rockstar (although maybe not necessarily as feminine as you're looking for), the other MMC is his bodyguard (FMC is his assistant)

I’ve been struggling to find any conventions on the northeast side of the USA. I searched through the subreddit, but most posts seemed to mostly be around the south or west corners, and I can’t travel that far. Would appreciate any info! Bonus points if there’s a good selection of LGBTQ+ books, even of the conventions I’ve found few tend to have any LGBTQ+ books at all. Virtual conventions are more than welcome as well!

Okay great! - {Radiance by Grace Draven} - a fav of this subreddit: arranged marriage between two different groups where culturally they find each other ugly, but are still having fun and accepting the marriage. Slow burn. This would be an easy standalone

  • {Seduction of a Psychopomp by Elsie Winters} - another arranged marriage between a reaper and a fae essentially. FMC is very sick and marrying MMC will save her life. Lots of caretaking and super fluffy and sweet

  • for a little bit more of an epic fantasy style series maybe {Blood & Steel by Helen Scheuerer} - there’s really not much worldbuilding in this, it has a medieval feel kinda The Witcher vibes. in the world women are banned from becoming warriors but FMC is dead set on becoming one anyway. I thought this was fine, but I personally wanted more worldbuilding so it might be good for you

  • {Rowan by Elle Madison} is a series that is kinda like Scotland/Russia vibes in medieval times? So the worldbuilding is easy. It’s 4 shorter books in one, and it’s not spicy at all if that’s a dealbreaker for you. FMC (the princess) and her cousin get caught and captured in enemy territory accidentally for the winter and get traded to the family of the man that killed her grandparents.

Also Fourth Wing if you haven’t yet read it. The first book is very easy worldbuilding and the rest of the worldbuilding gets thrown in throughout the other two currently published books so I think anyone would be fine reading it

Hi! I just finished Deep End by Ali Hazelwood, and I am looking for other books that treat the kink/bdsm topic in a similar way. I found some suggestions, but they all seemed to be heavy on the smut (which I always love btw) and less on the emotional part. I'd like something that has both, like Deep End; I want to cry my eyes out because I'm empathizing with the MCs and read about dom/sub dynamics, CNC, forced orgasms etc. Thank you!!

2

u/pastelchannl weak for goths 4d ago

{initiation by alethea faust} might be an option. it is all kinds of gender pairing and heavy on the sex (because in this world magic is made through sex), but there's a lot of talk around the BDSM parts of the story. it isn't heavily emotional (that's more reserved for later books), but IMO it's well written and balances heavy smut with a good storyline.

Heyyy I'm looking for recs where the mmc & fmc marry out of love not convenience/mistake and keep it secret for some circumstances, romcom!! (maybe one or two recs with angst and all that) If not, it's okay if they started one of convenience/mistake then turns into real marriage—i don't want it to happen in the last 100 pages, I've read a lot like this and it pissed me off, so the 'secret marriage' aspect—into real relationship must be the plot majority and must have good banter and funny encounters while they sneaking 😞🙏

This is actually used as as shock for audience too in {For Never & Always by Helena Greer}, Hannah and Levi were in love and both grew up on Christmas Tree Farm, her as a future heiress (her great aunt owned that) and him as a son of a cook. He hated it there (the owner hated him too) while she adored it there. When they grew up, he left and become a celebrity chef, while she stayed in one place. Now, her aunt died and she left the place to them both (and two other friends, their book is the first in the series "Season of Love") so he comes back to get his wife back. NOBODY knows they got married.

I highly recommend Season of Love too - Hannah is a side character there and we get a love of background on her and while Levi doesn't appear, he's mentioned a lot and their backstory is also explained there to a degree.

EDIT: they don't sneak around the whole book, he actually accidentally calls her his wife in front of their entire family in the first 20%? So people know but he still has to try to win her back

Does anyone have a friends to lovers where the MMC is just hung like a horse and the FMC is shocked? Preferable if the MMC is also a virgin, but not required.

1

u/g0inP3ace 2d ago

Hello. I've been trying to find stories where the MMC is a werewolf, but he doesn't shift into human at all, like he literally just stays on his monster form. Like the lycans of the underworld movie. I saw a couple of stories, but it wasn't really the one I was looking for. I also like if the FMC is a vet or a doctor. Props if it's HEA. THANK YOU!

1

u/de_pizan23 1d ago

It's a short story, but {A Rose by Any Other Name by Miranda Sapphire} - human that was bitten by a werewolf and gets stuck in his halfway between form

and might not be quite what you're looking for, but {Ragoru Romances series by SJ Sanders} - scifi mmmf, the aliens look kind of like lycans, but they don't have another form. (In Ragoru, the FMC was a scientist I think?)

Hi guys! I've been searching for a book for several days and can't seem to find one I'm getting into. I'm searching for recs but I have very precise criteria so if it's not exaaactly this it's okay, you can still recommend it and I'll find out for myself :)

After this long intro (sorry), here are the requirements:

-enemies to lovers

-spicy contemporary romance

-great bed chem & at least 4 on the bot's spice level

-he's obsessed with her and he hates it (they, and especially him, need to crave each other)

-ideally, would be great if physical closeness followed about these steps: first kiss, first time they have sex but then she or he doesnt wanna do it again, second time and the other manages to convince the first, oral, making love (not the same as sex), without a condom, then I love yous (once more, it's okay if it's not in that particular order)

Bonus points: -brother's best friend

-he's a billionaire

I loved books by authors like Ana Huang, Lauren Asher, Elsie Silver (especially Powerless) for example.

Thank you so much for reading until that point and taking the time to leave recommendations, I appreciate it <33

Surprise pregnancy with mafia but FMC doesn’t know he’s in the Mafia?

But doesn’t specifically have to be mafia, just anything that needs to be kept “a secret” from FMC.

A lot of books (and a lot of recs) have it with Mafia but FMC knows from the beginning. I’d like her to be naive to everything and she just stumbles into it, but still be badass and not all “woe is me”.

I read a great one similar to this on Wattpad YEARS ago. I can no longer remember the name but I think he was an Alpha rather than in the mafia. But it had a really realistic set up and execution.

Would love all your fantastic recommendations!!

I need a romance book wherein there's a lot of angst. Better if it's marriage in trouble or a second chance romance. I need new ones because I feel like I've read all the basic ones.

Also, if there's just a romance book that is fake dating or arrange marriage from rival families, I'd also eat that uuuup!!

Thank you!

u/katierose295 2d ago

Older ones, so maybe you've read them but {Paradise by Judith Mcnaught} & {Lions and Lace by Megan Mackinney}

Looking for a book where the FMC has a filthy mouth and talks dirty a lot while the MMC is shy and doesn’t dirty talk.

I have read both the Golden Rush Ranch and Chestnut Springs series by Elsie Silver and loved them. Should I read the Ruby Creek series? The “single dad” premise is not my favorite and I read conflicting reviews. Thanks!

1

u/Public_Potential7796 1d ago

I don't like this series as much as the others. The characters and storylines are just missing the mark for me.

u/licorice_roll 1d ago

Thanks for the feesback! (Of course it was conflicting review but my autocorrect got crazy)

Books with an MMC who is an actually normal guy? This might be kind of an odd request, but I'm a man and I'm all too aware that I'm not the target demo for the romance genre. I have no problems reading books with a female POV and if anything that's actually what I tend to love about the genre, getting to peek behind the curtain of how girls think and feel during romantic build ups. However.... Too many of these MMCs are written in a profoundly unrelatable manner. I.e., 6'6", big and buff enough that walking into them feels like hitting a wall, confident and nonchalant 24/7, wealthy, tortured, carrying an aura of dominance wherever they go etc etc.... I want to be able to project on the MMC at least a little bit. I need books with guys who are a little frumpy. Stoners. Short kings. Guys who make enough to live comfortably but not much else. Guys who genuinely feel down bad for the narrator and struggle to articulate their feelings. My favorite MMC ever was Miles from Funny Story because he's just like me fr. I'm bi, so m/m books would work too. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations ☺️

2

u/de_pizan23 1d ago

{Stripped by KM Neuhold} - CR m/m, one MC is plus sized and kind of a frumpy nerdy professor type, the other is a short trans man in construction, so the first thinks the other will never be interested

{Love at Knockdown series by Skye Kilaen} - CR, m/f, mmf and f/f. The MMCs in books .5, 2 and 3 are all fairly average height or looks (the one in book .5 is shorter than the FMC, I think by several inches? but it's been a while since I read it).

All the MMCs in Marie Lipscomb/ML Eliza's books are plus sized. In her Vixens Rock series, the 2nd book has a short king MMC.

1

u/AnxietySnack 1d ago

{Role Playing by Cathy Yardley} - MF, contemporary. I'm not sure he's exactly frumpy, but he doesn't totally have everything together either. He's a 50-year-old nurse with a dad bod who is taking a break from his career to care for his mother. He meets the FMC playing an online video game. CWs for biphobia (side characters towards MMC), outing, and emotional abuse.

If you're open to monster romance:

{Berries and Greed by Lily Mayne} - MF, fantasy. The MMC is tall and muscular, but he's also an anxious, lonely stoner with a habit of buying ridiculous products from infomercials. He has a somewhat successful jewelry-making business but prefers to spend most of his time lounging around his apartment in a onesie eating takeout and watching trash TV. He's definitely down bad for the FMC and spends some time panicking about it.

1

u/Cupcake_3948 1d ago

In {With Love From Cold World by Alicia Thompson} the MMC works at an amusement park of sorts. He's bi and isn't described as having an unrealistic, perfect body. Both characters have a hard time articulating their feelings!

1

u/katierose295 1d ago

{Morning Glory by Laveryl Spencer} it's a HR, but the MMC is a regular sort of gut trying to do right by his new family.

1

u/wheatsilog 1d ago

Hi! I’m looking for a book that portrays a nurse FMC and has like “idgaf” attitude (or even just a little) like Aly Cappelucci in {Lights Out by Navessa Allen}

hopefully with some spice like lights out too haha thank you!

This isn't really simple or quick, but they wouldn't allow it as a post. I'm looking for a sweet/gentle FMC and masculine/dominant MMC but NOT broody or dark or stoic. I have a lot of boxes to tick off so hopefully someone will read all this and have a recommendation lol

I'd like to read something where the fmc is extremely sweet, pure, gentle, nurturing, quiet, not at all sassy or argumentative or headstrong. And preferably she is innocent but not stupid or overly naive, like I'm not looking for someone who doesn't know what sex is, just a fmc that is very soft and kind and good natured. If she was has a traumatic past and the mmc is the first person she fully trusts that would be a bonus. I'd like the mmc to be very masculine, protective, tells her what to do, but not in a dark, brooding, a-hole way. Not the classic grumpy, lone wolf, cold, "bad" MMC, I'd prefer if he is someone who has friends and skills and is passionate and funny and enthusiastic. He's pleasantly dominant not like rude and aggressive. Like where he knows she's vulnerable and he's careful with her at the same time that he really likes that she does whatever he says. I'd like it if the mmc teases the fmc a lot, but again, not in an a-hole way. I think a lot of books like this really miss the mark for me because the mmc comes off as mean spirited and like a jerk, when I'd prefer to read about a relationship where he obviously would protect her at all costs and even if he teases her or messes with her a little, he would never push it to a point of being hurtful, and where he equally compliments her and sweet talks her. And if they have differences in experience level, neither of them make a huge deal out of it, like for example if he knows she's inexperienced none of those plot lines where they break up over it or he refuses to sleep with her or something dumb like that. I'd also really like it if she cooks for him/takes care of him when he's sick, etc, gives him comfort. I prefer historical romances but I don't like regency. And no CEO, billionaire type romances please. I'm also not so into fantasy unless its really well written and solid. Thanks!!!
