Does anyone know of a furnished house, apartment or townhouse that would work for a May-May lease? I will be there in the fall for grad school.

Which area is best for a grad student? Pricing doesn’t matter all that much.

Struggling to Choose

Hey! I got admitted to the 2029 class, likely for the Dedman College + offered a spot to be in the University Honor Program.

I currently have about 66K covered that I won’t have to pay back for, but I don’t know where to get the other 20K-30K from that won’t require me overworking myself to pay for the next 4 years of my life. I tried asking the financial office for more but it just seems like I’m hitting a dead end every time as my parents won’t be helping much with costs + getting little to no financial aid help. I can technically ask to commute but that means my institution grant likely decreases and that means I won’t be able to afford the tuition at all.

Do yall have any other strategies to figure out how to pay or is it just better to go to a more local university and commute there as tuition is fully covered? I would appreciate any help because times sadly running out.

Looking to Sublease Lock-Out Bedroom Starting in May/June (~$1100/month Rent)

- House is located in a great area on Hialeah Drive, east side of I-75, close to White Rock Lake, Ridgewood Park, Ridgewood Trail, SoPac Trail walking/bike trail, and in a safe and nice neighborhood. The house is away from major roads so it's quiet and peaceful.

- 12-15 minute commute to SMU Campus, multiple paths (Lovers, Mockingbird, etc.).

- 1-2 minute commute to NW Highway and Abrams Road intersection, tons of shopping and food.

- The shutout comes with a private restroom with a walk-in shower, a walk-in closet, lots of bedroom space, tall ceiling with ceiling fan, small kitchen area with a mini-fridge, counterspace, cabinet/cupboards, and a sink. All separated from the main house, with double-door entry/exit exclusive to the lock-out. NON-FURNISHED (except it does come with the mini-fridge).

- Shared amenities in main house: Large kitchen with gas stove/fume hood, laundry (washer/dryer), storage, etc.

- Rent will be around $1100 a month, not including utilities (water, electricity, internet, gas, trash pickup, etc.).

- I am moving out of this room in May and am looking to sublease it immediately. Cleaning and preparing the room will be covered at my expense. Anyone will be considered!

Please let me know if you're interested in this room; feel free to comment or DM. I would be glad to provide more information.

Scholarship / Aid

Hello everyone,

I got $25,000 a year as a merit scholarship, but I was wondering if there was a way I could reach out to them and ask if they could give me more? If it is possible, would it be feasible?

Moving into upper division/dorms

Hey guys, so I transferred here this spring and have been commuting around an hour each day. It’s been hard to get acclimated in the smu culture, despite joining clubs and making a few friends, mainly just not being able to be around due to commuting and trying to avoid rush hour. I’m on a scholarship so I wouldn’t mind spending some money to move into the dorms/housing. Would this be a good move to meet more people and feel more acclimated at smu? Would also be great to just avoid that traffic everyday. I’m going to be a junior this fall. Thanks

Guys at SMU

I know this is an absolutely unserious post, but I recently toured SMU and there were A LOT of attractive guys with good manners like holding the door and saying please/thank you etc.

I know everyone is unique and stuff, but what has been your experience with dating at SMU? Are the guys usually open minded? Do they get married at like 19 like the guys at A&M? TLDR what’s the dating scene like 😂

Interested in applying to the Hillcrest Manor apartments off campus. Can someone please speak to the pros/cons of living there? The efficiency option is the one I am most interested in so I would really appreciate any insight.

SMU study abroad and options

What’s up, Really close to commiting to my backyard school (1 block away), but only thing stopping me is Boulder and Pepperdine.

Boulder is offering me a super good looking path with a study abroad journey to Italy for a semester. Amazing campus and I love Colorado.

Pepperdine has given me some scholarship making it just cheaper then SMU, crazy cool campus, and arguably better then SMU for some.

Then SMU.

Honestly, I really want to study abroad. I see myself doing it, and it will help me grow as a person, plus I travel a bunch and wanna more. Then of course price. SMU is easily the highest here.

What can I do with study abroad, and what do you guys think. Any advice?

Admitted to SMU but not Cox

Hey everyone, I’m a prospective student who was admitted to SMU but wasn’t DA to the Cox school of business. With an eventual goal of breaking into investment banking, would a double major with Economics (Financial Applications) + CS still open up the same doors. Would I still be able to join business clubs?

I would appreciate any insight!

smu compared to tcu

I was accepted to SMU and TCU to major in finance. I am torn between both since SMU seems to have a better business program but gets a reputation having very superficial students. I feel like TCU might be a better fit but doesn’t have as strong of a business program. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I don’t know anyone at either schools so don’t know much about the true culture there just the stereotypes surrounding them.

Accepted into smu but not cox, help!

I’m currently a prospective student and am pretty much set on going to SMU due to their great financial aid packages (provost+opportunity award), but I didn’t get into the Cox SoB. I applied as a Marketing major and got into FAU, UCSD, and ASU for Business/Marketing but probably won’t be able to afford them unless I appeal for more aid. My question is, is the process for transferring internally to Cox from another school difficult? What are the chances of me getting in? And is there an alternate, related major I could choose to go into my freshman year as? I read some of the posts on here and so far I’ve read that there was a 1-3% chance of transferring internally so I’m not sure where to go from here.

Any advice and thoughts are appreciated, thank you!
