Registered for the SAT again!

I took the SAT last March and was determined to stop everything about SAT ever again. However, I only got 1380, which is not bad, nor good enough. The standards in the top University in my country are really high because most students don’t really use SAT here. I got a month left, is there any tip that get me to a 1500+? Or is it even possible at all?

P/s: i have undiagnosed ADHD and my family refuses to let me use meds, if you have any tips on this pls share ;-;

Oof! Sorry your parents aren’t more supportive. If you truly have ADHD you’d likely qualify for 1.5x or 2x extra time on your tests — SAT, ACT, AP plus at school and college too for regular assignments and assessments. People with ADHD have real trouble focusing and are easily distracted, testing accommodations allow for testing in smaller group settings which help reduce distractions. This is meant to help level the playing field. By refusing to acknowledge a potential ADHD dx, they are actually keeping you from reaching your full potential. If they won’t help, start by helping yourself. Look up the non-medication ways to help thrive with ADHD. Use ChatGBT or Grok to help. Research the latest medical findings at Google Scholar. One simple test to know if someone is truly ADHD is that stimulant medication actually slows down and focuses an ADHD brain, but taken by someone w/o true ADHD, ends up hyping them up and reduces focus, making them jittery etc. Perhaps if you approach your parent with peer reviewed research studies about ADHD and the increases, that would help them understand. Talk to your pediatrician too.

The most thing to understand is that ADHD and ADD are NOT mental disorders, they are mental differences. A brain that processes information differently than then majority is NOT disabled, just different. Up until very recently studies indicated that rates of true ADHD were only at ~5-10% of the population. However there has been a significant uptick recently of people with ADHD and autism too (another brain difference), many factors including environmental toxin exposure and infections like Covid are thought to be fueling these increases.

Talk to your pediatrician and school learning specialist about options for medical insurance covered testing options. I’ve never paid more than a $30 copay for full neuro-psychological testing through a medical institution. Through the school system it is free.

it varies ALOT from person to person, what are you getting on practice tests if you have done any?

I got 710 Math and 640 at RW, normally my RW is really good on bluebooks, 700+ or so but…yeah

sometimes you do get a much lower score in the actual test, but if you are getting 700+ then hopefully you are good at it, I think it would be easier to boost your math rn I Def think it's possible to do in a month, would suggest to keep doing questions from question bank too

how are you at desmos?

It’s just a bit sad bc i got 670 RW in the 8/3 test and 640 in the retake one. My desmos is neat, my only problems are solving and data analysis:( Thanks for the help and suggestions!

I might have undiagnosed ADHD too but idk

the stress of giving the test helped, also sleeping well

also you can develop a skill to like not actually read most of the things in the RW section, you can recognize patterns and only read parts of it, even then I struggled often with rereading the same thing over and over again becausd I kept forgetting but learning the patterns and reading quickly in generally helped

if you're in the ~700+ region for math, you could probably boost it by getting used to using vieta's, the quadratic formula/determinant, etc. this ultimately depends on your score breakdown, however. I saw in another comment in this thread that you scored lower in data analysis; consider brushing up on statistics principles.

for reading, the best way to improve your RW score is to get all your grammar principles down. since you have ADHD, try using the highlight function--it'll help you avoid careless errors/help you focus. (it's too bad they don't have it in the math section)

Thank you! I tried all of these things but no apparent results so far:(
