Also: Native English speaking people tend to SUCK. This is something i had to get over. Essentially my body/brain assumes everyone is going to be like “why can’t you just speak Spanish PROPERLY” like English people tend to do.

Nope! They love that you try and 95% of the time will help. You can do it!

If it makes you feel better, I think most monolingual people are like that. They don't realise the struggles of speaking a different language and make do with your broken grammar. Once you understand how it feels, you shut your mouth and let people try their best, because oh boy...we are lol.

This. I'm chicano and my own family as well as my Colombian suegros get so excited when I speak Spanish with them, even though I'm no where near fluent. Most people are super encouraging and the only people who've ever given me a hard time about my (lack of) fluency are anglo Americans.
