Mod Post MOD ANNOUNCEMENT: The current state of Spider-Man comics

It's no lie. The current state of Spidey comics is pretty abysmal. Zeb Wells run was a disaster with meandering plots, bad ragebait, and relied on variant covers only for sales. And with comments from current editorial like Brevoort, it's clear it's not gonna change soon even with Hickman's Ultimate run doing wonders. And we all know how many posts here are filled with the same old about how bad it all is......

So we the mods have a question for you.

Do you want all discussion of the current Spider-Man comics banned on this subreddit. No Discussion Threads, no posts about it, no nothing.

Now obviously, this is no small matter and the fact that there are good runs currently as well such as the aforementioned Ultimate Spider-Man and Cody Zigler's Miles Morales run. So we'll have a poll up until next Tuesday to let people vote on it. There are currently three options:

  • Yes, ban all discussion/posts about ALL new comics to send a message to Marvel about ASM.
  • Yes, but only discussion about the mainline ASM run. Leave USM and other runs alone.
  • No, don't ban any discussion or posts about any Spider-Man run.

Poll will be in the comments, thank you.

Also, writer Peter David (creator of such characters like Miguel O'Hara) has recently been rejected for Medicaid. His GoFundMe can be found here for donations to help him and his family during these times: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-peter-david

Discussion Why does Peter B. Parker shove 2 whole fingers in his mouth while eating a burger?

I get that he was super broke and famished right before Miles bought the burger, but shoving almost your entire finger/s into your mouth to insert the burger inside hardly seems necessary

Unless the piece is really big, I'm pretty sure your finger/s can push a (portion of a) burger into your mouth without the fingers ending up inside your mouth as well

No wonder it was easy for people to edit a gun into his hands for a meme, which is shown in the 2nd pic lol

Marvel Comics Exec Editor Says Peter And MJ’s Marriage Should Have No Bearing On Fan Investment Because “Things Change In The World Of Spider-Man All The Time”....

You allowed them to have oneof the longest comic marrages, growing past substance dependency, PTSD, codependency and mis-prioritizing then you had Mephisto build it up to be something more desirable than silver surfer's soul and then baited us for years that it could return.

Don't paint yourself into a corner and then complain when we point out your stuck. Either work back or break the wall.

It's only a 63 year fandom. Why would we be invested?

Movies Alan Ritchson as Eddie Brock/Venom in the MCU

I was playing Marvel Rivals and I play as Venom and I had just finished watching Reacher a few days ago. I know Sony already made the Venom movies and that they are done and over with. Personally I don’t think Marvel or Disney would cast him as Eddie but Alan Ritchson looks more like Eddie Brock then Tom Hardy does he is comic book accurate and because Alan is already a bigger actor. I imagine it would be a lot easier to use SOME practical affects to make the venom suit. I can’t be the only one who sees this right?

(SATIRE) For a superhero that supposedly struggles with money, I think Spidey’s still the solo superhero with the most variant looks. Probably helps to somewhat explain the money issues 😅

Whatever you think of Andrew Garfield as Spidey, his wisecracking/quick wit in the suit is awesome and it’s kind of surprising other live-action versions haven’t focused on this as heavily (even though Tom is funny in his naïveté and youthful style). What do you think of this style of Spidey humor?

Hi.

Hope you’re all doing well, webheads!

I won’t go into which is better Spider-Man/Peter Parker or whatever, but after recently rewatching all the movies, it’s still (pardon the pun) amazing that this style of humor is only in Garfield’s iteration. But each of Tobey, Andrew and Tom have their own unique styles and that’s awesome too.

But I guess I’ve always associated this style of banter’y and sarcastic humor Garfield’s version has as one of the core elements of the character. But I also like the humor in Tom’s movies and it works for his Peter/Spider-Man. Tobey’e didn’t really do this kind of humor and SM1 & 2 are fantastic movies.

What are your thoughts on Spider-Man having this kind of confident, quick-witted humor and is it essential to the character or can you do without it, or just tone it down a little from the humor in the Amazing Spider-Man movies?

Comics Hot Take: I feel that with all of the development and the send-off he got in Superior Spider-Man, they should’ve let Otto Octavius stay dead and have the Superior Octopus be a new, permanent character.

Aside from the obvious preservation of Otto Octavius’ character growth and final act of selflessness, there’s also the fact that a new Doc Ock (maybe Elliot Tollivar) means we’d hopefully get to see this incredible costume on a more permanent basis (seriously, why did they get rid of this design, it’s actually incredible?).
