Common Question: How hard is it to transfer from X major to Y major?

Answer: If it is within the same school, it is super easy, just talk to your academic advisor before school starts. If you wish to transfer to another school e.g. Dornsife to Marshall, you need to contact admissions to attempt the transfer before matriculation*. You can also seek help once you know who your academic advisor is or attempt it on admitted students day or orientation day. Once you matriculate, you can attempt an internal-transfer but it involves going through the current student transfer process, see the specific internal transfer page from each school's website.

Common Question: Is there an admitted student facebook group/discord/telegram etc?

Answer: Usually someone sets a facebook group and groupme up around the time the main batch of students are admitted in April. Check facebook to see if there is one already or connect to one of the USC discord servers (linkedin on sidebar) to chat with admitted and upper-class Trojans.

*Viterbi does not allow you to switch into engineering before enrolling at USC. Please read links below related to the school you're interested in.

Any "Is my schedule too hard?" "How is my schedule" etc type posts belong in this thread.

Discussion Common Misconceptions about USC!!!

As someone who went to USC for Undergrad AND Grad School let me debunk some common misconceptions:

1) The Campus is Smoggy -Simply not true!!! We’ve had numerous air quality tests done and the USC air is perfectly fine (in fact better than average).

2) The Rich Kids only hang out with each other -Where did this stereotype come from?? It is simply wrong.

3) USC is all white. -USC is one of the most diverse college communities in America.

Photo Missing Cat @ USC. Magnolia Ave

His name is Milo, a 1 year old cat.

He is the sweetest and loving cat that got out through a window earlier this morning. He was last seen at 9am and usually loves to explore the back yard and neighborhood ally’s, but is not in either of those locations.

We are on magnolia near the corner of 27th street.

He is food motivated and loves treats. He’s scared when cars or scooters go by and does not like to be chased. He will run. But if you are close to him and soft / at his level crouched down he may come over to you.

He does not bite, or scratch you, and is fully vaccinated. If you see him grabbing him by the back scruff usually would get him to allow you to pick him up. If you hold him really close to you and make him feel safe, he won’t try to jump from your arms. The back of his tail is slightly bent but does not hurt him as he was born with it.

He is microchipped and registered to me. Please contact me here if you find him.

Please help me find him he’s my world and his older cat brother misses him.

Question Tips for incoming grad students?

I'll be joining the Health Sciences Campus this fall as a PhD student and wanted to see what I should know as a grad student to make the best out of it. Never been to main campus either but I'm excited to get to know this side of LA. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I am a recent Viterbi Freshman Spring admit. Is there any way to improve my chances of getting shifted to the Fall? I have already committed and deposited the 300 dollar enrollment fee. I am willing to do anything.

I left it with the 1st floor desk, please tell them the room # you left the item or items at. You should be able to at least describe the items.

Hope you see this and ask the desk instead of thinking it’s lost!

Academic Will it be super challenging to double major in Journalism and Poli Sci on the pre-law track at USC?

So I had a meeting with my advisor and she said I am able to add a journalism major to my poli sci major rn and graduate on time. I just wanted to check if this will be realistic as i don’t want to make my workload too hard and potentially impact my GPA for law school.

Will it be difficult to major in both? Any idea on how hard journalism is at USC? any advice in general is appreciated ty!

Academic CSBA IB recruiting?

hi guys! i’m so excited to be going to usc for csba this fall, and i just had a few questions about the major and the recruiting process

  1. some of my friends at usc told me that it’s extremely hard to join the ib/consulting clubs as a non-marshall major. is it worth it to switch to marshall for a better chance at getting in?

  2. does anyone in csba know if we get the same recruiting as marshall students since we’re partially business? and if we’re limited to viterbi recruiting is it still good for ib?

  3. is the process to transfer from csba to marshall difficult? and is it more worth it to do a business major with a cs minor instead of csba?

thank you in advance!

Question Will USC accept more appeals this year?

Hey yall! I submitted my appeal for USC a few days ago and I was just wondering this - will USC accept more appeals this year? Espically with the increase in tuition (100k to be exact) and uncertainties around FAFSA (or if USC would even give a lot of aid) I am wondering if that means they will accept more appeals this year.

Or did they anticipate this and accept more people this year which would make the number of appeals they accept the same?

I had a extenuating circumstance so I explained that in my appeal and how i improved both in my personal life and in academics so I really hope they accept my appeal

Also would needing aid be a factor in accepting appeals? I am fortunate to be in a situation where my family can comfortably pay the tuition, if that matters just was wondering!

Question Admitted to USC MSW Online Program

Hi everyone,

So I was recently admitted to the MSW online program and was really excited at first considering I’ve had a long journey from starting college till now applying for grad school. I applied to the MSW program at USC thinking I wouldn’t get in cause … obviously USC. To my surprise I was and again was really excited and emotional seeing that I got in, but having done some google searching and reading up on some things. I’m starting to have second thoughts about the program and the school itself to be honest. I mean first of all the tuition and second the lawsuit with MSW online program. Just reading all the articles it honestly is making me doubt going to the university but also myself. After reading the articles and how they went about admitting students who were “unqualified” makes me feel like I wasn’t admitted based off of my experience, academic achievements and my passion for social work.

My intent to enroll deadline is coming up in 4 days (April 9th), and I just want to hear form any current students of the MSW program (online preferably, but in-person as well) you’re thoughts on the program and if it really is worth it. As a program in general is it good? Bad? Worth it?

Thank you so much! Hope to hear from anyone!

Admissions Submitted I-20 without waiting for deferral decision

I have a summer 2025 offer from USC. 20 days back I paid the commitment deposit and submitted for a deferral request to Fall 2025.

There has been no reply yet and I didn't want to lose my summer chance, so I applied for my I-20 today. Will this now affect my chance to defer? Anyone who was in the same situation before? I don't even have enough time for summer now and everything is very uncertain :(

Academic Enquiry on groups (whatsapp, discord, etc)

Hello Everyone,

I got into USC for a masters program. Would anybody be so kind as to share any group links I can join? Whatever platform, as long as it's legal lol.

Any and all links for incoming students, it need not be specific to my situation.

My situation: - Indian international student to USC. - MS CS in AI.

I applied myself and I was able to do that by referencing multiple sources, so I was hoping to join discussions on this.

Many things like loans, visa, housing, etc are pending so got to start somewhere.

If visa gets sorted, I would more less be privileged to call myself a trojan lol.

Question Usc net id activation

Is it true that it tales 2 weeks for my usc net id to be created after submitting my enrollment deposit?

I was having some trouble activating it so I called the support number, and they said it takes 2 weeks. But I couldn’t find any info on it online, while USC’s website literally says activate it 1-2 days after you commit. Was my support caller wrong? Or does it actually take 2 weeks?

Question USC Sunday, April 13, 2025Open House

Hi all, I was registrating my guests for upcoming USC Open House on Sunday, April 13, 2025. 1. Can I still attend if I am a spring admit? 2. For the guests, do I have to include my 5 year sister, and 7 month old brother? I ask this because it asks for their emails, so should I just add one of my alt emails or not include them at all?
