EMBROIDERY First visible mend

I got a tear on my backpack that I’ve had since I was a sophomore in high school. I’ve been a long time lurker on here so I decided to try and make something fun. I really like how it turned out, but I’ll admit there’s a lot of room for improvement. Any recommendations are welcome. :)

It’s so precious!!! Can I ask what type of thread you use? I’ve been wanting to try this but don’t know what type of thread to start with! I love the thickness of the one you used :)

To be honest, I just bought some of the cheapest 6-strand embroidery thread Amazon had to offer. I’m a college student so the budget is tight. I think the one I got was from a brand called Mr. Pen? It has a mustache on the logo. It shouldn’t be more than $10 on Amazon I think
