Admitting he was wrong counts for something, though.

u/Low_Chance 1d ago

I'll definitely give some respect for that even if it comes with a humblebrag

The art of the deal

27

u/titanofold 1d ago

A better book: The Art of Negotiating the Best Deal. (https://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/negotiating-the-best-deal)

The best deal is the one where everyone still wants to work with you after the deal is done. Not necessarily that everyone gets everything they want, but they're still willing to develop the relationship.

9

u/DAHFreedom 1d ago

Read “Getting to Yes” for similar concepts

7

u/Additional-Tap8907 1d ago

Yeah Trump’s book is about how to burnish your ego and feel like you’re winning whether or not you actually are. A better metric is how to establish long term mutually beneficial relationships with others so that you create an entire self sustaining ecosystem around you. Trump knows nothing about that.

3

u/N3rdScool 1d ago

He knows all about it, he's just loyal to the people who saved him from bankruptcy... again.

It's wild to me that anyone like that could be president.

3

u/Additional-Tap8907 1d ago

He creates a self sustaining swamp of corruption and lies

3

u/Freethecrafts 1d ago

The best deal is where both sides have vested interests and want whatever venture to succeed.

3

u/Diligent-Phrase436 1d ago

Trump is lecturing us on The Art of Creating a Cult, much more powerful than any deal, best or not.

u/_Answer_42 1d ago

Drop the "the"

1

u/Blubasur 1d ago

Nah, not the book I care to get the title right of.

18

u/mak484 1d ago

Nah. Trump is not different, the people backing him are just way more organized. They were not subtle about any of this. Anyone who believed he wouldn't do the things he and his people literally said they wanted to do, is willfully ignorant. People like this are not trustworthy. All it will take is a slightly better lie to get them to turn on us again. Admitting you were wrong about something so obvious doesn't deserve praise.

11

u/ScrotallyBoobular 1d ago

Trump 1.0 was forced into surrounding himself with more typical NeoLib Republicans who kept their same usual trajectory of just mildly fucking Americans and the budget without making too much of a splash.

Trump 2.0 is embracing the more radicals who openly want to tear America down and rebuild it into a white nationalist Oligarchy.

4

u/DukeOfGeek 1d ago

I don't think Moscow cares for it to be rebuilt. You are right about the first part though.

1

u/Aaronsknee 1d ago

Tariffs are bad because every other country has 0% Tariffs on US goods.

3

u/thewhizzle 1d ago

Focused tariffs have a purpose. Blanket tariffs are stupid.

What wealthy country has blanket tariffs?

1

u/Dunder_Chief1 1d ago

An alternative argument i have heard is that the evangelical Christian groups are championing this because they think destabilizing America will bring about Armageddon, and as such will bring about the 2nd coming of Christ.

You know, because playing chicken with God works out so well historically ( if you believe the Bible they say they follow, but have never read).

In addition, that adds clarity as to why there is such support for Israel.

The prevailing belief is that Jerusalem will be the new kingdom, so protecting that by any monstrous means necessary is actually being supportive of God, and not in any way against Jesus' teachings.

1

u/ChewingOurTonguesOff 1d ago

So they vote for the anti-christ? I doubt if their god is real he will reward them for that.

1

u/viciouspandas 22h ago

Most of the Evangelicals are not that into the weeds of their religion. When interviewed, most understood Trump wasn't really religious, and they weren't saying they wanted Armageddon. The most common answer of why they voted for him is because they felt he was protecting them. Not that any of that statement is true, but that they think he is protecting them and they think they are being persecuted.

It's pretty easy to spin geopolitical interests to the typical voter without some deeper religious lore. America largely supports Israel because we have since the Cold War, and Democrats in general also support Israel. Only on the fringes do we see the opposite because the farther left supports Palestine for leftist reasons, while parts of the extreme right supports Palestine because they hate Jews more than they hate Arabs. Seeing blue haired liberal college students protesting for Palestine probably hardens the typical Evangelical's support for Israel more than than some obscure reason of Jerusalem becoming the New Kingdom. It's just "Woke student protesting for Palestine. Woke = bad. Israel must be good".

1

u/QubitEncoder 1d ago

Homelander ahh

14

u/mortgagepants 1d ago

i'm just a fairly stupid partisan on the left so i don't get it.

23

u/VirtualBeyond6116 1d ago

Yeah, he's not admitting we were right by the way. He's just saying trump 2.0 is different,,, but he couldn't figure it out ahead of time,,, but he's also a "man of honor".

8

u/Diligent-Phrase436 1d ago

And trump 2.0 is like a revamped version of Trump? If anything is just Trump knowing full well that he either dies in office or stays in office until dying. Democracy is not longer an option for him.

1

u/Farranor 1d ago

I think it means Trump's second term compared to his first.

3

u/Halo_cT 1d ago

It's more like "TRUMP CHANGED! I WAS RIGHT THEN BUT NOW HE'S DIFFERENT"

which isn't true at all. He's always been a moron. Now he just doesnt have anyone telling him no like he did the first time.

2

u/Farranor 1d ago

A quick web search reveals that "Trump 2.0" refers specifically to his second term, not to a new and different version of Trump or changes in his behavior. Trump 2.0 could've turned out much the same as Trump 1.0, but people like OOP are now learning that it is not.

3

u/Halo_cT 1d ago

fair enough. These folks have a tendency to dodge accountability so that's how it seemed. Thanks for the info.

1

u/CustomMerkins4u 1d ago

And Trump 2.0 is no different. It's just this time it's hurting his pocketbook instead of the middle class's pocketbook.

1

u/body_by_art 1d ago

I mean it is different because term 1:

He was worried about re-election.

The supreme court hadn't ruled on presidential immunity, so now he has no real consequences.

He had no experience in the government and its processes.

2

u/Professional_Bed_87 1d ago

I guess it was just by dumb luck that all of the fairly stupid lefties were right on this one. Who woulda thought?

1

u/Beaconxdr789 1d ago

Make it a Videogame Dunkey hat and you've got a deal

1

u/OtteryBonkers 1d ago

"I" just seems wrong here, although it is entirely correct

1

u/PenaltyElectronic318 1d ago

I want a donkey hat.

1

u/__T0MMY__ 1d ago

Can I be both wrong and get a donkey hat because they're dope? He asked respectfully.

1

u/GarlicThread 1d ago

We all have a little donkey in us ❤️

1

u/TotalChaosRush 1d ago

Inquiry, do i have to actually be wrong to get a hat?

Additional inquiry, can I have multiple hats?

1

u/FamiliarAnt4043 1d ago

At this point, I'll wear the dunce hat and happily parade around the city if it will make the BS stop....bit it won't.

1

u/AquaBits 1d ago

Steam would mark this as a potential scam lol

52

u/Licensed2Pill 1d ago

It’s almost like if there wasn’t a record of his previous tweet, he wouldn’t admit being wrong at all.

28

u/CompetitiveGood2601 1d ago

ya, 2.4 million views, it wasn't going away! Its interesting he's addressing it publicly they must be getting a lot of calls over at geiger, trying to calm some nerves maybe!

7

u/noonegive 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nerves are a librul hoax, like measles or "consent".

(Am I doing this right? I'm new to the grift;)

Fuck, I forgot to use ALL CAPS!!! AND COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF EXCLAYMATION POINTS!!! AND NOT TO USE THEM FAIRY COLLEGE WORDS LIKE COPIOUS!!!!

2

u/Mystic_Viola 1d ago

Doing great. Russia will give you a podcast in no time!

2

u/garden_speech 1d ago

Lots of people just delete tweets or don't talk about it. I don't think this is fair.

1

u/Licensed2Pill 1d ago

I’m not giving the guy any points for stating a fact. Trump said he’d do a 20% universal tariff during his campaign, and this guy called liberals stupid for believing it. Now, he gets up to speed about half a year later, calls himself a man of honor, doesn’t apologize for his mistake, and I’m supposed to say that’s ok?

Fuck that noise.

1

u/garden_speech 1d ago

None of that has anything to do with what I said. I'm just responding to your comment claiming he wouldn't admit to being wrong if there wasn't a "record"

1

u/Licensed2Pill 1d ago

I thought we were talking about fairness. If not, then carry on.

1

u/garden_speech 1d ago

Right... I said it's not fair... To say he wouldn't admit to being wrong without a record... Because the other option still existed (just ignore it / delete it). Someone still should get credit for choosing to admit to being wrong

1

u/Licensed2Pill 1d ago

Normally, I’d agree with your last sentence, but I’m not giving any of these people (people who dismissed what Trump said he will do as an exaggeration, joke or hoax—and insulted anyone who believed them) any credit. Feel free to give them any credit you think they deserve.

1

u/garden_speech 23h ago

So there's ZERO difference between a person who says it won't happen and then admits they were wrong, versus a person who just downright refuses to admit they were wrong about it? Who just deletes the tweet and pretends it didn't happen? Who tries to twist it into still being true? The one who admits they're wrong gets ZERO credit for that?

1

u/Licensed2Pill 23h ago

I’m not sure why you’re so pressed that I won’t give him any credit. I already told you that I’d agree with you normally, just not in this situation.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/mortgagepants 1d ago

usually when you're wrong like this and you know the reason you might apologize.

2

u/Licensed2Pill 1d ago

Someone should tell him that. Unless his apology was provided on another tweet, cause it’s certainly not on this one.

1

u/provocative_bear 1d ago

That is no deterrent to Elon Musk or plenty of others.

1

u/9520x 1d ago

Yep, and this is far from an apology. He said the left was stupid ... but he is the stupid one.

The right-wing grifters need to defect en masse.

1

u/SkyOk3410 1d ago

They already have massive defects 🤷

1

u/grumpsaboy 1d ago

To be fair though he could have just said nothing which would still have less attention put on than this

1

u/DreadLindwyrm 1d ago

He wasn't *wrong*... The tariffs weren't blanket 20% after all. Much higher in some places, and *only* 10% in some.

Plus tariffs on an island primarily inhabited by penguins.

11

u/carlitospig 1d ago

I mean, will it impact his future voting? No? Then I will remain in the ‘fuck him’ camp.

8

u/Playful-Abroad-2654 1d ago

He was debating it, that’s why he had to say it out loud. Part of him wanted to delete it, but then he had to remind himself of who he was and wants to be. I don’t think this is about humble bragging, I think this is about fighting the natural instinct to save face

12

u/HBODHookerBagOfDicks 1d ago

It’s not a humblebrag though. It’s just more projection, calling everyone who said he would do this (literally EVERYONE outside the cult) stupid.

2

u/minor_correction 1d ago

The brag is "look at me I am a man of honor."

As others pointed out, deleting it really isn't an option because it's been memed so much. The honor is pretend - he'd delete it if he could.

His post unintentionally admits he thought about deleting.

1

u/JoeyZasaa 1d ago

His next tweet:

I am a man who will fight for your honor
I'll be the hero you're dreaming of
We'll live forever knowing together
That we did it all for the glory of love

1

u/Cautious_Parsley_898 1d ago

You do not get to decide what other people would do.

6

u/IRateRockbusters 1d ago

Honestly, I hate the way that some guys can only admit to shortcomings by twisting it into a kind of meta self-compliment. I knew a guy who would refer to cheating on his spouse by saying “I’m a big enough man to admit that I made a mistake.”

I always thought there was something deeply pathetic about how he could only possibly acknowledge betraying his wife if he could transform it into an opportunity to mention how honest and self-knowledgeable he was. Embarrassing.

2

u/Applepoisoneer 1d ago

I'd agree. In a world where a Politician will say one thing on live TV or in a tweet, and literally the next day, scream about how they didn't say that; the ability to admit he said something that was wrong, AND HE LEARNED FROM IT is huge. I sincerely hope more people follow this example. Even if I don't necessarily agree with him on anything else.

1

u/Petrichordates 1d ago

I mean that's normal for MAGA politicians, not normal in general. It's not like a democrat would get away with that.

2

u/Petrichordates 1d ago

He tries to rationalize it even though it was clear to anyone paying attention that he wasn't going to be Trump 1.0.

2

u/rainman943 1d ago

Why? The trump supporters premise is that he was wrong about trump honoring his word, ppl who support trump don't even believe him.

It's a damning indictment, he was wrong about trump being honest, with his support for trump built on the premise that Trump's just lying to the rest of us.

2

u/ParkerGuitarGuy 1d ago

I won't. These people had every opportunity to see his shit for what it is. Disrespect is an earned sentiment. I won't withhold from such effort.

1

u/AngryBird-svar 1d ago

Dude can be a Maoist Tankie or the most inbred MAGA hillbilly, but if someone’s got the growth to realize that they were wrong before, and admitting it, its golden in my book.

Should be the standard for adults in anything beyond politics, but unfortunately its become an exception.

1

u/No_Repair_782 1d ago

He’s now defending tariffs like a good maga cult member.

1

u/Sensitive-Screen-209 1d ago

How else are you supposed to admit guilt? How is this humblebrag?

1

u/jawsome_man 1d ago

I’ll give him props too because I really think we should have more of a culture of this thing in the USA. Admit it when you were wrong and learn from your mistakes.

1

u/coffee-x-tea 1d ago

It’s crazy the proportion of people who would rather chose to “save face” by denying, deflecting, or doubling down and ironically make themselves look worse than open themselves up to vulnerability and admit they’re wrong (which ironically would save more face).

So I agree, even if humble brag, the world’s lacking so much of people who own up to mistakes.
