Exactly. If he said "In this case, I was the stupid partisan", MAYBE I would have a couple ounces of respect. That'll never happen though. This doesn't mean shit.
"Different", not worse. He can't even admit that it's a bad idea. He says it like he's just not figured out Trumps amazing 4d chess move. He's waiting for the moment he can reply to this tweet with "Aha! It was all according to plan. Checkmate, stupid leftists".
I’m conflicted on people using the term Trump 2.0. Yes, he is certainly even worse this time around, but he was already so blatantly vile that describing him as “very different” now just seems like a cop out to not admit they supported (and are still mostly supporting) a fascist
Except all the people on the left that repeatedly warned exactly this would happen. We knew Trump 2.0 was different: the difference is all the yes men he's surrounded with and we've been sounding the alarm this whole time
Exactly, I know we're supposed to be treating Trump supporters with all of this sweet wonderful kindness and welcoming them back into the fold if they realize they've made a mistake but I am absolutely not going to be fucking doing that. Every last one of them can go fuck themselves.
That would imply that he also thought it would actually happen. The spirit of the original tweet is "this is so ridiculous, no one believes this will really happen." Then it happened and that's what he was wrong about, partisan or not. It's the "fairly stupid partisans" he was making fun of who were right along.
The few times I have looked at the conservative subreddit to see what they are posting, I noticed they are always name calling anyone they perceive as left wing - “libtards”, “stupid liberals” “idiot left wingers” etc. Its sad
I pop in every now and then when I need a laugh. Recently there was a post about how it was time to "be the bigger people and bridge the gap with the libtards". Can't make this shit up
It’s sad but kinda funny. There’s a talk radio host that sucks off Trump and when he does his ads for his show it’s literally “I call these people idiots and morons and name call them cuz I’m real”. Literally directly after his show ended a news segment hit talking about how insults and name calling hatred have gone up massively in the last year or two. Ironic to have that news but after the show where the guy advertises that’s exactly what he does with his show where
So you're saying you're just as blind as they are then? Both sides have horrid people who treat others like shit and act as if their side does no wrong. BOTH SIDES DO IT.
Jesus Christ, open your eyes, neither party gives a shit about anyone. All they care about it self gain.
I mean, even if they do it in one area to a greater extent does not mean the left is some pure hearted prince. The general online left is straight up vicious.
Oh for sure, I despise tankies. But there is no “left” in the United States that holds power. The United States is controlled in all 3 branches of government and has the Supreme Court controlled by Christian nationalists. You can’t compare some blue haired tankie on Twitter to the power that the right has.
Yeah, but I still think it's a problem worth addressing. The left didn't lose the US election because people decided to switch over to trump, his support was the same amount, they lost because people who had previously voted left or might have voted left didn't vote at all. Part of that imo is because the left's purity tests, demonisation, toxic viciousness etc which is caustic to coalition building and depresses the vote, especially amongst people with mixed views.
It’s because that’s Trump’s MO. Sleepy Joe, Crooked Hillary, Lyin’ Ted, etc.
He is incapable of mentioning anyone that’s remotely against him without giving them some dumb shit nickname. This has been the norm now for like a fucking decade.
Wasn't the left calling Trump literally a giant orange?
I'm on neither side, nor a centrist. So don't come at me with that in mind. But both sides have horrible people doing similar shit, using their ideals as a scapegoat to do so. It's not inherent to Trump or people following him.
This “both sides” shit MAY have been applicable in his first term, but how his platform is literally built on discrimination and hate speech. You can’t be a trump supporter and not be inherently vile. Your attempt to appear un-biased does not make you seem as intelligent as you think it does.
I get it, you’re trying to seem enlightened by appearing above it all, but your comment is flippant and detached from reality. Pretending democracy and fascism are equally bad isn’t wisdom. When one side is openly pushing authoritarian, discriminatory policies, it isn’t neutrality to choose neither, it’s opting out of responsibility, and pretending you’re profound for not acknowledging it doesn’t paint you in any sort of good light. You’re not standing above political discourse, you’re just stepping aside so others can get hurt.
They learned from their daddy. Disparage and insult the opposition, turn any debate into a dissing match. You'll never need to address any issues in a serious way.
In most countries what they consider liberals or left wing aren’t even liberal or left wing. They seem convinced that the other side is just as radical left as they are radical right and it’s bizarre.
I am “radical” left. By which I mean that I support equal rights, free healthcare, and free education for everyone. I don’t care if they double my taxes to do it, or if I never use the healthcare/education for the rest of my life. Oh but of course they think that that makes me as crazy as the facists…
I mean I think this admin is a fucking joke but that is rampant everywhere. Trump has little hands, he shits his diaper, Trump voters are morons etc etc. that’s just the internet.
I was surprised when I looked recently and many people their seem to be unhappy about the whole Canada as a 51st state thing, the most recent tariffs, and the comments about a 3rd term. Most still say that this is better than Kamala would have been, which is cognitive dissonance at its very finest, but seeing people in r/conservative actually criticizing King Cheeto did give me the slightest glimmer of hope that some of the republican base may be starting to turn on him.
I try to listen to Fox News from time to time and that's pretty much 90% of their programs. Making fun of the Left and every once in a while they talk about what Republicans supposedly do well, but every time they say what Republicans do they are only talking about what they say and never call out when what they say does not match what they do.
Judging from reddit, that's just how Americans in general talk to and about each other - just to turn around and point out the splinter in their brother's eye.
most of the time, they just call us traitors. its honestly kindness that they call us libtards. there is almost affection behind it. what most really feel about us is they're ready to put bullets in our heads and looking forward to our protests.
Yeah, half the articles on there is all just circlejerk culture war shit to make them feel good. I get the distinct impression that it’s basically 90% gen z edgelords in there
That goes way back. This is from a section of the most recent biography about Reagan:
The gibe [Reagan] aimed at liberals--"It isn't so much that Liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so much that isn't so"--described him perfectly.
This was after a section where the author pointed out the many quotes that Reagan would often repeat in speeches. The problem was, all of the quotes were pure fiction. Yet Reagan seemed to believe them (or, at the very least, didn't care whether the quotes were real or not).
And it wasn't just those quotes. A lot of the assertions he made were completely false as well. Yet he seemed to believe them with absolute conviction.
This is another line just before the passage I quoted:
Reagan had a disturbingly cavalier attitude toward factual accuracy that, arguably, helped to inure the Republican Party to "fake news."
Much of what Trump is doing and how he's doing it can be directly connected to what Reagan and similarly minded conservatives were up to way back in the 60s.
Both liberals and leftists tend to support desegregation and lgbt rights though, which to a right winger makes them identical. This blinds them to any of the economic differences between liberals and leftists, but usefully for the rich it also blinds them to their own economic common ground with leftists.
Like if you actually talk to farmers and rural people (true rural, not suburbanites wearing overalls), if you get to talking about specific economic topics which they havent been spoonfed a buzzword about, you'll notice their views line up pretty closely with those of leftists. But rich people have them convinced otherwise. Its interesting.
Both liberals and leftists tend to support desegregation and lgbt rights though, which to a right winger makes them identical.
Plenty of racism and specifically antisemitism in east block countries, the old USSR, China, etc.
farmers and rural people
Yea farmer cooperatives are fundamentally a leftist thing, but people tend not to see it that way because "leftist" and "progressive" get conflated about as much as "right wing" and "conservative".
Most leftists do not want that, the majority of people asking for economic reform also support gun control. Maybe the turbo LARPers do, but not the average lefty.
Those are liberals, who often aren't even left of center.
The people on the left are asking for socialism... not social democracy, not reforms, not better labor policy. I'm not talking about New Deal Democrats like Mr. Sanders. He only seems fringe from inside the bubble of US politics. In reality he's a left-leaning liberal.
Both ends of the spectrum: fascists and socialists want a heavily armed population.
Imagine being called 'partisan' as a slur because you want what's best for the general populace as a whole. Welcome to the 'empathy is a weakness' age of politics. I will have no empathy when the guillotines are rolled out.

"I was wrong on the tariffs..." but not about calling all of you "...(fairly stupid) partisans..."
