262,083,034 Americans were voting age in 2024 as of last spring.
77 million voted Trump. 75 million or so voted Harris. And 140 million or so didn't vote at all.
So yes, about 217 million Americans either directly voted for this, or enabled it by not voting at all. So the percentage is actually even worse: 82% of voting age Americans.
This problem was highlighted during his first run at presidency thing. It was hugely publicised and they, the majority of people let it happen again!!
Reminds me of something one of their wise men once said:. There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.
This math is a bit wrong. 77+75-262=-110 Americans who didn’t vote. That would make it about 71% of eligible voters who voted for Trump or didn’t vote based on these loose numbers. This matches the math of 75/262 million which is .286 or 29% of eligible voters who voted for Harris.
Still, your point is valid. That’s a lot of people who didn’t vote against Trump.
about 217 million Americans either directly voted for this, or enabled it by not voting at all.
Y'all really need to remember this number includes a whole lot of people who cannot vote. There are also a lot of immigrants who cannot vote.
I get it - we want to blame people. There's more than enough blame to go around though. America as a whole allowed this to happen over the course of 40 years, but America was also slow-walked into it with relentless attacks on education.
IMO, it's better to remember that there is a 100% chance there was election interference that has not been uncovered, or even investigated. Trump and Musk have both made comments on multiple occasions to suggest direct interference. My money is on the "mysterious drones" that immediately disappeared after the election.
All in all, maybe 1/3 of Americans voted for Trump. And of those people, how many do you think have been victim to sophisticated propaganda networks and poor education systems?
I have lots to say about the people who called me "hysterical" for the past 10 years warning of exactly this scenario, but it isn't going to change the reality of what we're facing.
Focus on the real issues - we can't change the past.
Honestly I'm glad they don't vote in a way, because if they are stupid enough to NOT vote in times like this, then if they had their hand forced to do so, they'd be likely stupid enough to majority vote Trump.
Most people IMO stupid enough to think they don't need to or don't have to vote, clearly are too stupid to be trusted to vote at all.
I was rather astounded by the Wisconsin results, thankful that she won, yes, but whatever media I was watching said there was only 52% voter turnout!! After the last 60 days, ONLY 52%?? WTF people!
We lose the thread by simply calling out the stupidity. A LOT of those people stayed home because to them there was no difference. They’d be good either way. Many of them extrapolated that because they didn’t die in the first term. They were wrong but it wasn’t just stupidity that got us here
Those friends are basically explicitly telling you they're fairly stupid. It only takes understanding two things that absolutely everyone should understand to know that it is stupid. One is that we're in a two-party system, so anything other than voting for the lesser evil is being dumb and not playing the game by the existing rules. The other is that Trump's position on Israel was even worse.
I said 99% of America is brainwashed. I didn’t say you or many people here are not part of the 1%. And those things aren’t what make people brainwashed. Total strawman.
You over generalize (a Fallacy) then have the nerve to point out strawman incorrectly , Ignoring that you specifically point out the left is “brainwashed too “ then when you Got pushback tried to act like it wasn’t warranted.
Then what specific thing about most leftists is evidence of their being brainwashed? All the thing the left was called "sensationalists" and "woke" for ended up being real things to worry about.
There's two types of people in the world: those who fly in private jets, and those who wish they did.
As someone who's far more left wing passively than most Americans are actively, let's not pretend the left is morally correct in all their behaviours. But if I try to list literally any act of the Democratic party over the last 20 year's you'll say "nah they're not left! Not like I am!" And ignore the fact that they're who you're voting for. But that's a staple of us on the left, every time we disagree with our own politician we put our fingers in our ears and shout la la la like it wasn't our vote that put them in power.
The right hired a comic book villain into power again, but atleast they stick to their guns on their elected official.
Bro I have zero fucking interest in owning a private jet. If I had that kind of money, I'd fly first class everywhere and subsidize my travel costs that way (the fuel, staffing, maintenance, etc overhead is shared by all passengers on all flights), not burn millions of dollars maintaining and paying the overhead for my own jet. Total fucking waste of money that is more about personal vanity than anything else.
That is just untrue. There are quite a lot of people who think private jet travel should be illegal, and I'm one of them.
Also, understanding that the US political system is broken and doesn't have a real left isn't ignoring who we're voting for. I don't like the people I vote for. They don't represent my views virtually at all. They just aren't nearly as terrible as the other option, and our broken system limits us to two options.
There are certainly delusional people on the left side of the spectrum who have insane ideas that would never work.
But "most"? No. "Most" of us on the left side want the basic shit that Europe has like mandated paid family leave, paid sick leave, 4+ weeks of paid vacation minimum, and publicly funded healthcare. That's it. No brainwashing there. We see what the rest of the free world enjoys and just want it for ourselves, too.
I'd say it's more like 2/3rds. Over 2/3rds either embraced this or didn't think it was important. Anyone who could vote and didn't vote for Kamala is honestly way beyond fairly stupid.
Only 25% voted for Cheeto Jesus. No doubt he won the majority of voters by a thin margin- but it was not 1/2 the country. Just 1/2 of voters. Thats why republicans suppress the vote
Every. Single. Person. Who voted for him or decided not to vote is actively enjoying everything that is happening and if they try to say otherwise they are lying. If they didn’t want it then they would have done the bare minimum to prevent it.
It’s about 1/3 of eligible voters, given 1/3 didn’t vote, and the remaining 2/3 split essentially evenly. Very far cry from the “mandate” the orange amoeba touts.
This will be an excuse for similar dummies around the world. It's a significant % of every country, that want to try to wag the dog like that. It's easier to manage corruption through tariffs than other ways, which I'm sure is part of Trump's plan as well.
We've had no pro-tariff vs free trade debate in America, because it that happened in the 30's, and since then it's been settled and agreed on. But all those people are long gone, and now we have to revisit a bunch of economics that was well-proven, a very long time ago.
Going forward, virtually every large American company will stop at the US shoreline. We can't sell overseas anymore, they will all be protected markets with barriers. If sustained, this will kill -thousands- of them, for no gain that can be realized within a decade, if ever.
If we elect Carney in a few days, we'll be in a position to build an empire upon the ruins of the US and become the Switzerland/ Luxemburg of the Americas, on top of being in the G7 and G20.
Plus, if Carney follows through with his plan to actually distribute the wealth, we could become fucking rich.
We will literally be in a position to adjudicate global finance between Europe, Asia and the US.
