Fellow men, how did you have THE TALK with your son?

For additional context, my son’s mom and I split amicably years ago and we currently live a few states apart. The plan was to have this talk over the summer when he’d come to visit, but his mom caught him playing with himself and we both agree the talk probably needs to happen now.

I never had the talk, just a quick “Do you know what a condom is?” Conversation I barely remember. Having this talk feels awkward, but I don’t want to not have it and he does something stupid as a result. Any advice on how to do this?

Men who lost a significant amount of weight, what helped you stay on track and motivated?

Hello everyone, I hope you are having a good weekend. This post is for my dad, I want to help him lose weight. He is in his early 60s, has been diabetic for over a decade, and has a pacemaker too. He is at least 30kgs overweight, he has been overweight for almost 3 decades now.

I really want to help him lose weight but he barely has the motivation or energy to workout most days, or even walk 30 minutes. He retired two years ago and before that he had an office job.

I have tried giving him the information and everything to help him, and he really does want to get fit, but lacks the motivation a lot.

I would highly appreciate any advice that I can implement so it betters his health. He's also very much into food, once he starts, it's hard for him to stop, so would appreciate any high volume, low calorie food options too.

Thanks!

Former skinny guys who bulked up, what does your diet consist of?

Most healthy eating advice on the internet is geared towards overweight people trying to lose weight. That's great for them, but in my case I'm like 130lbs, I can see my ribs and have noodles for arms, and ideally I'd love to get to the 160-170lb range.

I'd love to hear from guys who were once in my position who worked their way out of it.

What's your most unhinged before 30 advice?

I just turned 27 and been thinking about the big 3-0. I always get the usual make sure you invest, find some hobbies, take a vacation, etc. But what's some off the wall advice your wish you got before, or when, you turned 30?

Edit: I love all the advice from you guys and talking to some of y'all. I posted mostly to try and get a good laugh and see what some people considered unhinged.

As I told someone else, I'm set in my ways for the most part. I have my son from my ex wife and now engaged to a wonderful woman. We just recently bought our first house and are going through all the wonders of that. I spend my time playing video games and trying to read more when I'm not with them or at work. I invest where I can, but I'm trying to focus more on paying off my debt.

You guys are all awesome and I greatly appreciate everything everyone has said. And the guy that says it's better to have a baby momma in Ft. Lauderdale than Buffalo, you a real one.

for men who wanted sons but have a daughter(s), what is it like?

i’m a daughter, and only child (22), and I know for a fact that my dad wanted a son bc my mom has told me. She also told me that when I was born (they left my gender to be a surprise) he was happy about having a daughter and cried tears of joy. But I can’t help but wonder if a part of him had to grieve over never having a son. I’m sure it’s different for all men but any insight is interesting to me, and no judgement at all. In my situation now that im older, I feel as tho my dad might over think our relationship. Like the fact i’m a woman makes it harder for him to connect with me or something cause our relationship is pretty emotionally distant and it makes me sad. and unfortunately a small part of himself buys into the gender wars bs happening on the internet and I don’t think it’s helping the situation. If you see men and women as being so intrinsically different from one another and total opposites then of course that’s gonna rlly fuck up ur perception of the world too and ur relationships with the opposite sex. Ultimately (even tho i’m an adult) i’m still just his kid and want to spend time w him

Why can't I find a good undershirt?

Upvotes

Any reco's? I feel like I've tried them all. Either the torso is too short, or the material sucks, or it bunches up, or it's too tight... All I want is a crew neck and a V neck, in black and in white, with decent not too thick material - like modal. But I don't want spandex either. Where is this magical shirt?

How do you get someone help when they refuse?

Upvotes

Not looking for “medical advice”. But what can you do when someone refuses to get mental help? If still not allowed in this group then I need to know where I can post this. The situation is getting quite concerning already and I have no clue what I can do

How to do a clean buzzcut myself?

So I recently gave myself a buzzcut and it actually turned out alright overall. Super low maintenance, which I love. Only issue is the back of my head/neck area, where the hair ends. I’m not trying to do any fades or fancy stuff, just want it to look clean. I have the “mcdonalds” logo on the back if you know what I mean.

Last time, I went to a barber a couple weeks later just to clean up the neckline, but I’d like to be able to do it myself now.

Any tips or tools you recommend? Like, how do you do it without ending up with a crooked line?

What’s your favorite musical?

I think that Les Miserables is a near perfect movie. The only thing holding it back from a 10/10 is Russell Crowe’s dreadful singing.

What are some things you loved as a kid and early 20s that you despise now?

  1. The MCU. Im a huge comicbook fan but its pretty much done now.

  2. Spiderman. I never thought i wouldnt relate to the webhead as i get older.

  3. The big city. Now that im 30. You couldnt pay me to live in a metropolis.

  4. Violence. Ive done martial arts my entire life. And got in a ton of fights even in my 20s. Now i look back like what the fuck was i doing. Embarrasing.

  5. Having a ton of friends. Its just drama.

  6. Buffalo wild wings. I literally used to go every night.

  7. Staying up all night. Im 30. Nuff said
