But they only care about their safety. Itās why pickup truck drivers never take off hitches, their thought process is āI want to do the most amount of damage in case a car rear ends meā
0
u/nowhere_near_home 20h ago
It literally protects your bumper from taking the force in the event of a rear end collision. I would much rather the hitch take it than have to deal with your shitty insurance company.
Has saved me on several occasions.
Try not to rear end people I guess.
4
u/OptimalFunction 13h ago
The hitch can cause a lot of damage even when itās not the other partyās fault.
For example, pick up trucks back up and hit parked cars. Now because of that hitch, a radiator and several engine parts might need replacingā¦ when the truckās bumper might have just caused a dent.
In standstill traffic, the car behind a pickup truck could be hit be a third vehicle and launched into the back of that hitch.
I understand why hitches are placed in the back when not towing (some states consider that illegal), but we live in a society where normal behavior is not to want to cause unnecessary harm to one another. Engineers have designed vehicles to minimize harm to everyone, thought went into the design after research and testing. If it had been determined that it was safer for everyone to drive with a hitch, it would be factory install.
I also, understand the mentality of most pickup truck drivers, itās āfuck you, I only care about myselfā lol

True, my friend rear ended one in a mustang and they were both high enough that he went under the bumper and you could see the perfect imprint of the hitch receiver in the middle of his hood. Truck was fine

Huh? Itās both bad parking and poor design. Both exist. But dang if most of these comments arenāt incredibly unhinged. People need to re-examine their life choices if they think harming this (bad) parker, or damaging their personal property is somehow any more acceptable.

"Muh trucks to big and it's an inconvenience for me to park somewhere where it's not an inconvenience to pedestrians. Also removing muh hitch is also an inconvenience. Gotta tow muh boat in 3 weeks 'sides. How about we make all spaces bigger, so we have less parking space. Them city designer fellahs should have known that trucks would keep getting bigger and deesigned it better!"

u/cant_think_of_one_ 19h ago
I hope someone took advantage of the convenient access to remove parts from underneath.
1
u/ATLDeepCreeker 19h ago
I disagree. He did a perfect job parking. The bad job is the parking lot designer. The guy has a long truck so he made sure to pull it all the way back. I'd rather he back up onto the sidewalk than be 3 feet into the parking lane.

u/sunflower691 17h ago
Truck drivers are the biggest menace to society. Canāt drive anywhere without them tailgating you. When they get in front of you or pull out in front of you, they do it in the most dangerous way possible. Theyāre always parking over the sidewalk or taking up two spaces. Sometimes both. Iāve never met a single truck driver that didnāt have severe road rage. In conclusion, truck drivers are the worst. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Man, these big trucksā¦I drive a small car, and parked in an open, slanted parking lot just yesterday. When I came back to the car, to leave, a massive pickup like this was next to me, on my left drivers side. For me to back out, I had to cross against it, with traffic coming up from that side. Whew. I managed, because I backed up so slowly and constantly checking that direction. So much truck completely obscuring my vision. The length and height of that vehicle makes driving a smaller car like mine, a 2011 3 series, very challenging. Not just in parking lots either.

No, I would suggest finding a spot where that vehicle fits.
Take some responsibility for your choices and actions. That might mean you can't use all parking spots, but you made that choice when you bought a pickup. Children do what you are suggesting.

u/LungzOskunk 1d ago
you think engineers would take that into consideration? Itās kind of like seatbelts. They still use 175 pound male as a subject.
