The unicorn is the National animal of Scotland. its also on their coat of arms.

Reigns of the Golden King, Sambas rare, and Winged Guardian...so retconned but not in classic.

Rare and mythical so it fits. Some link unicorns if not a native creation (add a horn to a horse) to bad word of mouth about a rhino (4 hooves, horn, mammal).
