I disagree, I think this is a reach. I get the sentiment but it’s not the same thing.
There’s RMT in PoE as well, you can buy currency just like you can in WoW. If that’s all Elon was doing I’d agree. But he’s doing that plus getting piloted by someone much better than him to appear to be a skilled/high level player.
The WoW equivalent would be buying gold + getting your character leveled to 60 by someone else, then having them get top tier parses for you as well or having them grind to R14 for you.
If you’re buying gold but still leveling yourself, raiding yourself, doing PVP yourself I have a hard time saying you’re doing the same thing as someone who is just not doing any of that themselves. You’re taking a shortcut, sure, but there’s levels to it in my opinion.
Blizzard's detection must be so ass if they can't track sales across the AH. Like sure if someone does it once maybe it could get lost in the transactions, but if you're repeatedly selling shit way overpriced to the same account over and over how hard could it possibly be for Blizz to track that? It's just pure apathy + laziness.
I worked for a bank for the better part of a decade and the effort that goes into tracking the real world equivalent of this is neither easy nor cheap.
I'm not saying Blizzard shouldn't be putting in more effort but any notion that this is an easy solve is uh.. very wrong.
Real world transacations are significantly more complex surely? Literally just flagging that one account has sold hundreds of items to the same account at thousands of percent over market value should trip some kind of alarm.
I mean not really, the vast majority of fraud is very simple.
And the problem isn't actually identifying people doing the wrong thing, it's proving it. Look how nuts this sub goes for every incorrect automated ban, and honestly entirely fair that shouldn't happen!
Would you be OK having your account perma'd because you were "obviously a bot"? I farm a lot of DMT and I have had many people angrily inform me I was being reported as a bot because I didn't reply to their messages wanting buffs or whatever. Should I have been banned?
It all gets so messy so fast. I'm not saying they can't do it, but the notion that it would be "super easy" is very much not the case.
No of course not, but I also think being auto banned from spam reports by the DMT cartel is more of an issue than auto banning someone who has transferred 10k+ gold by AH.
Again, we're talking about hundreds of sales from one account to another separate account all at hundreds or thousands of percent markup. There is a difference between that and flipping on the auction house. But sure, point sustained.
Because they don't care about the time spent. It's not a sign of anything positive. Getting the same thing and having the same skill, without the grind is what they want.
Why should you be able to be a part of the sweatlords if you don't have time to put in the sweat? Entitled much?
Because like 15mins of income can cover all that completely numb grind. And at the end of the day that's the least fun and least skillful part of the game. No one respects it.
So if I download a save game of the first (MAX_LEVELS -1) levels of some popular speed run game, from some pro speed running, and then I just use that save to run last level over and over to try to beat the "overall world record", that's not cheating, because the first levels were all just a completely numb grind anyway.
Now this is all about one specific person you talked to that is part of some random speed run community? Do they specifically care about how you got your gold? Lol are you part of that community?
But sure, let's use your really dumb example. Segmented runs are allowed in many speed run communities. So yes, as long as you can prove you can do the first parts once, you can start from the end. Just like anyone who buys gold could easily farm gold, they just have better shit to do.
Lol, I have a job and four kids and still get plenty of gold selling pots, about 400g a week, 600 on good weeks. That's more then enough. If I had the time I could double that but I log in every morning and afternoon to check AHs and play in some of the evenings.
A circlejerk doesn’t have to be wrong, he’ll, the original concept of one is a bunch of people agreeing on trivially easy matters and congratulating each other heavily for doing so.
