Event incident at the Corvallis Half Marathon and 5k
hi y'all,
if anyone learns any updates on the first gal who was taken by ambulance today from the finish (the one who was unresponsive), please, please tell me. i feel horrible because i was hit so hard by the bystander effect and the call to EMS was delayed by a few minutes (at least) because of it. i should have just called but i didn't, figuring someone else had. if anyone learns whether or not she made it, please let me know. it's been weighing on me since it happened earlier today. thank you š

Piece of art was left at the protest today
As we were packing up the booths at the end of the protest this was left by a tree. I opted to take it home and will bring it to the next protest I go to, but if this belongs to someone and they want it back, let me know. This is incredible. Its a big canvas and obviously took a lot of effort.

Don't move to Oakvale
I decided to share a video from my move out about 6 weeks ago. I'm now in a much better spot, thank goodness. I've seen Oakvale highly recommended and I want to step forward and say no one should move here. Here's just a few reasons :
Thanks to zero natural light, poor insulation and living in a forest our apartment developed very serious mold. I became incredibly sick there.
For 1,800 dollars a month we got 720 square feet, no balcony, no washer dryer and were up really janky flights of stairs
The garden is tilled every year and has hard clay for soil so good luck growing there
The walls are so incredibly thin you will hear everything, and I mean everything your neighbors are doing. Flushing the toilet. Closing the fridge. Walking. Every conversation if they are louder speakers. And yes, unfortunately sex too. :x
Your neighbors might be literally abusive, you might get bit by an off leash dog (both of our experiences ) and the manager won't do a thing about it ! She'll leave a little note to please stop lol.
Our bedroom had a small hole in the closet where you could see the outside world so plenty of mold and freezing temps happened in there.
Your kitchen will be tiny and opening the fridge prevents exit or entry for others. You won't be able to cook with a roommate or anyone.
Your bathtub and toilet are 2 inches apart.
You will struggle to find parking
I probably don't need to go on. I want to prevent anyone the pain of this move in, because we weren't allowed to see the place first. You deserve better for your money !

Prom Dress Giveaway, Sat. & Sun. April 5 & 6
I don't know who needs to hear this, but my daughter just went to the prom dress giveaway that's happening at the College Hill High School gymnasium. She said there was a lot of dresses and not a lot of people. It's for two days this weekend, until 5 PM. Here's a news story about it:

Considering moving to Corvallis
Wife and I are considering moving up to Corvallis or somewhere in the Willamette Valley after she gets out of the Navy in February 2026. Iām originally from Kodiak, Alaska so the Pacific Northwest climate is nothing new to me. She was born in Oklahoma, but grew up here in San Diego. Planning on driving through Oregon here in August to check it out for ourselves. I guess is there anything we should check out while we stop there? Also had a couple concerns regarding living there. Heard itās predominantly white in Oregon, and we definitely want our son to grow up in a relatively diverse environment since we both did. So can we expect to see other races there, and while on the topic of race, Is racism a problem there? Just how bad is the homelessness? Weāre down here in San diego so weāve seen just how bad it can unfortunately be, but obviously people tend to exaggerate when theyāve never really seen other places. Would you say itās good for families? Got an 8month old son, and weāre looking to have another at some point. Are there resources for Veterans? I was in the Marine corps and sheāll be getting out of the Navy here soon so. And lastly, how do you yourself like living there? Appreciate it, and hope ya all have a good rest of your day!

Question does anyone know why DHS is hiring for Philomath location?
DHS uniformed LE services is hiring and location posted is for Philomath, what the heck does DHS have in Philomath or planned? Again this is for uniformed LE, not ICE or HSI, Homeland Security Investigations or anything like that. DHS uniform guys are often assigned to ports be it sea or air but obviously that is not Philomath, what is going on?

Could someone please drive by/walk by a rental for me
It and the adjacent unit are vacant. Iām needing to sign a lease from out-of-state and my experiences trying to communicate with the property managers have left me concerned. There are no pics. Their latest reasoning was that it needs to be cleaned. Itās been vacant for several months so Iām concerned itās significantly damaged, moldy(allergic), or something else is very wrong.

Skill exchange?
Hi internet users of Corvallis area.
I'd like to learn a new creative skill. In return, I can teach you how to draw.
I have been a lifelong draw-er, and have confidence I can give you a good overview of how to think like an illustrator.
I am also wanting to learn new skills, specifically other creative skills. (like how to make a stool or electronics repair?)
If anyone is interested, let me know :)

Is there a schedule for the freight trains?
Like if Iām tryna make plans to hang out in one of the adjacent parks and I want to be wary of any train passing events in advance, is there some sort of schedule I can view that conglomerates whenever whatever companies are sending a section of cars thru?
Idk anything about this stuff I just hope theres some kind of public facing info Thx

Corvallis: if you donāt like the rent increases, overly priced homes, and the increased homeless population, vandalism, and
(Iām ready for the hate with my unpopular opinion)
Then stop bragging about your town online and on social media. Selling your town to others to make yourself look better or to express your personal worth by bragging about where you live is what increases living costs and decreases the quality of life. Oregonians used to have this attitude, and this is why Oregon was nice for some time - we once had a sign that read āenjoy your visit, but please go homeā of which denotes the attitude of this being a tourist state. But now, with social media, weāve got assholes doing hit and runs on cyclists, shootings, break ins and rapeā¦ Oregon (and Corvallis is no exception, unfortunately) is just the new California, because of this advertisement and boasting thatās going on. People from all over are flocking here - the cost of living has merely tripled in 15 years, and the air quality and quality of life (general safety) has gone down. If you all keep this up, we will be California in 30 years.
