Because a lot of people seem to need help legit checking laced winning boxing gloves, i thought it would be helpful to make a detailed and definitive guide/checklist with things to look out for in legit checking winning gloves.
Following i refer the 8-10oz lace as fight gloves and 12oz and above as training gloves.
Laces: The laces should be round with cut off tips. But could have been replaced.
Liner: The Liner should be navy blue
Tag: Comes with this Japanese tag when new
Box: When new also come with the Winning Cardboard-Box
Size-Indicator: Size-indication is inside and on the grip-bar only. They never have a tag on the outside of the glove.
Left: fakes, right: original
These mentioned above are the most common checking methods. But seeing the quality of replica clothes/shoes i think all of those would be quite easy to copy/have been copied already.
Airholes: Laced Winning boxing gloves do not have airholes. Velcro 8oz and 10oz have 3 Airholes under the gripbar.
Left: original, right: fakes
Lace-Hole-Count: Winning boxing gloves have following lace-hole-count: fight gloves: 5 / Training gloves: 7
Left-Top: Training gloves, left-bottom: Fight gloves, right: Fakes
Patch: Font is thinner on rounded areas of the letter (exp. Bottom part of the «W», top part oft he «n») and does not have the same thickness everywhere. In comparison you can see the fakes have the same thickness throughout.
Left: original, right: fakes
Wrist: Fight gloves have a straight wrist, while the training gloves have two bumps (a smaller and a bigger one with the same thickness). The fakes seem to have a thicker smaller bump. The wrist also should be about 1/3 of the length and the hand part the remaining 2/3. The fakes seem to almost seem half/half.
Left: original, right: fakes
Stitching: The stitching has a «wide pattern». For example the same width has relatively little holes and longer string-parts, while the fakes have way more holes.
Left: original, right: fakes
Shape:
The overall shape should not look blocky or ballooney.
Top: original, bottom: fakes
But should still maintain a sharp edge (on the training gloves)
You can see a clear edge on the training gloves
from the side-view the training glove should be pretty flat, not bulbous and seem to have almost the same thickness throughout the glove. The fight gloves are a little bit more bulbous.
Left: fight gloves, right: training gloves
Left: original, right: fakes
Palm: The hole on the the palm side is not perfectly round, it should slightly be slanted towards thumb.
Left: original, right: fakes
Thumb: The training gloves should have S-shaped/Hook-Shaped thumb, while the fight glove is a little bit straighter, but should still curve at the tip. The fake training gloves usually have a C shaped or a straight thumb.
Left-top: training gloves, left-bottom: fight gloves, right: fake
Thumb-Strip: Is black on all basic colorways
Leather-Quality: The leather should be grainy and not look «flat» and maybe contain some imperfections. The «flat» leather is most of the time a glove from pakistan.
see other pictures also of the originals
Price: Use common sense. If a winning gloves is new and priced $100, it probably won't be orignal.
Bonus: To clarify the misconception, i would like to mention, that the training- and the fight-gloves have the same padding (according to Kataoka from Winning).
I hope this guide will help people new to this sub and don't have to post a legit check every 5 minutes and if so, we can refer to this guide.
Please comment below if i have to correct something/add something. Thanks
Rivals glove quality has always been exceptional and has shown to be among the best brands.
The Rival RFX GUERRERO PRO Sparring glove is solid. It is very compact on the interior and begins to form to your hand nicely. The hand protection on this glove was also very nice as I, someone with some chronic wrist pain have not faced any sort of problems with these gloves and my wrist. That being said the gloves knuckle area is very stiff and solid, for me it didn’t end up breaking in and remained stiff which on the downside for you, keeps your hand in a fist position the whole time, not really allowing you to open up your gloves that much. But this may be something you may want as on your opponents side they will feel that very stiff glove.
The RS1 2.0 is also an amazing glove for the price. around 170-180$ USD the glove has a softer more malleable finish on the foam used making it more able to open and close the fist it also sports a slimmer design in contrast to the RFX Guerrero and isn’t as bulky. The gloves lace system is unique and has not really been seen elsewhere but over time I have come see that the wrist area doesn’t hold up like the rest of the glove. It begins to soften and become looser right at the wrist whilst the forearm stays more intact. This has given me some issues, and I’d say the rfx is more protective. Though this issue that can happen over time I personally prefer the RS1 as its feel and ability to move about with my hand is nicer, though the wrist may be a problem.
Selling winning FG5000 headgear size L in red I legitimately used it 2 times bought a black cup and should’ve gotten a matching black headgear trying to save for that instead
Had enough of Gurrero QC issues tbh. First the 10oz fit Comic D3o low round count now these
These Rival Guerrero P4P have only done around 25x rounds & already left hand thumb stitches have started to come out. These P4P are Rivals most expensive retail glove (aside from their overpriced signature coloured gloves almost double the price of the non signature glove) and is my most expensive glove @ $469 Aud.
For a 16oz glove to do this in 25 rounds is crazy
I mean i thought maybe the Comic D3o started pulling at a leather joint because it maybe designed for smaller boxers because it was extremely tight barely got my hand in but, these are coming apart way worse & are 16oz with decently big hand fit so not just for small boxers. Can see my forearm/hand is not that big with laces tightened all the way & roomy thumb. Cant see in pics but the glove is about 20mm wider than my hand not tight in any way.
What annoys me is i really liked these P4P gloves and the colorway. Such a good comfortable one glove do everything, but no way im buying another P4P now to replace these faulty ones not a chance.
I was very happy with my Fighton 10oz Gold/silver/white gloves these P4P are getting replaced by a pair of Fighton 16oz lace purple/black.
All other gloves i had/have in the pricerange venum hammers, venum giant 2.0, reyes training velcro, cheaper Rival Chinese made gloves, cheaper Punch Fuerte, all my cheaper Fairtex gloves, cheaper RDX gloves all fine
Thats the last pair of Gurreros i will ever purchase. My cheaper leather Rival RS10v $199 did heaps more rounds without issues, this happening in 25 rounds is completely unnaceptable
I’m 6’2 220 with bigger hands, and I’m curious because I usually only see smaller fighters use them, while I see fighters my size stick to rival, everlast, fly (etc). Would winnings still be a good investment or would something else benefit my a person my size?
So I was almost set on top king for muay thai sparring until I seen others saying it's hard to open the hand which sucks for clinching. I was high on them for the soft padding which is nice for sparring partners. Any other options in the same price range?
Hey everyone, I just wanted to ask if anyone has any advice on how to care for your leather gloves? I’ve read mixed opinions about using Vaseline on them. I thought about getting general leather care spray for things like cars but figured I should ask here. So far I’ve just been wiping them down and air drying them after each use. For context, I have 16oz Red Winning Gloves. Any help would be appreciated :)
I was thinking about getting some super lace x during the sale but after researching previous posts regarding fly on this sub I’m uncertain if I should. It seems you really love them or you hate them when it comes to these gloves. You either get a great pair or you get a pair that falls apart within a month. Which sucks because I really like their colorways on the super lace x.
Hoping someone could answer a few questions for me about the Fly superlace X and Hit n move balance.
Right now im using the Rival RS100s 16oz but for me the glove is bulky and stiff. I was leaning towards the fly because i hear they are easy to open and close the palm to catch shots and the padding is fairly soft but gives good feedback. I haven’t got much information about how stiff the padding is on the Hit n moves and how easy it is to open and close the palm but I do hear that they can be fairly bulky.
I have no hand problems when it comes to knuckles and wrists and also do not care about the price and definitely like when its easy to open the gloves palm because catching shots is my favorite and when i feeling the punch feedback.
The main questions im hoping someone could answer is how easy is it to open and close the palm of the hit n move balances, are the hit n moves padding stiff, and are the hit n moves bulky.
for reference ive been boxing for a year spar 3 times a week and i weigh 140 pounds
So I need to get my own sparring gear soon. More recently have borrowed head gear, etc from friends in the gym.
For context I'm 37 so I'm not trying to make a career out of this, may take some masters fights in the future.
I'm a big fan of Rival so I was going to pull the trigger on this set but wanted to get some opinions. Thoughts?
I bought a pair of boxhog 2’s under 4 months ago, actually maybe around 2 and a half (hard sparring’s catching up to me)
Already the shoes have worn down in both shoe and have ripped through the insole, I was wondering what you would do in my situation. I don’t think I can replace the insole as this insole seems to be stitched in
