No U-Pass Program
Insane to not justify when there are two downtown campuses (SCS and Law) and the fact like the Georgia Tech branch campus has it

Hi everyone!
I have mentioned this a couple of times, but I finally pulled the trigger and created a Grad Student Discord!
Here is the link: https://discord.gg/TF9zz8sbqh
Also, I am not very great at Discord, so if anyone in this sub would be willing to be an Admin, please let me know!
(edited to include a link that won’t expire)

Hi!
I was recently accepted into Georgetown, and it’s one of my top choices. I plan to major in Biology (though I’m also considering switching to the College of Health) on a pre-med track. My goal is to become a dermatologist, and while med school is a long time from now, I want to make sure I’m setting myself up for success early—ideally aiming for schools like NYU Grossman or Stanford.
I’m also considering Brown, Rice, CWRU, and UNC Chapel Hill, but I absolutely love Georgetown’s culture and the idea of living in a bigger city after growing up in a small suburban town.
That said, I’d love to hear your honest thoughts—would you choose Georgetown again for your pre-med journey? Are there strong research or clinical opportunities available, and how competitive is it to land them? Do you feel Georgetown supports its pre-med students well? And how have other pre-meds from Georgetown fared in the med school process?
Thanks so much for your time!

Hi everyone! I’m starting my MPP studies at McCourt this year. For those of you who are already studying there — what advice would you give to a newcomer? (I’m not a U.S. citizen, originally from Central Asia.)

Heyyy!! So Oxford or Cambridge has been my dream school and I was unfortunately rejected from Oxford post-interview this year. I’m coming to Georgetown this year in the SFS, and Georgetown was my 2nd choice after Oxford so it did work out mostly in the end!! But I still really want to study at Oxbridge and I’m wondering how the application process is, if anyone here as done it (and gotten in) and how achievable/competitive is it. I’ve seen the grade requirements online but I don’t have access to the presentation and whatnot. I would probably apply as a PPE or HSPS at Oxford or Cambridge, respectively. Also my dad attended Pembroke college Cambridge for undergrad but ik they don’t do legacies so it’s unlikely it will mean anything
Also which grades are available to study there (I’d assume only juniors but maybe sophomore?)

i'm a highschool senior, just got into georgetown and got finaid. the state school and gtown would be about the same (give or take a couple thousand). state school is pretty good, has nice opportunities but like... it's georgetown yk?? i would major in government through CAS- my 'dream job' would to be either a senator or work under someone in congress as a chief of staff or communications or something. i look up to Liz Cheney. literally any thoughts would help, be straight up with me.

Hey Hoyas!
I was admitted REA to MSB in December 2024, I've heard the financial aid at Georgetown was bad but I didn't know it was practically impossible to get any aid from Georgetown directly. I am researching external scholarships that could help me make the tuition cost cheaper but I keep on running to the lucrative "$5,000+ Scholarship No Essay" on every website that makes it feel like a lottery ticket. I'm trying to find real scholarships (preferably merit-based so I can at least show effort and describe why I would want the scholarship) and was wondering if anyone attending are about to attend has gone through the same process. If anyone has any specific scholarship in mind or website, that would be very helpful.
Also, does anyone know if its possible to negotiate your aid? Georgetown seems very strict/heavy on the family need tuition cost and I don't know if it's worth the effort to fight for a lower tuition (or if I even can).

Hello everyone! Thank you to the mods for allowing me to post. Very last minute, but there is an incredibly important protest happening tomorrow! We the People will be protesting at over 100 locations around the country and we (the American people) need you to show up! We may disagree with each other often but we need to stand together tomorrow against Trump. It is especially important for young people, such as yourselves, to get out, to show that the future of our country is against this.
More information can be found at handsoff2025.com and 50501dc.com but you do not have to sign up to show up!

georgetown is basically my perfect school in every way, except that it's not a big CS school. i'm hoping to transition to female when i get to college; in yalls experience does georgetown have a trans community there i could look to for support?
hoya saxa!

Likely incoming Georgetown Law student here. Trying to get a better estimate of Cost of Living in DC than the “official” breakdown on Georgetown Law’s website.
Assuming I’m living as frugally as possible — metro/walking to and from class, potentially living with a roommate, rarely spending money to eat/go out, etc, what’s a ballpark estimate I can expect it to cost me?

My daughter will be joining Georgetown for Masters in Public Policy starting this fall. Looks like the housing options are 55 H St. NW (Capitol Campus Residence) or renting something close to the main campus. My primary concern is safety. Any thoughts? Anyone with first hand experience of living at 55 H St. NW?
Thanks !

i realize this is kind of last minute, but even an undergrad who knows of the law school campus, would be cool to speak to someone who knows the place!

Very grateful to have the option to study at the SFS… but it’s full price and my family has very suddenly flipped on me and told me that they can’t pay for Georgetown.
My other option is UCSD for international relations, which is half the price of Gtown but doesn’t have the same networking/career opportunities.
I really need help. Do I choose Georgetown and 360k in student loans or UCSD at half the price? I love Georgetown but I can’t justify the cost to my parents and don’t know how successful an appeal will be. I also want to attend law school, so that changes things as well.
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hi!! I got accepted and will hopefully enroll (depending on financial aid) but would like to ask if anyone here knows if there is a ceramics/pottery class/studio at Georgetown or through the consortium?

Hello everyone, I'm a senior in high school who was recently accepted into Washington & Lee, Northwestern, and Georgetown. I am currently leaning towards Georgetown, but I was wondering if there was anyone like me who had no idea what they wanted to major in and had/has a broad array of interests who I could reach out to. I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed with figuring out what I want to major in, despite knowing deep down that I still have time to figure it out. It would be nice to connect with someone who also felt lost but have begun finding their way at Georgetown. Thanks :)

How do people feel about all the money being spent on building the "Capital Campus".

I got accepted to both Michigan Ross and Georgetown McDonough school of business. I want to go into consulting/IB after college. I’m having an incredibly difficult time deciding which school to attend I feel like both will get me to about the same place recruiting-wise (both seem to be elite). The main things im weighing are gtown’s overall prestige edge vs Michigan’s edge in terms of social life + fun outside the classroom. Any thoughts.

The Georgetown priority deadline for financial aid for current students is March 31st, but due to extenuating personal and family circumstances, I had to submit it two days late. I really wanted to submit it earlier, but I could not due to circumstances beyond my control. I rely on financial aid for college and could not attend it without it. Will I still enough receive financial aid to attend Georgetown next year? Will I still receive the same amount of aid as if I submitted it on time given my circumstances? I’m freaking out

Hello there! I've heard the office is severely overworked and underpaid. As an incoming FGLI student who is heavily reliant on the financial aide packages (that are to come out next week for RD applicants accepted) do any current students have advice on what to expect for the department? I am super prepared to dive deep into researching how I can get better aid, prepare for work-study/loans, or vamp up on scholarships.
My profile for reference: I qualify for max federal pell grant (~$7.4k) and the estimated Georgetown calculator told me to expect to pay $6k out of pocket (im waiting on several scholarships and will be awarded $6.5k minimum.) Will Georgetown be stingy with my package?
