Meetup My application to make friends at GMU

Post image
73 Upvotes

This is one of the more odd things ive done but I'm bored and tired of school so I should probably make friends so I hate it less.

Idek if this is the right place to do this cuz I literally don't use reddit and only got it to find where the microwaves were at gmu.

But anyways I'm 18 y/o, female, hispanic, bioengineer major (I'm soo switching out of that next semester). I'm quiet and a lil awkward at first but then get very talkative and am quite energetic. I like the colour blue and lowkey addicted to clothes. I like lots of different music but my favourite right now is definitely 2000's-2010's party music. My top three artists today probably Pitbul, Artic Monkeys, Ayesha Erotica.

Idk what else to really say abt myself so yeah. I'd be down to just sit w people and just quietly study just to keep company or I'm down to walk around school and be stupid or anything in-between. Feel free to ask questions and dm (if thats a thing on here i literally have no clue if its not lmk). Also just to be clear if your intentions are not to be just a friend please just dont, I'm too tired for all that unfortunately.

Rant Clubs Here Suck

I’m so tired of people immediately recommending clubs when someone says they’re looking for friends.

Every single club I have joined at Mason sucks. There’s no meetings, nobody does anything, when I join the discord(s) nobody but the ‘executives’ talk. And maybe I’m not joining the right club, but isn’t the point to join what interests you? Like maybe another club is more active, let’s say the Anime club, but I don’t like Anime, so why would I join a club based on stuff I don’t like just because it might be more active? That makes no sense.

How about instead of immediately recommending ‘join a club!’ We actually recommend something useful? Idk it’s very frustrating because I did Greek Life (and the girls there are selfish assholes {I would use a different word here that starts with ‘C’ if I could}). I joined numerous clubs—only for none of them to meet like EVER so I.e. not actually meeting anyone to make friends with. People in class are fucking weird—every time I try to talk to someone in class they look at me like I grew 3 heads.

Maybe this generation is just completely fucked and has absolutely no real social skill capabilities. Or maybe this area (especially GMU) is full of a lot of pretentious d-bags. Maybe it’s a combination! Who knows?

Edit: some of you are very butthurt it seems. The downvotes on some of my comments are actually crazy and just go to show me some of yall missed my point completely . The point of the post is to point out the lack of sociability this campus has. The title is to catch the reader’s attention, not to focus on just clubs. If I had said ‘this college isn’t very social’ nobody would click on the post because yeah duh we all kinda know that.

Rant Piazza rant (for cs students

• Upvotes

Senior graduating, I have overall been chill with piazza but im pretty tired of professors who use it for notifications, especially poorly. Professors will give a date to a quiz or project due date in the replies of an UNPINNED post, then proceed to expect everyone to know about it.

Canvas and blackboard has features specifically for announcements, due dates, and upcoming assignments, so why are professors putting dates on a forum website?? Forums are specifically made foe organizing discussion and Q&A, not for me having to scroll every single student post just to find a date.

It's been 3 separate classes I've had during my time at gmu where I misses a deadline entirely because of this. Syllabus straight up says the due dates, so why are we changing them without proper notice?

Anyways that's it, I hope the cs professors here stop doing this because this is not what a forum is for.

Rant Vending Machines Rant

Can someone put these shitty ass vending machines out of business, I am begging you!

Bring back the student snack sellers if someone starts that here on campus I will keep you in business<3

  1. The vending machines are never connected to wifi resulting in a 2-5 minute wait time

2.You can’t even select two at a time so now you at the vending machine for like 10 min if it works

3.If not then it cancels your order after waiting 5 minutes

  1. Then they lock after a failed transaction and take cash only for a whole hour

Please take them and bring back the big back old mechanical machines that takes cash only and there’s no need for a wifi connection. Or someone please start selling snacks.

Ughhh as you can tell I wanted a snack that seems accessible but it isn’t. I grocery shop but I haven’t for the week I’ve been stressed and wanted one bag of chips and wasted like 10 minutes standing for something I couldn’t get.

Hey GMU!

We’re in the process of starting a new student organization called SCOPE—Shadowing and Clinical Opportunities for Pre-Health Experiences—launching Fall 2025 (currently in the RSO application phase).

We’re holding interviews for one final officer position to join our founding executive team. If you’re passionate about healthcare, leadership, and helping pre-health students gain access to clinical and shadowing opportunities, this could be a great fit for you!

✅ Must be a current GMU student on the pre-health track

✅ Must be organized, reliable, and interested in helping build a club from the ground up

✅ Previous leadership or club experience is a plus, but not required

Interested? DM us or comment below and we’ll reach out to schedule a quick chat/interview!

Academics Easy classes for Health Admin CHHS elevtives requirement?

My schedule says it has to be at least a 200 level class in GCH, HAP, HHS, NUTR, or SOCW. I really need a brain dead I could do this in my sleep class cause I'm TIREDDD and need this last semester to be easy. I was thinking about taking HAP 361 just because I think it'd be helpful to know about health databases so if anyone's taken that or knows anybody who's taken that pls lmk how it is!

Edit: preferably something that doesnt do hella papers, LONGGGG discussion boards (short/casual is fine), or hella research. I miss class discussions and just interacting
