New dog and golden owner. I think I might have bought from a backyard breeder. Concerned about long term health?
I am a new to owning a dog and always dreamt of having a golden. My husband and i fell in love with a pup we saw on puppyspot.
I am so invested in learning about how to care for her and respectively have been learning a lot. I have been reading Reddit posts about GRCA standards, and how ideally you should have records of the pup’s parents and grandparent’s health records. We did not receive any of this information. We are also reading that a dedicated breeder will ask a number of questions about you as an owner to see if you are a good fit for their puppy. Our breeder also did not do that.
We reached out about one question/concern to the breeder in the 6 days we received her. They did not respond.
She received her vaccines up to age 12 weeks old and has been examined by a vet before she left.
We spent $2500 on the pup herself and then spent about $5-600 to transport her from IN to our home in New England,
Maybe I just need to get off the internet, but should I be worried about the underlying health and habits of the breeder if these standards were not well defined on their websites?
Does anyone have any experience and any sort of advice or even reassurance? I know I am going to provide her with the best life I can, but I worry about underlying health predispositions that I maybe could have done a better job about researching before we went all in and fell in love with a puppy.
Thank you so kindly in advance

Size Question
our sweet and handsome boy is about 5.5 months old. He is about 40lbs. About how much larger could he get? When do goldens start to shed and fill out? Thank you!

My boy needs surgery please help (also sorry if this aint the right sub to post)
galleryHey everyone, this is Tony tony chopper and he needs your help. He has been puking his guts out and can’t defecate, for which the vets diagnosed him of having intestinal obstruction and requires surgery(costs ~2k) asap. It seems that he has chewed off one of his toys. Tony is a lively 3.5 year old boy and is heart of the family so we can’t even imagine putting him down. We have exhausted every available option and forced to ask for help. He is the most patient boy and always asks for pets from strangers, nudging them with his snout. Please donate for his surgery. Even a dollar means a lot at these times. Please also help me finding any groups who can help. https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-tony-tony-chopper?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=fundraisers-title&mlp_referrer_id=10486027 Edit- had to pause my fundraiser as it doesn’t support international donations, please ask for my paypal

Nash and his rash
galleryMy sweet, sweet Golden Nash has a rash on his inside back thigh (third pic) that’s a bit more concerning to me than others he’s had. He’s 4 and has had some of the typical Golden skin sensitivities, but this rash has more swelling and “welts” than others in the past. It also doesn’t look as bad in the picture, but much more red and some bumps in there.
Switched food from the Kirkland Salman and rice to Kirkland Chicken and Rice a few months ago because he was developing spots on his lower back and other places with the former food. The spots have actually decreased since the newer food, but I haven’t seen him with a rash like this since he was a puppy. Any thoughts here?

Golden Retriever from Wisconsin; Breeder Mary Burke - Looking for Siblings
💛 Hi, I’m Dexter—and I need your help. 💛🐾
I was born on January 10, 2020, a fluffy little ray of sunshine thanks to my breeder, Mary Burke, who also bred my mom. I’m reaching out now in hopes of finding something very special—my littermates or other related pups.
Recently, I was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma, and while my humans are doing everything they can to support me, I’m now in need of something more:
a stem cell match—and maybe, just maybe, one of my siblings or close relatives could be the one to help save my life.
If you adopted a Golden from Mary around early 2020, or you think your pup may be related to me, please reach out. There is a cash reward for any match who can help with this journey.
Even if you're not a match, connecting with my brothers and sisters would mean the world to me and my family. 💛
📍 I’m based in Chicago but willing to connect across the country.
📩 Please respond if you think you might be part of my story.

Thank you for reading, sharing, and helping us hold onto hope.
With love, light, and golden strength—
Dexter 🐾

Grass always ripped up?
Anyone with two dogs have trouble getting grass to grow that isn’t immediately torn up? Does sod work or last? We’re struggling here and so far all our attempts have failed. Thought I’d ask yall for advice before investing in more seed or sod.

Leash Recommendations for a Strong Puller?
Hey y’all!
My dog is always pulling—just like his mom and all his siblings—so I’m starting to think it’s just in his DNA, no matter how much I train him. Anyway! I’m looking for recommendations on a good retractable leash and a stretchable leash that won’t hurt him if he pulls. Thanks in advance!
P.S. I love seeing all your dogs! 🐕

Switching food
Would love some advice! My 11 month old golden has slowly developed a distaste for her food. It all started when she had her first heat, which was at the beginning of January. That lasted about a month. Then I believe she may have had a false pregnancy as she developed mammary glands and her “breasts” were quite swollen. Throughout that all she had a lot of mornings where she couldn’t stomach her food. But was fine in the evening. In the last week or so she has started really not wanting her food. At first of if I added her probiotics she would eat it. Then I started having to add other things like a scoop of rice or leftover scrambled egg, crumbled treats. Now, even with all that it’s a struggle to even get her to eat half of it. She’s hungry and happily would eat treats or anything else lol. So I’m not worried about her being sick or in pain. (I’ve had a good look in her mouth too, perfectly healthy).
Right now she is on Purina Pro Plan large breed puppy. I am thinking about switching her to either the sensitive stomach one with salmon. Or maybe switching to Royal Canin (that is her vets top choice). I do not want to do raw. My last golden died of heart failure from the grain free food I thought was healthiest, so this time I really want to just follow what the vets are recommending.
Side note, for her first 6 months of life she had chronic diarrhea. So I am nervous about the switch. She can not handle beef at all, pure beef treats give her instant diarrhea. I usually stick to pure chicken treats and sweet potato treats.
Thanks for reading!!

8months and still uncontrollable biting
Running out of ideas here.
I’ve got an 8 month old English cream. Ever since he was a puppy is been uncontrollably biting. He’s obviously lost all his sharp baby teeth, now he’s got blunt teeth that just bruise.
He gets plenty of walks (usually 2-3 miles a day), plenty of sleep (partially due to him going into a Kennel because he won’t stop biting).
He has plenty of chew toys, both in and outside the kennel, eats somewhat fine (usually eats just one meal a day, likes to skip breakfast but is at a healthy weight).
We went out of town and had a local trainer watch him for 2 days. She recognized we weren’t exaggerating the amount of mouthing he does and she even had to kennel him several times.
What else can I do here? Honestly, none of the family likes being around this dog because he can’t figure out how to refrain from the biting. We try redirecting with training, treats, putting other toys in his face/mouth, but he just continuously ignores and bites. I was just outside with him trying to play some evening fetch/train where I tell him to sit prior to throwing and he just goes straight for my arms, refuses to sit. Throwing the toy is more of a “fine just go away and don’t attack me!”
