Discussion Why is it that every harry potter character gets married to their high school bf/gf?
Don't you guys think its weird that everyone marries who they met in high school in the wizarding world? Hermione marries Ron, and Harry marries Ginny. Do their lives just end after Hogwarts? We haven't seen anyone who has met anyone else at their jobs or just out on the street? They all fall in love in high school and stay "betrothed." Isn't it weird?

Misc First time reading GoF and my jaw dropped reading this
"It is Uranus, my dear,” said Professor Trelawney, peering down at the chart.
“Can I have a look at Uranus too, Lavender?” said Ron.

Discussion Why Mrs Weasley?
Can someone explain to me why a witch and a SAHM couldn’t whip up a decent pair of dress robes for Ron? I know she made that ugly dress poor Jenny had to wear, but at the very least she could have taken off that tatty lace and taken away the “Aunt Tessy” smell from Ron’s robes. Or resize Mr. Weasley’s dress robes to fit Ron for the Yule ball. For that matter, couldn’t she have done a spell to smarten up all the used robes her kids had to wear?

Discussion What would Amortentia smell like to you?
"Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in the world. It is distinctive for its mother-of-pearl sheen, and steam rises from the potion in spirals. Amortentia smells different to each person, according to what attracts them."
for me, it could smell like:
- freshly-mowed grass (football/soccer)
- wood polish (piano)
- new parchment (books)
- art supplies: paint, marker, etc. (art)
- strawberries
what would Amortentia smell like to you? :)

Discussion Unpopular opinion: I don't like book Ginny. She is one of Rowling's most underdeveloped side characters
Movie Ginny was bland, but it's not like book Ginny was a very nuanced character with layers.
Rowling is adept at writing memorable side characters- The Twins, Luna, Neville etc and showcasing their talents or journey beautifully. She even gives Neville an arc of his own.
She failed to do that with Ginny in my opinion.

Discussion Why did Voldemort use Nagini to kill Snape?
The death of Snape has always seemed hugely brutal. But I don’t quite get why Voldemort used Nagini.
Voldemort kills Snape to make sure he has control of the wand (obviously he’s wrong, but that’s the purpose). Why would he risk using Nagini, potentially not personally defeating Snape, and not gaining the Elder Wand’s power?
I also feel like Voldemort values Snape enough to not give him a horrific death. But, that’s more a personal opinion than anything.
(I’m just rewatching DH2 now, currently only annual re-read but haven’t got to DH yet, so sorry if I’m misremembering the books.)

Question Harry using crucio in order of the phoenix
When Harry casts the Cruciatus Curse on Bellatrix, she tells him he has to mean it—that he must truly want to cause pain. But didn’t Harry want to hurt her? After all, she had just killed Sirius, and he was clearly furious with her.

Currently Reading HBP Hermione
I am on chapter 21 of HBP and I just gotta say I am so tired of Hermione and her harping on Harry. Hadn’t they made it this far together? Why is she doubting his every suspicion in this book? Is it just because she’s jealous of his HBP potions book/performance?
Is there a greater picture happening in this book, such as, leading the reader to also follow along with strictly Harry because he is the only one to fulfill the prophecy? It seems he doesn’t get to depend on his friends very much during this book.
I loved BA Hermione in GoF bring her back please, haha.

Discussion Do you think Hogwarts had a facial hair policy for students?
Genuine question here! Google tells me that: “whether facial hair is allowed in UK schools depends on the school's policies, and can vary from public to private schools. Some schools may allow facial hair for sixth formers or for religious reasons, while others may require students to be clean shaven.”
That was already a surprise to me because, not being from the UK, I never even considered that school regulations could prevent a post-pubescent male student from growing their facial hair (that’s not a thing where I’m from, either in public or private schools). I do wonder if that’s also a thing in Hogwarts, though.
So, In DH, Fleur’s parents give Harry an enchanted shaver as a birthday gift, and that was the first acknowledgment that Harry, as a teenager way past puberty, would indeed have to shave (and had to be shaving regularly for years, though the books didn’t mention it) to keep the clean-shaven look we always get in the book illustrations.
In the HP movies, I remember every single male student as being clean shaven (Viktor Krum being an exception, but he was a foreigner). The books rarely feature a description of a character’s facial hair unless it’s relevant to their characterization, and I honestly don’t remember a Hogwarts student being described as spotting facial hair.
So either all male students weren’t interested in experimenting with their looks, or maybe some school policy required them to shave periodically. What do you think?

Discussion Do you guys think that wizards partake in muggle foods/amenities?
Since the wizarding world is essentially embedded into the muggle one, wouldn't a wizard pass by muggle shops some days and be like "hmmm... Looks cool!"
The muggle gadgets like headphones and watches might get a little wonky, but other things like candy, soda, chips, shampoo, lotion, clothes, shoes, etc would be ok.
I think that purebloods might be averse to it, but probably not half-bloods.
I think if I were a wizard, I'd go for the Diet Coke first!
This is so stupid hahaha, but thoughts?

Question Do you even need to compete in the first two tasks to win the Tri Wizard Tournament?
Hey Harry Potter fans,
Question for you Harry Potter experts. First off, I haven't read all the books yet, I'm working my way through them, but have watched the movies a lot and love the series. If this is explained in the books, I'll be happy to go read up on them.
But in the Tri Wizard Tournament, I believe, you can just skip the first two challenges and you'll be good to still compete in the final one if you want.
If you don't compete in the first one, you don't get the clue for the second one. But you can still compete in the second one. And we saw that in the second challenge, that one of the contestants didn't complete the task but was able to go into the final challenge, just in last place. But considering all the contestants bumped into each other in the maze, it ultimately didn't matter at what time they entered the maze.
Therefore you didn't need to compete in the first two challenges in the tri wizard tournament.
Was a bit vague with all the stuff there because I didn't want to spoil it for someone who for whatever reason loves Harry Potter enough to go to the subreddit, but not enough to watch the movies or read the books.
Just curious if to hear your thoughts on this.

Discussion Recently revisited the series
Recently re-read/listened the series on audible. Crazy how when I first read the series, I was not as moved as I was this time around. I found myself on the verge of tears at Harry's inner dialogue most times.
Obviously there are loads of issues with this series but I don't think that takes away from how much it meant to me when I first read it. IMHO it holds up.

Discussion Harry Potter Extended editions
So, I been rewashing the Harry Potter movies on peacock and peacock edits in almost all the deleted scenes into them and is as far as I know the only way to watch all eight exentended Harry Potter movies.
It is definitely a bit taboo especially with how the edited the 7th movies opening but I want it to my definitive way to watch the movies. Is there any blue ray collection that has the movies as peacock has them?

I was rereading the Deadly hallows -book, and upon reading the part in which Nagini is puppeting Bathilda, I started wondering if that is the singular most disturbing event in the series. Which part traumatized you?

Question Where did Harry live after book 7?
Is there any information on where Harry lived right after the seventh book? I don’t mean 19 years later, I am wondering what he did like the next day, and for the next few years before he married Ginny. I have just assumed he went to live with the Weasleys but I wasn’t sure if there was any confirmed lore anywhere.

Discussion Harry isn't the most observant character. What B-Plots and world building would you like to see in the TV Show? Spoiler
For me:
- Fred & George adventures would make good B Plots.
- B Plots from teachers points of view would be interesting.
- Hagrid won the dragon egg gambling at the Hogs Head - is Hagrid a regular gambler? A big winner or loser usually?
What would you want to see explored?

Question If Harry Potter‘s cloak was one of the Deathly Hallows how could Mad Eye see through it?
I’m listening to the audio books and am in book 7 and the cloak is described as making the wearer truly invisible, giving constant and impenetrable concealment, no matter what spells are casted at it. But Mad Eye or rather Barty as Mad Eye could see it when Snape was looking for Harry. How? I mean the cloak should be “invisible” even to death
