Please suggest some good horror movies like Vanishing or Final Destination. I dont not enjoy ghost or zombie movies as they don't scare me.

We like (not love) blumhouse and Wan, definitely love quirky dark comedy (yule log is a fave) but we're also looking to get some scares in, and would definitely prioritize something along the lines of A24's more serious horror content.

Going to the movies at the local regal theater. It's also fine if we don't go and save money because all these are stinkers. Just looking for honest recs from those who've seen em.

i’ve been looking for horror movies that me and my friend can watch, however she’s super uncomfortable with any self harm or the use of blades. She was fine watching Scream, so if there’s any use of knives or blades it has to be on that level. Thank you!!

I recently watched Death of a Unicorn and it reminded me of this recent trend in horror cinema to have foreshadowing or characterisation be conveyed through the main characters accidentally hitting an animal with their car.

I was thinking Get Out, Sissy and Talk to Me being the recent films to specifically do this, but I'm curious as to if there's loads of other examples in this genre in particular. Death of a Unicorn isn't a horror movie consistently but it homages horror movies quite a lot and plenty of scenes invoke it via jump scares or attack sequences. So I almost counts, but it also bases the entire movie around it rather than just doing it and moving on, so it's different.

I know Cursed counts, though obviously that's again a film where it kicks off the plot rather than being used in a less direct way.

And believe it or not, Snow White is not Rachel Zegler's worst movie!

The first twenty minutes were promising, with some good lines and some great gore, but then all of a sudden it became a Limp Bizkit video. I'M NOT KIDDING! Fred Durst shows up playing himself, from twenty-five years ago despite the fact he doesn't look anything like he did twenty-five years ago, and everyone starts singing Limp Bizkit songs! Are you shitting me!?

And they kept calling him by his whole name, Fred Durst, I guess to remind the audience it was really him. In the middle of a fight, chaos panic, here they are screaming, "Hey! Fred Durst! Watch out!"

I won't give you any spoilers because I can't, I didn't make it to the end. I gave up when someone pulled a guitar out of seemingly nowhere and accompanied Fred on a Bizkit song in an effort to inspire everyone to fight back against the evil machines.

I could go on, but for the sake of my own mental well being, I won't.

I watched the ring yesterday. My TV has never had any problems, occasionally I have to reset the Roku device but it's been running totally normal all week. Well when I put on the ring, and the scene comes on where tape is playing, when Anna turns from facing the mirror/wall to the camera, my TV screen started moving frame by frame. It was totally silent, and I had never seen the movie before so I thought this was just how it went!! Finally after a good 30 seconds of delayed frame by frame action, my TV poops itself and totally exits the movie. Screen went black for 30 seconds before bringing me back to roku home page. Fuckin spooky. I get the movie back up and running, and rewind to just before the tape begins. I am able to watch it and without any lagging. Then, about 20 seconds after the tape ends, my buddy called my phone and I nearly shot myself. Sounds made up but I swear!!! Made me laugh at how easily I got spooked after all these years of horror movies.

Ps the tape is way fuckin scarier when she moves frame by frame lol

I'm looking for some recent movies to watch, I prefer horror but thrillers are good too. I know of some titles that have released this year (Wolf Man, Heart Eyes, Companion, etc) but I'm not sure how good or well received any of them have been, so I'm wondering what people have been enjoying so far. I never go into movies with expectations and based off the trailer I knew this would be a nonserious, campy slasher flick. I had so much fun watching this movie and I genuinely could not stop laughing.

Barely legal teens returning back to summer camp with a 24 year old guy who never made it in life. The acting was mediocre, as were the lines being delivered, but somehow it all worked. Even the scene between the first two campers, Jason and Demi, had the most absolute lack of chemistry it had me laughing way too much. Scenes that probably weren’t meant to be funny just were because of Fred Hechinger being an awkward, dork. The vanity of Billy Bryk’s character made this movie. Almost everything that came out of his mouth had me trying to contain my laughter.

Despite being as observant as I am, Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk did an incredible job of making me completely forget about characters that were detrimental to the plot. Cause it wasn’t until halfway to the point of finding out who the killer was that I remembered the characters even existed. Also for this being a directional debut, I was impressed with the cinematography of some scenes. Specifically where it kept going between shots of Jason chopping wood and the killer slaughtering someone. I will say that because of the rating, I expected there to be more gruesome kills. But even though there wasn’t, they didn’t look cheap and shitty which was nice.

All in all, I wouldn’t pay to see this movie again but I would definitely watch it simply for the corny one liners and the laughs. It was so incredibly stupid! I look forward to seeing if these two will do something else in the future because with the right cast and budget they could have the potential to deliver a better movie.

Here come the downvotes but I’m late to the party with ’The Heretic’, I watched it yesterday evening and tbh was blown away by how intricate the script was and how I was on the edge of my seat all the way through!

Anyone else got any thoughts? Would love to know what you guys thought of it

As the title suggest I've been hunting off and on for this D- grade horror movie that for the life of me and my friend we can not remember the title of and I'm hoping maybe someone here has also seen it and remembers it (and I'm not just hunting fever dream movie) I wanna find it again and show it to our broader friend group who thinks we made it up.

Plot as best as I remember it:

The main character buys a new house, and the house in question was made from the wood of the Amityville house! It was a poorly shot film that looks like the small cast probably did on a 20$ camera but i remember the basement of the house having left over wood in it and this stupid after effects ghost in black hovering near it. The actress who played the daughter of the main character seemed way to old for her role of young-ish daughter and I think like half way through the movie they lose the plot and it becomes less about the house wood and more about this silly ghost.

Im sorry if i lack more details than that.. but its really all I remember. If anyone has seen or knows of this.. please let me know the title! Thanks!

So I am a WWE fan and I was playing 2k25. There is a scene in the MyRise story mode where you do some supernatural stuff to mess with your opponents. After the match, you speak to CM Punk about it.

He then makes a reference about a house he remodeled and some strange things happening on the third floor.

I immediately knew he was referencing a low budget horror film he was in called "Girl on the Third Floor." He was credited under his real name Phil Brooks.

Has anyone else seen the film before? It's not very memory worthy but I remember it just being OK. I literally only watched it a few years back because I saw that the trailer had CM Punk in it. And I knew his real name was Phil. Lol

Did any of you who played the game catch this reference also? I just thought I'd share for any fellow Wrestling/Video Game fans. I like when 2 mediums crossover like this and it was pretty unexpected.

Just this line alone convinced me that she does not do it. It was a happy ending.

Just watched these two movies back to back by coincidence and just wanted to share some thoughts.

I unexpectedly really loved Smile 2. Such good horror that didn’t feel cheap with its jump scares. It was such a great allegory for trauma and PTSD, all carried by my new favorite actress Naomi Scott. However, the ending felt a little lackluster for all of the insane buildup. Yes the monster in all his gory glory was great, but it ended a little fast in my opinion.

On the flip side I kind of hated The Substance overall. It had great potential and an interesting plot but it overall felt pretty tacky with a shallow message (except the date prep scene, which was very hard hitting and kept the balance of disturbing realism).

I think the grand finale of The Substance’s gore fest was a little unearned, and the wonky buildup made it feel silly instead of idk, fantastical horror.

I think the over the top blood spraying across the audience would have suited the finale of Smile 2 much more, and after the reaction shot of the bloody audience we could have seen Skye in a much more theatrically butchered state instead of just a mic to the head (not full Substance Cronenberg but something more than head bashing. The guy with the smashed face had a much scarier look so why reuse that type of death for an even more down played look as your finale?)

I'm only on episode 2, but is it just me or is yellowjackets a re-imagining of Lord of the flies. Granted there's more to it than the "parent" story such as including "where are they now" into the story, but I'm definitely getting Lord of the flies vibe.

so I first watched Wrong Turn 2 and 3 on TV first time some years ago. and i love the 2nd title and also the 3rd one (even if it is not considered a good one?).

the 2nd one has nearly everything in it, it doesnt take itself seriously and goofy characters, the action is fast paced and it never gets boring. i also like the 3rd one it is like a b-action movie mixed with the horror theme from wrong turn, sadly it was a bit of a one man show...

(i rewatched those 2 chronologically to refresh my mind and what fun the 2nd one is!)

then i watched the first one, it was more serious but still not too serious as you could already foresee who dies etc. but i liked it still but somehow it wasnt as impactful as the other two and i found it very generic somehow but still a good title!

onto the 4th one. this one was more serious again after 3 but somehow i found the villains very lame and boring and the horror side was also kinda boring, the torture scene was more disturbing and i had the feeling they wanted to get more serious and disgusting in some scenes, still the execution overall was still kinda strange..... the ending kinda was unexpected and surprising, so i would rewatch 1-3 again before this one but yeah it is ok.

Ok on to the 5th one. I kinda thought the setup might be nice, some festival, in a small town, can be fun just having three fingers & co do their work. and the beginning was promising, then oh my.... the area was boring and the progression also dragging.... some of the kills were just no fun but straight disgusting.... i dont like that the series seems to try to implement more torture and disgusting long kill scenes....

overall, kinda ok but boring, somehow i liked the 4th one a bit more minus the torture scene.

maybe for some better but i think the 6th one is the most boring and uninteresting one of them all. the story and the whole family stuff ahh come on, the movie starts so late with some action and all the blabla and the main protagonist switches to his family is so unbelievable, the whole progression is boring and the kills again kinda just to disgust the viewer more and more and three fingers & co had just too little showtime. such a boring movie, like it was a total fanmade/out of place Wrong Turn title.

i didnt watch Foundation yet and wont i guess, too many titles on my list... and i normally dont do it but it is so uninteresting after i read it is not really connected or not connected at all i watched a spoiler review and yeah not interested at all.

you know for me it could have gone the Leprechaun way, the final destination series or whatever, having not the headless direction being sometimes more disgusting, serious and then sometimes unwanted funny and so on, just some settings like Wrong Turn 2 and 3 and Wrong turn in space, in war, or combined with Zombies, whatever, 1000 times more enjoyable and stupid fun i guess than what they released.

it seems nothing will beat Wrong Turn 2 and 3 so far, really love the goofiness of these 2 :).

i didnt want to recap the movies as everyone know them i guess who reads this, just point some overall opinions on them.

if you look for the more serious and enjoyable movie i would say Wrong Turn 1 is the best but for overall Fun i like Wrong Turn 2 the most.

I watched the first one and there wasn’t really a clear story so I was wondering if I need to watch all of them to watch V/H/S Beyond or if I can just watch it as a standalone film.

It apparently got mostly positive reviews from its premeire at SXSW festival. The trailer was a bit campy but from the director's past writing or director credits from memorable horrors over the years like Disturbia, Paranormal Activity Marked Ones, Freaky, and the Happy Death Day pair, I generally seem to like his more lighthearted horror with emphasis on comedy. Sidenote, Death of a Unicorn was an ehh for me so my only horror interests this month are this movie after that one didn't nail the landing for me.

What Movie/TV show had a sole survivor you didn't like?

My vote goes to Stretch in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2". Hear me out, I love the Texas Chainsaw movies and the first movie will always be my favorite and I have watched all the originals as a kid and loved them, as well as the 2003 and 2006 remakes, but after doing a rewatch of the original movies, Stretch from TCM 2 just bugged me. From basically standing there and just screaming for most of the chase scenes, to literally SURVIVING the first time the Sawyers attack the radio station, then being like,

"I can't let them get away.."

It's like she was asking to be attacked or killed, and to be frank, I kinda hoped she was, the over the top screaming reminded me of Carly from the original wrong turn 😭.

The ending was a nice touch however, having a survivor do the iconic Chainsaw dance instead of Leatherface.
