This would have been flipped on proper appeal. I know that because I self-represented myself in lawsuits before. You can't side with one legal opinion of one side without hearing the other. Everyone is entitled to their day in court and to present their evidence contradictory and supporting. This is an abject failure of the legal system.

PHX pd and the whole judiciary system in PHX is notoriously crooked, corrupt and biased. There was a case where a physically disabled unarmed man was tased and beaten on suspicion of being an armed robber. While store employees were telling the officers that he was innocent and they have the wrong guy during the whole incident they still arrested him and charged him with battery on a cop and resisting arrest. The dude was a totally different race from the guy who suspect the store literally black(innocent) and white(suspect). Going up in PHX I’ve seen police do some shady stuff out in the open without a care in the world now with body cameras it’s slowed em down but it won’t stop them. Don’t get me wrong there is a lot of good officers in PHX pd but the bad ones outshine em which is a shame.

It sounds fucked up, but there is an actual explanation. Everyone is talking about the six hours he was in custody, but the fact is the damage had been done literally 2-DAYS before the parents called for a welfare check. He was shot and left for dead on the 23rd of December, and only found when his parents called in a welfare check because he failed to show up for Christmas. There is no indication that the final six hours would have made any difference since the bullet had been lodged in his brain for over 40 hours already, and his symptoms suggest he had already sustained brain damage upon the initial shooting.

It doesn't leave them without the opportunity to pursue legal action. They have to appeal to a higher court. You can appeal a dismissal.

Also, it's very unlikely the judge dismissed it because one medical expert said something. That's just not how cases work. Expert testimony has to be admitted, each side gets experts, evidence is weighed, etc. It's not like, "Hey, Judge, I think the interrogation didn't hurt him." "Oh, ok, I'll dismiss the case."

That's not the read I got. The whole interrogation is wild. The cop knows something is off because the information he's getting is full of odd gaps and confusion. The kid is in the house for days with the dead body of his GF and his recollections are sporadic. So the cop figures the kid is lying, having a mental breakdown or on drugs, because there's no sense to any of it. Then the cop has a lightbulb moment. He leans in and sees a hole in the midst of all the bruising, but its scabbed over. It dawns on him that this kid has a bullet in his head and has been talking this whole time after being shot in the face days ago. Crazy case.

Some of the trainees hesitate and question the instructor during a simulation of a dangerous encounter with an unstable, possibly armed subject. The first instincts of the trainees are to hold their ground and try talking her down, because they don't want to shoot a woman who might just be having a really, really bad day.

The instructor loudly reprimands them for not emptying their pistol into the lady. Something about endangering their own life and the lives of their fellow officers. They are taught to prioritize themselves.

The people who are supposed to protect you are trained to think of themselves as more worthy of life than you.

One of my favorite psychological studies involves testing our ability to spot lies.

You take a regular person, show them a video of someone speaking, and ask them to mark when they believe they are being untruthful. We're actually pretty good at it, which makes sense, because a lot of our socialization is about learning to recognize patterns in behavior, even if you don't realize you're doing it.

Then take someone who has specialized training in spotting deception and show them the same video, and they will perform worse than a regular person.

Because all of that "liars tend to look up and to the right because they are accessing the creative part of their brain" nonsense misleads you, and distracts you from your innate ability to spot liars.

Isn’t the god of the Old Testament exactly that kind of lunatic? Jesus is more chilled out but we already know that Christians only care about living up to Yahweh’s backward-ass example.

Old testament god is just a deity based on older religions' having a diety (among others, before monotheism became popular) that basically hated humans. Killing humanity with floods because the asshole god feels like it is pretty standard for the religions Christianity and Judaism are descended from. Oh, and there's always a lesser deity/angel/spirit that warns one human and gives them very specific blueprints for a wooden ship and to gather two of each animal to wait out the world being flooded by sending a bird to retrieve a piece of grass/leaf to show the waters are receding. Christianity is just the latest Disney remake of something that's been copied dozens or hundreds of times already.

Americans have become adept at fantasizing that we are the protagonists in our adventure movie. We don't think that we're poor, we're "temporarily embarrassed millionaires." We won't be treated badly by cops, that's the bad people.

We've been lulled into stupidity by decades of self-delusion and make-believe.

And what’s weirder, is that none of us voters are doing anything to improve the situation.

Both parties support cops almost without question.

When the people protest against police brutality we are then brutalized by police, and even so-called "progressives" still invite those same cops to their events and glorify them as heroes.

Homie they can't and won't do nothing to a convicted felon making a mockery of our constitution and the balance of powers. Dude is legit crooked on a global scale and all of our "systems" to prevent this are being operated by people who are just sitting back.

Same. My wife and I were on it immediately. He was clearly exhibiting some concussion symptoms, but the idiot cop was too busy being a persecuting jackass to see it.

Showed it to some friends, and they acted just like the cop, picking apart his delirious argument, hungry for blood. Guess it's not that obvious to everyone.

Ijust watched it myself and the first question after reading him his rights they ask is "what's the highest grade you completed in school?"

and Ryan says 'i don't know'

cop then asks "you don't know the highest grade you went through?"

Ryan says "8th."

Cops asks "8th? 8th grade? Did you graduate?"

Ryan answers "Ya."

Cop "do ya.. do ya have a ged?"

Ryan "i don't know"

He's not being sarcastic or combative. You're so right. It's immediately obvious something is wrong. Jesus Christ.

Here's images of his face just before the interrogation. I believe the wound on the left side of his nose is the entrance wound and it traveled through his nose and into his cheek at nearly the same location in the opposite side of his nose. Thats what I'm assuming based on the look of his left eye, the paramedics in the interrogation. The op of this thread said he was shot twice but i don't recall hearing that in the podcasts I've listened to or news stories I've read that cover it.
