Here I am in the bathroom (cleaned sink don’t worry) and next to me in the sink is 2 sharpening stones (400/1000, 3000/8000) and my gf walks in and looks completely baffled that I had 2 “rocks” in the sink.. realized I forgot to tell her I got 2 wet stone sharpening stones and they need to sit in water before use.. now she thinks I’m into rocks and stones and whatever.. what an interesting way to start my morning lmfao.

Modding Shipwrecked my copper scales, I think they turned out well.

Just wanted to show off my attempt at a shipwreck patina on my copper CRK scales by Justin David @patriot_knifemods.

He did great work, also did my thumbstuds, backspacer, and lanyard plug, all in copper.

I think it turned out pretty cool, added a matte clear coat on top which kinda took away a lot of the blue, but gave it a nice look.

Love the action on this knife, super smooth. They nailed their Duralock crossbar system. It's tuned about as perfect as you can get. For the price, materials, and made in USA It's one of my favorite knives. For the price, it's hard to top!

Question Bel Air Question

First, I own a couple Iridiums and love them, and want to try the Bel Air. I haven't heard anything bad about them, but between these 2, the grey and the carbon fiber, does anyone have any likes/dislikes about either? The carbon fiber will cost about $40 more. Any input is appreciated, thank you.

Question What's your favourite cheap knife

Post image
117 Upvotes

For me it's the Opinel No 7. I don't know how popular these knives are in the US but in France they are insanely popular.

Such a great knife for the money. The handle is made from beechwood, but there are other versions with walnut and oak etc. Razor sharp and holds an edge well. After use I give it a few passes on a ceramic sharpener and it will glide through the lightest paper.

It has a rotating collar to lock the blade in place when using it and can be used when the blade is folded to lock it in place.

$12 is what it costs. Amazing value and there aren't a lot of knives as good as this for as cheap as this is.

Follow up from my previous post on the anodized color I first tried. I wasn't keen on the color so I went back to anodizing board and came up with this blue/purple color. I think it looks much better !!

Question What is this type of knife for? Thrifted it to cut soap with. (Knives are not allowed in the "what is this thing" sub, I was recommended to ask here)

Bought this knife at a thrift store to cut soap with. I am wondering what type of knife this actually is? At first I thought it might be for opening envelopes, but the blade is too wide and short for that I believe.

The sharp edge is rounded instead of "pointed" so it's a little dull but still has a sharpness to it. It has a logo on it that says "Atkinson Bros; 🐻 in mind; Stainless Steel". The whole knife is about 29.5 cm (11.5'') long. Medium banana for scale.

Also I was wondering if it's a good idea for me to grind the knife to a better point to make it sharper? I guess it depends on what purpose it's originally made for, if the material is made to hold an edge or not
