2-3 weeks of daily sunshine in March/April in London feels as rare as winning the lottery

Upvotes

I can’t believe this is happening i feel we are being gaslit to feel that this phenomenon is normal and people aren’t screaming their lungs out enough that this is a super rare event and how lucky they are..

I feel bad for not going out daily to make the most of the sun and have constant FOMO.

I know it’s been 2 weeks of pure sunshine here and it looks like we are getting a 3rd week of that this week!

Can you recommend activities to do? Every day trip to any Central London park feels fresh and new now

Ideas If you are feeling invisible,

All you have to do is hang around a food stall or independent ethnic restaurant, and casually look at the menu sign (optional). You will immediately feel seen and acknowledged. You're welcome

Easy hikes in and near London?

Upvotes

With it getting sunny and sort of warm, I’d be really keen to do a few hikes. I haven’t been much into this in the past so want to start with relatively easy-moderate level ones. I did the Chess Valley hike recently and that was gorgeous and a lovely route. Any similar recommendations? x

Why do so many south Asian men wear football shirts on a daily basis.

Upvotes

One thing I’ve noticed in London is I see a lot of Indian and Pakistani guys wearing football shirts even when there’s not a game on. I haven’t noticed this as much with any other ethic group.

Any particular reason?

Brixton Water Line pro-choice counter protesters - anyone know who they are?

For the last month or so there’s been a group of anti-abortion protesters stationed at the Brixton Water Lane crossing, for reasons I’m unclear about.

Anyway, this morning I was very heartened to see a group of pro-choice counter protesters had pitched up in that same spot to stage a small demonstration of their own. Unfortunately, I was already running late so couldn’t go and show my support for them and by the time I got home, they’d gone and the original anti-abortion group had pitched back up.

Anyway, does anyone know who the counter protesters from this morning were and if they’re part of a local political or politically-minded group? With things as they are at the moment gestures wildly at the news I want to get more involved with causes I care about so would love to find out more information about groups in my local area that could facilitate that.

Communal BBQ experiences

With the sunny weather over the past few days I’ve started looking forward to a good BBQ this Summer. Then I remembered Im in the same position as lots of Londoners in that I don’t have a garden, I don’t have a BBQ, and also don’t have lots of friends to organise a park BBQ with.

Are there any parks in London during the Summer where people host good quality BBQ food (not gourmet / fancy, just on an actual BBQ and not those supermarket trays) where you could go alone or with a few friends with a picnic blanket, and just buy burgers / hot dogs etc, and just chill? Even better if it’s in public space and you can bring your own alcohol, but not if it becomes a place where too many people get rowdy.

If this doesn’t exist already, how come?

Ticket giveaway - COMPLETE! Free cinema ticket - picturehouse central

I’ve got a ticket to the 16:00 screening of Memories of Murder (dir. Bong Joon-ho) at picturehouse central which I sadly won’t be able to use due to a nasty cold :(

If you’d like it, lemme know and I’ll send the qr code over. It is genuinely one of my top films and I highly recommend!!!

Thanks :)

Why do trains to Europe leave at St. Pancrass and not say Victoria or Waterloo Station?

It seems weird to me to travel all the way around the city instead of leaving from the south side...

On the hunt for good chimichangas

In a funk and need to stress eat. Have a very specific craving.

Where can I find good chimichangas in and around London?

For the uninitiated, chimichangas are deep fried burritos - they're crispy, cheesy and saucy. Heaven on a plate 😍

Hammersmith tube

WHY does part of Hammersmith station that both the circle line / Hammersmith & city lines operate out of never leave on time?

It’ll always state this tube is departing in 1 minute from platform 3 but it’s still sat there 7 minutes later and a different platform will leave first?

Ultimately I know 7 minutes isn’t a huge amount of time but it’s bloody annoying for no reason

6 April 2025 - Greenwich Park cherry tree blossom still not out but getting there

Here are some photographs of the emerging (but not 'out') blossoms in Greenwich Park and St John's Park (Blackheath Standard, St John the Evangelist church). The one in the Flower Garden is about 40% open, others are catching up. Features 4 cherry tree sites and the crab apples. All pics taken today 6 April 2025.

The Greenwich Cherry Blossom on 'cherry tree row' (near Elizabeth Gate) isn't really open yet.
Flower Garden, near the Ignatius Sancho café and loos by the Vanbrugh Gate entrance.
Lovely trees at St John the Evangelist getting ready to bloom.
Close up of some of the emerged blossoms at St John's.

Me and my housemates fancy trying our hands at some dance classes so looking for recommendations especially ones that are in east/north, not too expensive and a bug emphasis on beginner. We were thinking salsa but are pretty open to whatever, thanks !
