Wealthy areas to walk round?

I have a bit of a morbid fascination with the ultra wealthy, I'm talking estates where the roads are private access with ridiculous houses. I don't think it's a very healthy way to spend my time but I find the disgusting display of money strangely mesmerising, and I like to walk around with my headphones on and just marvel/seethe at it all. After a certain level houses seem to be more of a statement than a place of residence, and that's what I'm after, roads where it's just house after house like that.

So yeah, does anyone have any recommendations for areas near them where there's large residential areas with absolutely ridiculous houses? Not necessarily just central London, anywhere in Greater London.

Specific areas/postcodes would be helpful, rather than just "Richmond".

EDIT: Thanks for the responses all, I'm not a burglar, promise

Culture Best toilet in London?

Just been to the toilet at the Royal college of Physicians and found it quite a nice experience.

So I'm wondering, what's the nicest toilet you've used in London without having to pay for the experience?

Plastic bags such as LDPE-04 and LDPE-05. The local council does not recycle those - does anyone know which supermarkets will recycle them?

What are the best current, individually written (no companies) pub quizzes in London?

Nowadays with the proliferation of pub quiz companies in the market (e.g. Inquizition, Redtooth) it's hard to get a gauge of which pubs run decent, custom written pub quizzes. Seems like it would be useful to crowdsource this information.
Some of the best non company-written quizzes that I know of are:

  • White Lion, Finsbury Park, Tuesday (cryptic, long, only connect)
  • Prince of Wales, Highgate, Tuesday (not been but told it's the benchmark for fiendish quizzes)
  • Sheephaven Bay, Camden, Monday (written by the pub and with an Irish bent)

Other options for decent tailor-made quizzes are the Quiz League of London (various venues, Tuesdays) and Paul Guided-Missile's Music Quiz (The Lexington, Kings Cross, Mondays).

I sadly take this route regularly and it hasn't been cleaned in many months and it gets worse the more you walk around the other side of RV which is not pictured as there were people I didn't want to capture.

I couldn't quite figure out who is responsible for it. It's a bridge the goes over the DLR line between Canning Town and Royal Victoria and there's rubbish along both sides of the track. Is this all the Councils responsibility to take care of or mix of TFl/Council?

Question Lumber points: what are they?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Within some of Islington’s finest estates I often encounter “lumber points”.

What are they exactly? I’m assuming a relic from a by gone era of pea soupers and coal / wood burning?

There are always signs saying “no fly tipping”, yet there is always fly tipping.

Why don’t they just get rid of them entirely?

Started a Free Peer-Led Trauma Support Group (In-Person, Monthly)

Hey everyone,
I’ve started a free, peer-led support group for trauma recovery, open to anyone navigating PTSD, CPTSD, or any trauma-related journey. We meet twice a month in person—once for a support circle, and once for a more creative art-based circle.

Depending on what the group wants, we may also include book discussions, themed activities, or anything that helps us feel seen, supported, and connected.

This is a not-for-profit initiative, just something I felt was deeply needed, and maybe you or someone you know would find it helpful.

You can find us on Meetup here:
👉 Peer-led CPTSD, PTSD & Trauma Recovery Group

Feel free to share or DM if you have any questions. You’re not alone 💛

Serious replies only Went to A&E after eating food from Harrods – trying to see if it’s an isolated case

I visited Harrods on 4 April around 20:15 (based on my receipt) and bought the following from the food hall:

  • Prawn cocktail sandwich
  • Croissant
  • Caramel custard

The next day (5 April), I developed severe diarrhoea (watery, about four times a day) and ended up going to A&E, where I was diagnosed with viral gastroenteritis.

I called Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council to report a food safety issue, but they said they couldn’t act over the weekend. I also tried submitting a report through the Food Standards Agency's self-service form (https://myrbkc.rbkc.gov.uk/forms/report-problem/food-safety/) , but I couldn't complete it due to an issue with the date format.

I suspect the cause may be the food from Harrods because I was staying at a friend’s place, and we ate exactly the same things throughout the day until dinner. He didn’t eat the food from Harrods—and he’s completely fine.

Just wondering: has anyone else had similar symptoms after eating at Harrods recently?
