Character Concept I’ve seen a few people mention this but luke cage as vanguard with a passive where although attacks can still damage him however they can’t pierce through and past his body would be sick, Thoughts?

Yes that includes speedos, spandex and leotard. You want money, go to the comics, focus on what actual people want, attractive cool characters that people want to dress as and be.

Discussion Is anyone else getting 4+ dps more often today?

Upvotes

3 games in a row of 4 people insta locking dps and refusing to swap so we end up as 1-4-1 and obviously lose. Then it happened again a couple of games later.

And the thing that really gets me is none of them even try to help with the fking divers constantly going for me as I;m the only supp. They just complain about not getting healed instead. How are so many people this dense?

Played marvel rivals today and TWICE this happened to me. I queue for a game nothing happened and it won’t let me queue. All good i go to the home menu try again and I’m in a match. I play for a bit then whoops in the middle of the game I get thrust into another game. Resulting me in loosing points and getting a penalty.

Discussion I can see Namor becoming a higher ban than Spiderman

Upvotes

This guy is in every single game, has virtually no weakness and his team-ups are the best in the game, not even WS can deal with this abomination landing headshots faster than a Hawkeye putting squids that deal as much dmg as a hero

Question Can battle pass skins be bought later?

Upvotes

It seems like Luna's Flower of Krakoa skin is a luxury battle pass exclusive. If I don't buy the pass, is that skin unavailable to me forever? Even if I have blue units?

Discussion Can someone explain how to properly animation cancel as Captain America?

Upvotes

I've watched some videos, as well as asked random people in game. The videos aren't much help, since they only show how it looks when done properly, not detailing how it's done. Others have said to always hold the sprint button, however all that does is cancel my shield throw. If anyone can explain the timing of the sprint, that would help a lot.

Game Guide Hitting Celestial with my wife the day before our daughter was born! (With a handy guide from someone terrible at shooters)

Introduction!

Currently typing from the table in our hospital room, just wanted to share this fun story with the community as the season comes to an end! I've never been great at shooters, but my wife used to be a top 300 console Overwatch player (Ana main, I just asked her) who fell off that bandwagon as the game quality gradually got worse. We've been looking for a good game to play together for years, and when Rivals came out, we gave it a shot and had a blast.

Playing together became invaluable quality/relaxation time after she got put on bed rest two months ago. As we kept playing and trying to improve, we started to feel like we could hit Celestial before the baby arrived — and we managed to pull it off on Monday night before we headed to the hospital. While hitting a rank in a video game never compares to having a daughter, it is a sweet moment to remind us that our relationship and quality time won't be going away as we add to our family.

Here's my account

And here's hers (with the name picked by our 9 year old)

Also, a fun shout-out to ChoiStreams on Youtube, who played with us through some of our final games on our way out of GM1. (I think you can hear us chatting in some of their recent videos).

Climbing as a First Time Player

My aim is trash. I'm in my 30's. I have no experience playing shooters, or playing competitive team games... but I do generally feel like my game sense is pretty solid, and my ability to think on my feet is decent.

Because her reactions and aim are so good, she felt content to just grab a few characters she liked (mostly Loki) and skill-check teams until it stopped working. Without her experience or skill, I had to figure out a different way to be useful — So, when we started playing together, I experimented with characters, play-styles, and counter-picks. I watched guides on youtube to almost every character, watched streams in my downtime, learned how each character's combos and mechanics function.

I might not be able to singlehandedly absolutely destroy a lobby with an 80% accuracy Hela, but I could learn the fundamentals of the game and try to be a better teammate, so that's what I did.

I learned about controlling space on Vanguards. I learned about off angles and splitting an opposing team's focus. I learned dive mechanics and cooldown management, how to have clean comms with your team and keep morale up. I'd spam characters I didn't know in quick play until I understood how their kits worked, just so that I could understand how to play against them. I watched old overwatch league games and listened to comms. Anything that I could do to gather knowledge, that's what I did.

The further up the ladder we got, the more we found out that I could carry games just by being un-tiltable, by being consistent, by looking for holes in the team comps and looking for answers to the other team's carries. I cannot tell you how many games I've seen lost (or won) because someone's ego stopped them from adapting to someone on the other team who just had their number.

We found a lot of success at the end of the season by combining invisible Woman and Loki — I got to play aggressive in the team, securing picks like a pseudo-duelist, while she played back to keep the team alive if (and when) the other team managed to catch me out. Coordinating our ults got us through countless overtimes, and just being ready to have a game plan with someone else was a massive advantage as we both got better.

I also played a lot of Scarlet Witch.

Practical Climbing Advice

Here are some of the big, specific things that I learned as I went from Diamond to Celestial this season, with links and resources.

  1. Limit your character pool, and have picks that answer counters to your preferred playstyle. While being able to play everything is good, being able to really understand the specifics of a small group of characters enables you to play rock-paper-scissors against the enemy team, and up to Celestial, most players won't be able to deal with this. Take the time to learn specific mechanic interactions with the characters you want to be good at — for example, Spider-man can kill Scarlet Witch during her phase if he's already attached a spider-seeker, but she can survive his attack if she phases during his combo, not before. Scarlet Witch can reliably clear Namor squids from safe angles with her alt-fire, letting you keep flanks clear if your team is playing dive. It doesn't take a ton of time to do this, but the intentional effort will pay off.
  2. Recognize when something isn't working, and mix it up until it does. This match is a great example of this thought process — The other team rolled us through us on our first defense, and they just had our number the entire time with Hawkeye + Squirrel Girl. When we went to offense, we barely took the first point, hit overtime trying to get the second, and then I convinced one of the duelists to swap with me. I got off of "main" (which means the route through the map that the tanks/strategists push), and just went for assassinations on the Hawkeye and SG with Psylocke. They weren't able to find switches quickly enough to counter me before we were pushing the last point. They tried fliers to get out of my range, so I swapped Adam and closed the match in style.
  3. Understand what the weaknesses the opposing teams are, and exploit them. During my climb, I actually ended up playing repeatedly vs this Captain America one-trick (Love you Capi!) — and we pretty reliably beat him when we matched up even though he's a monster on his main pick. Captain America is hugely disruptive, but loses his kill pressure against triple support comps. So, every time we found ourselves against him, we just ran 3x supports. I'd call it out to the team in chat, the team would swap, and then we'd just ignore him all match. You don't have to be a god on certain picks to get huge value from them — characters like Namor, Rocket, Peni, and Scarlet can bring huge value to a team just by letting you stat check someone trying to out-skill you.
  4. Take breaks. Whatever folks say about the matchmaking system, after 2-3 losses in a row, stop playing for the day. Hop on another account. Play quick play. Go for a walk. I cannot emphasize how important it is to just stay relaxed, do your best, and step back from the game when things aren't working out.
  5. Mute liberally. There are plenty of folks who show up to games tilted, and don't let them tilt you. Just don't engage, mute, and do your best.

Specific Climbing Practices

While those are some good general ideas to help you climb, here are some specific things that I did during season 1.5 to help me hit Celestial.

  1. Have one or two "hard-carry", selfish picks to pull out when a game in on the line and you need a clutch factor. I created a fresh alt account and ran (almost) solo Magik only from unranked to Grandmaster in 93 games, which is what my wife and I were playing at when I finished the run. I played to hard flank, slam strategists, learn every matchup even if they were trash (looking at you, Namor + Luna), and then to figure out how to clutch out games by doing whatever was needed to actually get the win. I still don't think of myself as a great duelist player after this, but I do feel like I understand how to exploit mistakes better, identify when someone's playstyle has a weakness, and know what I can do to use it against them. There were a lot of games in the final run through upper GM that got decided by a last minute swap onto a hard-carry pick, and not giving the other team the chance to adapt against it. I'm not saying to play Magik, of course — but sometimes, knowing how to play Iron Fist, Adam Warlock, or Peni can be the difference between a win and a loss.
  2. Watch your replays. When someone beats you, carries a game, or solo-loses a game, take five minutes and go watch from their perspective. What angles did they find on you to get the kills in that final overtime? What did they miss that caused them to throw? Figuring these things out increases your game knowledge, and that's what will get you across the finish line in tough, competitive matches.
  3. Swap proactively. Do not expect your team to know what to do or how to answer what's happening in the match. If you want to win, don't tell someone else what they need to play — play it yourself. If you can't play it yourself, spam the pick in quickplay until you can.
  4. Not everyone is a smurf, and most folks get stuck at a rank and dip below 50% winrate from tilt and clear holes in their game. It's okay to recognize that you need to improve, and just look for small, incremental changes. Aim for one fewer death than average. Look to get slightly more value from your next ult. Try to increase the number of successful dives per death that you can pull off. 51% is enough, in any game, to climb.

I hope this was helpful to those of you looking to make some last minute climbs, and to getting off to a great start next season. My wife and I will probably be around in the comments to answer questions and chat, depending on how much sleep we actually get today.

Good luck, and thanks for reading!

Video Posted this to insta and automatically got targeted with hate :( I just wanted to enjoy and share

Upvotes

I get it she’s one star and doesn’t do « much » but she’s one of my favorites to play as and I’m pretty good with her ult and slipping into groups to get them. The team we were against was putting up an incredible fight and the match was going on for what felt like forever, and I’m the one who finished the match finally with a surprising slip in of my ult so of course I was happy and wanted to post it. I’ll gladly give my insta as well for anyone to be the judge of the comments, (tararaemissu) but I wasn’t posting because of an ego or because I’m some top tier player, but this one girl tried saying I was having an ego, tagged her boyfriend in the chat after lashing at me a few times and he apologized for how she acted and then doubled down to also trash on me, and they admitted to looking up my game account and proceeded to try to blast my low comp rank as if that was supposed to hurt? I don’t play comp a lot I just enjoy the game soooooo I don’t know. I have been going through a lot with my depression and just trying to have some joy, I hadn’t played for a while and hopped on to see if I was still good. I’m so sorry about this ramble and for anyone who watched and read thank you so much, may all of your game matches bring you an epic victory 🫶🏻🍪

Discussion We need a fix for qp

Upvotes

I can't be at my computer all the time and I feel like there's not nearly enough time to go and do something when it comes up for this game. I left for literally 2 minutes to use the bathroom and came back to an hour ban. I just started my first match, how is an hour ban even close to fair? 5 minutes is annoying but a whole hour is beyond that, it's unfair at this point honestly.

At the very least can they make the time to get banned longer than like 20 seconds??

Discussion So when’s Blade releasing?

Upvotes

Can’t wait for the next season to start. A lot of cool changes, a few I think are questionable. But as a tank main can’t wait for Emma and I know Ultron is on a lot of people’s list. But all the hype has got me a feeling like Blades just being forgotten about. Idk not huge into MCU but with the rumor I’ve read about Blades film being cancelled idk, is he just gunna get overlooked? It would be a huge disappointment if after all the teasing they just left him as a model in the Central Park map. Not to mention the implication’s I really don’t even wanna see another DPS but really hope they get him in the game. What y’all think?
