Official response from school President today

To our students,

First and foremost, I would like to apologize for using Facebook to convey this urgent message. Rest assured a formal newsletter will be coming with pertinent updates. We stand by Canada and will not make a habit of conducting announcements such as these through this particular medium. That being said, our commitment to our hardworking student body is our top priority at the time, and we felt that making our position transparent was of utmost importance.

First and foremost, I would like to apologize for the disruption to your exams, classes, and activities caused by ongoing strike. This is not the experience any of you deserve, especially during such a critical time in your academic journey. I want to reassure you that your dedication remains our top priority, and we are actively working to minimize further disruptions and ensure you can complete your exams fairly and without added stress. We are quickly approaching a resolution with all of you in mind.

At the same time, I recognize the right of our faculty and staff to advocate for themselves through lawful strike action. However, I am deeply disappointed that this strike has directly impacted you—the students who are at the heart of this institution. Education is a shared mission, and disruptions like these undermine the collective commitment we all have to your success.

To make things right, the Board of Trustees has made an arrangement with our student body. If your exams or classes were impacted by the disruptions, you can come to the Irish Student Union office dressed as a leprechaun, where you may claim a coupon for 50% off of a McDonald's Shamrock Shake, no questions asked. We hope that by making such a grand gesture that we can start to move on and heal.

Thank you for your patience and resilience, Deep Saini President & vice-chancellor

Premed research

Hi,

I am currently a law student but would like to go to med school. Should i be doing smt law related or med related this summer? Does doing smt med related cancel all of my chances of getting a stage during course au stages?

If i do smt med related (i think i'd prefer), is it too late to apply for research? Do you know of any profs taking students in (i have a dec in health sci).

thanks in advance !

Do credits expire?

I had to withdraw last semester because I had some health problems that lead to the diagnosis of a chronic autoimmune disorder. I’ve now sent three emails and contacted my former academic advisor, none of them capable of answering and some replying to my question. I’ve resorted to the great and powerful Reddit because McGill can’t get their shit together ig.

Continuation of FRSL courses cutoff

I have been taking a French course for the past two semesters. I learned a lot and am going to pass, but I definitely didn't prioritize it over my major and minor courses since I wasn't sure if I was going to continue with it afterwards and was mostly taking it for the sake of learning. The problem is that I was told by my professor recently that to continue to the next level of French, I need at least a 70%, which is a hard maybe considering that I tend to mostly get 60s and 70s on the evaluations.

My main problem with this is that I am completely unable to find a source on this grade limit for continuation anywhere on the McGill website. It feels genuinely misleading and dishonest for the department to not make it accessible anywhere in the prerequisites for future courses. Does anyone have any idea what this is about or who I can talk to about it?

Is mcgill feasible for a french speaker ?

I'm from Quebec, and not even from Montreal so my English is far from perfect. (I've kinda never talked to a native english speaker in person) But can I still join mcgill as it is one of the most renowned university in Canada ? And, will I be able to make friends or will I get rejected because of my french accent ? Will I lose a lot of points because of the language ? Thx for your answer if any of you have a story like this !
