I honestly think Nintendo could have saved all of this hassle if they just sold Mario Kart at $80. They're selling it for $50 in the bundle so it's kind of weird they slapped the $80 price tag on it. My guess is that they were predicting the tariffs would increase their prices but also figured that everyone would realize tariffs are horrible and they would be axed pretty quickly. Then Nintendo could look generous by lowering the price rather than setting the price at $70 and then having to raise it. They just probably didn't expect the president of the United States to have no grasp on economics or reality and slap every country on the planet with massive tariffs.
The best selling game on the switch was Mario kart, this is nothing more than a chess move. The bundle is their goal for the now, but the game itself is the long con. $80 is Nintendo saying this is our golden child, this will last the rest of the console's life like 8 did before it. At this point it's $10 bucks a year if Switch 2 last eight years.
To generalize in gamer terms, at least your not dumb enough to spend $70 per year on Madden/Fifa/EA games, $10 is a steal.
That's a good way to look at it. I have gotten my money's worth dozens of times over with MK8. If World provides the same value then getting it for $50 with the bundle is an absolute steal. I think every gaming company is going to raise their prices but Nintendo was the first to bite the bullet. But we also had those rumors of GTA 6 costing $100 and a ton of people didn't see an issue with that so it's strange there is so much backlash at Nintendo.
There's no way Nintendo was that meta. Usually they include games like this in bundles for discounts to get people to buy their consoles. They did it a ton around the switch 1's launch as well.

The new Donkey Kong costs $70 tho? Like the same price as a modern CoD game, it’s just Mario Kart that is $80
