I honestly think Nintendo could have saved all of this hassle if they just sold Mario Kart at $80. They're selling it for $50 in the bundle so it's kind of weird they slapped the $80 price tag on it. My guess is that they were predicting the tariffs would increase their prices but also figured that everyone would realize tariffs are horrible and they would be axed pretty quickly. Then Nintendo could look generous by lowering the price rather than setting the price at $70 and then having to raise it. They just probably didn't expect the president of the United States to have no grasp on economics or reality and slap every country on the planet with massive tariffs.
There's no way Nintendo was that meta. Usually they include games like this in bundles for discounts to get people to buy their consoles. They did it a ton around the switch 1's launch as well.

The new Donkey Kong costs $70 tho? Like the same price as a modern CoD game, it’s just Mario Kart that is $80
