I plan to take this to my tailor/seamstress to fix as best they can, but any specific technique recommended given the location and fabric? It doesn’t have to be perfect, just looking for it to be not as noticeable and functional. TIA!!

Old leather wallet, made new again!

I have never worked with leather before, but a family friend mentioned that her husband stopped using his wallet that their son gifted him for Christmas way-way back and asked if I could see about fixing it (she knows I’m always fixing clothes or kids toys etc). So I got to work! Ordered one type of lace, but it was the wrong kind. Finally found the right type of leather cord but then didn’t know you couldn’t just put it through the punched holes. A quick YouTube session later and I was on the search for a leather rope needle. Amazon delivered the next day and I got straight to work. I didn’t take any before pictures besides slide 1, but I ended up tying into the part that had held up and fixed only the damaged parts instead of re-stringing the wallet in its entirety. I’m pretty pleased with how seamlessly it appears at first glance. And happy to have a new mending skill 🪡

These are my favorite pants. I've mended them a lot over the years. Now they're assless-- is there any way to fix this? Is it worth it? Don't mind my mattress, I'm cleaning my sheets

The hole is in the armpit of the sweater, I have a lot of the yarn left, so I can use that, but I can't figure out the best method to close the hole:) Any suggestions? The yarn is torn and worn down in several places:')

The plaid fabric is cotton, it would be easy to sew back together if not for the decal on it. I don’t know what it’s made of, maybe vinyl? And it’s adhered to the fabric so that I can’t sew the fabric separately.

I bought this sweater last year and I absolutely love it. The second time I wore it I noticed these three loops around the front collar that are popping out. What's the best way to fix this? Do I just pull them under with some thread and tie them off?

Mended my brother’s jeans!

I haven’t done a lot of mending, so I don’t mind it looking a little messy! My dog ripped a small hole in his pants while they were playing. It was a bit of a tricky fix because it ripped vertically and horizontally. We were both happy with how it came out, and now he can keep wearing this pair!

How should I patch?

I’m tryin to repair the seat of my bf’s jeans. There’s the obvious hole on one side, but then there’s missing thread along the seam and what looks like a soon-to-be hole on the other side. How should I patch it? (Of course the fabric won’t be bunched when I pin/sew it but it’s hard to lay it flat for photos). A few other jeans of his look similar or have two big holes on either side, so I’m chopping up a pair I picked up at the thrift store to make patches for all of them but I’ve never patched anything before. He goes for long walks every day and he’s a heck of a speed walker so it’s better to mend and strengthen than cycle through tons of pants (or let him walk around with holey pants for that matter)

Daughter’s favorite socks

This pack of my daughter’s favorite socks has seen better days. Two pairs have holes in the toes like this, another pair is worn out at the ball of the foot. Is there any way to mend these?

I knit and crochet and sew.

Could I Frankenstein it with parts from other socks?

This is the saddle of my baby's rocking horse. Probably the seam allowance was too small or it wasn't sewn properly. Now the edge of the fabric is starting to fray. How can I fix this? I don't think I am skilled enough to take the whole thing apart. Please let me know what I can do, my baby seems to like this a lot.

Thank you

Advice?

Post image

Hey y’all I was hoping for a group like this and got so excited when I saw it existed!!

This is a bag strap, it’s vintage and I’ve tried finding the same strap fabric to replace the whole thing but I cannot find any let alone get a color match. (There is more seen into the bag so I don’t want to just get a different one I want it to match). I’ve never mended a strap or anything like this before, is there a way to do it if I can find a color matching thread/string?

Appreciate any help! Thanks!!

Is my weighted blanket toast?

Post image

So, it was past time to take my weighted blanket to the laundromat (60lb washers means nothing breaks) but somehow it not only got dumped from the basket and got dirtier, I think the little dog chewed it!

A bunch of the glass sand fell out and now I don't know what to do! Help?

What thread to use?

Post image

Is this possible to mend and what thread would I use? This has several holes. Some are at seams. Some are not. I know about visible mending on non-knit fabrics but I’m not sure how to make regular mending so it’s not visible.

Ways to retie this torn puffer jacket stitching? Threads are too short to tie by hand. Is there a tool?

Roommate fell off the icy stairs and broke his arm. Had to cut his sleeves off. Any repair tips?

I tried to have the sleeves cut at the seam, but it was an emergency, so it's pretty rough. The cut dances across both sides of the original seam in a few places. Sweater was expensive and the t shirt sentimental, so I hope we can save some of it. Any tips?

Mending a shirt collar with a long rip (ideas?)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! I’ve been asked to fix a shirt collar. It’s slightly yellowed and it has a long rip from continued use (see picture). It doesn’t completely bisect the collar, but it’s pretty long.

I’ve fixed collars before but never this bad. I have some ideas, but I’d like to ask if anyone has experience with this sort of mending and what they recommend. For reference, I have a BA in Fashion and textile design with a focus on pattern making (I’m been working on a different area though). I’m sure I can learn advanced techniques or anything new if needed.

My idea would be to use interfacing fabric to get these pieces together, and then turn the collar around and sew it back on for continued wear (the shirt has sentimental value and the owner wants to keep wearing for a while longer).

I’d also like to try and treat the fabric to get the yellow off, at least a bit. Trim the rip and perhaps embroider it closed before attaching back to the shirt.

Regarding these two last ideas: I’m unsure at what stage it would be better to treat the fabric and with what exactly. And what embroidery technique would be the best, if any at all.

Thank you for your tips.
