I know everyone's giving you shit for having a 32gb phone but you should actually do a factory reset, often system updates just sit in the cache long after they've been installed, it's a pain but it might help, also maybe get an SD card and use adaptive storage (not sure if Android still does that it's been a while since I needed it)

Cheaper models still have sd storage but not many.

u/GoldGarage115 11h ago
Oh yeah I was specifically referring to the "adaptive storage" option, I've got a galaxy a06 work phone which takes an SD card
Adaptive storage will emulate having more phone storage

SD card won’t help much here. Seeing as the main thing taking his storage is system files and apps, which Samsung (most of the time) won’t let you move.

u/Dear_Musician4608 13h ago
It sure would help him have space to put photos, videos, or music.

u/Essaiel 13h ago
Which only takes up 190MB in a device with 32000MB of storage, or 0.6% of the storage on the device. So obviously, that’s not the problem. Is it?
So a SD card isn’t fixing anything.
1
u/Dear_Musician4608 13h ago
It would definitely fix the inability to add any more media files, what are you even talking about?
You think just because they only have 190mb of media when they only have 1gb of free space means they wouldn't add more if they had several hundred more GB of space?
2
u/Essaiel 12h ago
You can add a SD card and he will still be in the same boat of only having 1GB free internal storage. It’s not fixing his problem.
His problem is still there. It’s not fixing anything, it’s not delaying anything. He either needs to do a factory reset or get a new phone.

Usually an end user doesn't want a smaller system for its own sake; usually a smaller system is desirable because a bloated system takes up space that the user would otherwise use for media, documents, and applications; media, documents, and applications don't care whether they live in internal storage or on the SD card
2
u/Essaiel 12h ago
Media take up 190mb and documents take up 10mb. For the third time in this comment chain, Samsung won’t let you move most apps to a SD card outside of some allowing storage allocation for media.
A memory card isn’t going to help him. His internal storage will still be in the same place unless he does a factory reset or manual cache clearance.
A memory card will allow them to store more media. But going by their current usage that doesn’t appear to be a high priority unless they have been backing up to google photos are clearing physical space.
Why are you people hyper focused on photos, videos and audio?

It fixes his problem of not being able to take any photos and videos.
1
u/Essaiel 12h ago
Is that a problem op voiced he had or cared about?
2
u/Dear_Musician4608 12h ago
Did OP voice any problem at all or did they just title this "my phones storage" and leave it at that?
Are there deleted comments I'm not aware of?

It would still move the apps.
Besides, camera app can be set to save everything directly to the SD card, which also circumvents any space problem on the internal storage.

u/Essaiel 13h ago
Samsung won’t let you move system apps and most third party apps to a SD card

u/builder397 13h ago
Samsung seems to have only gotten shittier since I last owned one.
(It was a handmedown, Id never deliberately pick something thats both overpriced AND full of bloatware and idiotic restrictions.)

If I don’t tell my phone to behave itself, one single image will take up more space than this poster’s ‘Images’ folder.

Old updates in the cache. Most phones have the alternative to erase system updates.
Looks like a Samsung and they should delete the update if you do all the updates and then use the clear storage function.

look up how to boot your phone in maintenance mode and then do clear cache. most of your storage will clear up.

my s24+ os only uses 15gb in storage. try a factory reset
1
u/ChubbyChicken645 11h ago
Is it System that's taking 15gb, or are you using 15gb in total? Because I'm on S24 Ultra, and I'm using something like 60gb
1
u/KFC_Junior 11h ago
system uses 15gb. im actually using 140ish gb cos im too lazy to clear anything.
mustve mindblanked when typing the comment... fixed it now

u/Hillyleopard 8h ago
I’ve the same problem with my 32GB iPad lol as someone else suggested a factory reset can help but for me at least it didn’t take long for it to take over all the space again
1
u/ContributionLatter32 12h ago
Yeah I ditched my last 32g phone a few years ago just because of the space. 128 gigs is my minimum required space going forward.
1
u/ChubbyChicken645 11h ago
I would say the same. I used to have an iPhone 7 and the storage was 32gb, I switched to an iPhone 11 and got 64gb of storage but still wasn't cutting it so if I was to go back to iPhone I would be needing at least 128gb to even function. Now I use S24 Ultra and have 512gb, so storage won't ever be a problem again and since I haven't been on android before, I have a clean slate. No backups are being restored to my gallery or nothing.

u/Petey567 10h ago
Yeah I have a 128gb and had my phone for 3 years. I use about 55 and I don’t have that many apps or photos, but again still using 55gb even with that (24gb is system)

u/Average_Blud 20h ago
How come you’re still using a 32Gb phone? I feel like 64 is the minimum nowadays, some would even refuse a phone below 128Gb

u/Thebrains44 18h ago
Yeah, man, just stop being poor.

It’s not like bigger storage is alien technology unaffordable to anyone below upper class.
8
u/the01li3 17h ago
Phone prices increase a lot when you get bigger storage on them, even with memory cards costing very little cos they know people will refuse anything below a 128gb so can charge for more.
-20
u/SameSquirrel6393 17h ago
Is it bad that I have a 512gb phone then? And still I have only used like 50gb of it
7
u/the01li3 16h ago
Nah if you can afford it might as well, just the whole 'storage is cheap" is fine when you just buy memory cards but doesn't apply to inbuilt 99% of the time as they bump up the prices
3
u/AMDKilla 14h ago
Apple pretends to have never heard the phrase "storage is cheap"
2
u/TheFrostyCrab 13h ago
When i order a mac with extra storage i picture tim apple spanking me like the silly little consumer i am.
2
u/Callmemabryartistry 16h ago
Yeah but some people don’t live on their phones. Some people do things off-screen. Crazy I know
4
u/Average_Blud 16h ago
This particular person clearly needs a bigger storage though. They’re complaining about it in the post.
-2
u/Callmemabryartistry 15h ago
They are complaining that nowadays a huge chunk of our storage (that is a selling point) takes up so much. Whereas it wouldn’t take any effort for companies to develop a separate drive for the system while keeping the storage you bought the phone for at your disposal

u/Tuffleslol 15h ago
If youre struggling to pay for rent, food, bills, how are you gonna buy a better phone?

u/Neno28 14h ago
Stop gatekeeping. Why should i throw out my good phone?
1
u/Blackberry_9830 14h ago
Right? I still have a phone with 16 GB of storage. I used it extensively until last year, even though I got a new one in 2023.
2
u/grary000 16h ago
Some people just don't care about storage. I don't take pictures or videos, I don't play games on my phone, apps are pretty much just Netflix and Spotify...why pay extra for something I'm not going to use.

system takes up 21 gigs is crazy
