Have working class Ottawa dudes always dropped "boss" in conversation so much?

I'm an immigrant kid, and growing up, I never really heard grown men calling strangers "boss." Like asking the bus driver, "How you doing, boss?" when boarding. Heard a lotta, "Thanks, boss," in all circumstances from getting your order from whoever's behind the counter to when someone helps out loading bulky purchases into your car.

Is it the 21st century version of "bud?" Has it been a thing forever, and I'm just now picking up on it? Is it big in some regions, and has finally migrated over here?

This is hilarious "The average price in Quebec is $1.42 and in Ottawa it's $1.27 so 20 cents a litre difference"

Um that math doesn't add up bro.

Looking for... Ottawa D&D?

Where does one go to find D&D-related groups and events here? The only group I've found has been Ottawa D&D Adventurers and it's kind of dead, I've asked around and haven't had any luck. I'm a bit new to Ottawa and don't know where else to look.

The guy also seems a little unhinged and ex-felon type. I don't want him to know that it's me that called. How do I report this?

Meetup Weekly Thursday Board Game Meetup at Level One

Welcome to our weekly board game meetup at Level One 🙂. Level One is a board game lounge where we like to come hangout, have fun, and meet new people. Everyone is welcome!

Where is it? Level One Game Pub, 14 Waller Street, Downtown Ottawa

When is it? Every Thursday at 6pm. Ask for the Reddit group upon arrival. Generally we take up the back half of the upper level. Note: Please try to arrive by 6pm-ish, coming later means there may not be space for you to join a game as the tables may already be full!

How much do I have to pay? There is a $9 "stay & play" fee (can pay with card) with purchase, with no food or drink purchase the fee is $12.

What games? Some games people commonly play are: Night of the Ninja, The Gang, Secret Hitler, Avalon, Just One, and Coup, but we also love mixing it up and playing other games 🙂. We usually play light strategy games, party games, and social deduction, but we also tend to have a couple tables for heavier long strategy games.

FAQs:

How many people usually show up?

~30 people. Generally we have two 8-10 seat tables and three 4-6 seat tables.

What’s the age range of the crowd? Will I fit in?

Most of us are in our 20s and 30s, but all ages are definitely welcome! Our group is commonly described as welcoming, fun, good vibes, and relaxed.

Do I need to know how to play these games beforehand?

Nope! The games are for fun, not competition, feel free to learn from us or staff once you arrive. No pressure to know anything!

Do I need to RSVP that I will be coming? Do I need to go every week?

Nope, you just show up! If you are nervous about simply showing up, you can contact me and I can make arrangements to save you a seat for your first night. We host these meetups weekly, feel free to show up whenever works for you, as often as you would like. I highly recommend pushing yourself to go to your first one though!

If you have any questions do not hesitate to comment or message... Also I'm Robyn, hi! 😁

Happy Snow Day and Puzzled Pint Day!

Ottawa Power BI, Excel etc. Meetup tomorrow night at IKEA

We'll be in the upstairs cafeteria at 5pm. Anybody can come, it doesn't matter what level you're at or if you're into Excel or Power BI or whatever, we're more about data than anything. Probably more properly called an Analytics meetup.

More info here: https://generalbi.com/free/

I'll be doing a short presentation on how to analyise flat file data using a Star Schema. That should take 20 minutes.

It's a face-to-face meetup but we use teams instead of an overhead. I suppose if we get more presenters and stuff that want to show something we can set up a projector. But the teams thing has been working well so far.

edit

We're having a meetup downtown next week.

I'll accept the snow if it kills off the first wave of mosquitos.
