Trey's Acoustic Spring Tour has been a Statement

Trey's tour and ends tonight and as my favorite musician of all time I personally think he has made a really big statement with this run.

It's been an extraordinary tour and easily his best acoustic tour/performances to date (1999 spring excluded). I won't compare it to the 99 acoustic/electric tour because that is a legendary tour that can't be topped, and it's place in his career is one of the most significant musical statements the man has ever made and launched his solo career. His playing back then was on a different level. But since 2005 he's played acoustic and solo a lot and it's literally never been this fleshed out. His last tour in 2019 was basically a 90 minute sing along with nothing notable.

This tour has been a 2.5 hour excursion that has pushed him to find the limits of his acoustic skills and try to step over them. It's been an amazing blend of old and new, sing along, classics, more personal ballads and deep cuts. The unquestionable major step was the addition of Tanski to fill out what is essentially the second set. It's allowed him to attempt songs that make no sense acoustic like Reba, Stash, YEM, Divided Sky, and First Tube. All of which not only work, but are truly enthusiastic performances that breathe a breath of fresh air into songs we all know and love.

I will be the first to admit I have been very critical of Phish and particularly Trey's disinterest in Phish since mid-2022. Even though 2024 was a marked improvement, I still think Phish has had some glaring holes. Trey's over-singing. His ever-changing tone. His lack of interest in a creative rotation. And most importantly his lackadaisical playing which leans on crutches and easy outs instead of his incredible skill at intricacy. I will also add I think Mike hasn't sounded right since he got the new bass and took his rig off stage.

Recent performances have shown improvement but it has not quite reached the peak of fall 2021, the best of the bakers dozen, summer 2015, and Fall 13 which I think are the clear best extended moments of phish 3.0.

This tour has Trey excited about the songs, connecting to the music at its deep emotional level, engaged with the fans, and attempting to play intricate while being left naked and exposed. It takes a lot to step on stage and strip the music down to its base level, and it doesn't always work. But when it does it is a testament to both the artist and the quality of the music.

It's been really special to witness and listen to and it's going to lead right into spring and summer with a renewed passion and an extended period of practice for the singular best guitar player I personally have ever witnessed. Even if his best days are behind him, he's been able to embrace his place in his career with dignity, reverence, respect, and passion. The best 3.0 phish tours all come on the heels of him being a well-oiled machine on the guitar through practice and excitement for the music.

He's made a real statement with this tour, I really believe that, and the statement is to be ready for phish 2025. It is an odd year after all.

Thank you Trey, Thank you DC, Boo Drunks

I had such a great time seeing Trey in such an intimate setting...every time I see the man I just love him more and more. The DC crowd was mostly respectful and I enjoyed meeting some of them (e.g. the woman sitting next to us who Facetimed with Trey before the show because her sister-in-law happened to run into him strolling around Georgetown)!! I have to say though, the level of jack-assery from people who don't know how to hold their liquor had the potential to topple the evening. You know what I mean -- hooting and hollering during inopportune moments, chomping away while others are trying to listen to the music, etc. Despite the minor disturbance, I was thankful for the shushers -- it definitely quieted down when people would 'Shhhh...' My wife and I had a few drinks before the show too, but damn people, some of you have to know when to stop!!! Do what you have to do, but once you are clearly bothering people around you, you gotta check yourself...no reason to get up in the middle of a beautiful song to booze it up some more when you're already spilling all over the place. There's a bar down the street for that.

What was the song or experience that got you into Phish?

Heard a few songs in the early 90s and later listened to them with friends playing them for about a year in 1999

For me it was a late night when I first heard Guyute

Feel in love again when I first heard Mountains in the Mist live

PNW Phans - Want My Tapes?

Hey everyone - I hope everyone is excited for our spring shows!

With that in mind, I need to part ways with my old B&P tape collection. Almost all are Maxwell XLII with custom tape jackets and sitting in a handmade tape display. Most of the shows are from the 90s … when I saw most of my shows and B&P was what we did. Most were directly transferred from DATs - Always good to have phriends who were tapers back in the day.

Background… it was fun to have it on display and a great conversation topic. Unfortunately, I just moved in with my fiancée and we are trying to cram the belongings of two tiny homes into one… And her house is smaller than mine was! Anyway, we need to part ways with lots of cherished belongings … but I’m keeping my oldest t-shirt and stubs!!

Please DM me if interested or with questions.

Random jams of certain songs that you have no clue when it was played and now it's killing you..

Please help! Im looking for a farmhouse jam where Trey peaks about as hard as I can remember. It's been a long time and I can hear that part in my head and I'm sure it's from a show that I had burned back in the day but no longer have. Any ideas would be amazing!

Edit: it had to be pre 07ish as I stopped doing bit torrent and burning CDs around then.

Edit: IM AND IDIOT. I woke and realized it's wasn't even farmhouse. It was Waste!

Edit: I found it!!!! Rochester 97!!

Stop on a dime

So I love Run Like an Antelope. It's definitely one of my top 5 phish songs, maybe my favorite. I could probably say a lot about why I love it so much, but one of the big things is the raw wild joyous energy they get to in the jam and then just stop on a dime. Then the quieter funky jam into rye rye rocko still has that energy beating underneath (thanks Mike), but in a much more controlled way.

I also super love Viola Lee Blues by the Dead, and I realized I think its for the same reason. Especially those primal 69-70 years they (especially Jerry and Phil) would just wail on their instruments and then all together just stop and drop back into the funky groove.

Why do I love that so much? The raw loud chaotic noise that stops on a dime and comes together into a groove.

Are there other songs by anyone that do this thing? Anyone else love this thing?

Gap Chart, Tour: 1989 Tour

Set 1 : Colonel Forbin's Ascent > Fly Famous Mockingbird

Oh Good Grieph

Hey there Phans, it’s me, that guy who’s partner passed away back in January. First, I just want to thank all of you for the support, the well wishes, and the occasional check in. I’ve had good days and bad and the love and support of this community have been a light to me through the dark times. A special thanks to u/doloresgrrrl for the playlist you made.

The reason I’m posting is that I decided to do something Meredith had always wanted to do but never did, to follow a tour start to finish. These will be my first shows without her. I know I’m not the only person that lost a show buddy or crew member out there. I was wondering if any of you out there who are still going through the grieving process would want to meet up and have a sort of group led grief therapy group (kind of think the Phellowship, but for people who are grieving a loss).

Because the Phellowship meets at set break and I’m sure some of you out there might need/want to go to those meetings as well, I was thinking of trying to have the group meet before the show 30-ish minutes before doors outside the venue.

If this is something that you would be interested in, please respond to the attached poll. I’m also open to time/location suggestions. Thank you all again for the love and light.

Acoustic Trey Red Bank poster WOTC debut

Happy Trey Day!

Trey Anastasio plays another acoustic show tonight in Red Bank, New Jersey.

I was really hoping to make it to the show tonight, but it’s just not in the cards for me.

Enjoy for those of you who are going and enjoy that “Fluffhead” he’s gonna play tonight.

Y’all whoever requested this WOTC in DC on April 4, THANK YOU immensely! This is the most amazing thing I have heard today! I hope he does it again. It’s really freaking good. I strongly suggest you listen to the whole thing.

I have always loved the silent trees part, that is the first meme I have saved in my phone from July 2016.😭

What is it about Phish that first turned you into a Phan?

What is that draws you to their music, the scene, the Phamily?

I love Phish ❤️

Honestly, I didn't like them at all at first.

After Garcia's death I became a huge Widespread Panic.. Spreadhead.

I only actually seen the Jerry Garcia led Grateful Dead live four times..

Stating in 96.. I have seen WSP live a bunch..

I still love me some WSMFP!!..

But.. I just simply like Phish more..

I didn't actually start to even like Phish until 2001..

By 2002.. I was a full on Phish, Phan!!

With me it's the clever and fun lyrics..

Their approach to the songs..

The prog, the funk, the epic jams, the mixture of so very many different genres, the fantasy, the serous nature of so many of the lyrics, the silly nature of so many of the lyrics, their personalities, & the Phans

First time to Phish concert and first time to Hollywood Bowl. Need some help choosing the seats.

I made places to take my wife to LA for her 30th birthday and I see Phish is touring. I always wanted to go to a Phish concert and I think this is our chance but sadly I didn’t know my plans earlier and couldn’t buy the tickets on TM presale. I am looking at Stubhub and Cash or Trade for resale tickets. I am looking for Super Seats in HB for best view and sound for the price. I see 174$ for section G1 seats. Is Stubhub reliable and are these seats good for the price? Should I wait for few more days? Please suggest.

I'm sitting here trying to do my grocery order and I keep getting distracted by how freaking amazed I am by the sound coming from ONE GUY playing a song I've been listening to since high school. Also...how does he have this energy? Playing like 20 songs a night?? I just love hearing the joy he has come through in his playing. Just wow. <3
