This was my thought as well. It makes me wonder how far out we are from withholding federal all taxes and in general, giving the orange menace the nose thumb.

That makes no sense logistically. You don’t pay federal taxes to California who then pay it to the federal government. This would involve the California government directing its citizens not to file taxes. I do not envision tons of people agreeing and, even if they do, they risk agents with guns showing up at their doors.
