During his first term I started seeing balkanization chatter floating around a lot more, curious to see if that's what comes of all this shit.

That has been Russia's endgoal for their propaganda campaign for a long time. Inflamed fictional divide, split the nation, internal chaos, and eventually Balkanization and ideally secession. A divided US is a much easier to manage adversary.
