That's a big part of these tariffs people dont get.

They are effectively bargain/bribe/threat tools that are under the control of the executive branch only which allows him to bypass Congress.

It would require a veto vote of Congress, would be all of the Dems and a large majority of the Republicans which isn't going to happen because they do as theyre told.

Even if it did pass without that veto majority, the POTUS said he'd veto it.

So if a vote does happen, watch who votes no. They're absolutely complicit in all of this.

And they only will vote no if they realize as midterms get closer that they will be voted out.

So do they do as trump says and go down with the ship? Or vote to say their own sorry asses that allowed this to happen.

Tariff power of the executive is supposed to be an emergency power for fixing emergencies, not creating them.

Yeah, Trump made up an "emergency" and then just started doing things completely unrelated to the "emergency" he declared. It's blatantly invalid but the GOP is going to back him regardless.

Even if it won’t happen, congress can overturn a veto from the president. There’s a reason the founding fathers made congress the most powerful branch of the government.

  1. The president vetoes a bill that Congress has passed.
  2. Congress can try to override the veto by voting again.
  3. To succeed, two-thirds (67%) of both the House and Senate must vote in favor of the bill.

Absolutely correct and thank you for pointing that out.

I would hope, as all of us do, that if a bill did get in front of him that he vetoed, that they would absolutely hold a session or vote to veto it immediately.

Just a lot of ifs in all of that, so I sincerely hope if they take their shot, they get it right the first time and don't miss.

We've all seen what happens when you don't and when you give Trump another run at it.

In this hypothetical scenario they would also need to get rid of Mike Johnson as speaker of the house since he will never allow this to happen
