PROVIDENCE — Pope Francis has named Most Reverend Bruce Alan Lewandowski, who is currently serving as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, as the 10th Bishop of Providence.

Lewandowski is the third bishop of Providence since 2023 when Most Rev. Richard G. Henning was appointed to serve alongside Bishop Thomas Tobin until he turned 75, the church’s mandatory retirement age. In August 2024, Pope Francis named Henning the Archbishop of Boston.

Help our cat beat cancer

Our fur baby was diagnosed in February with grade 3 injection site sarcoma. This is a rare type of cancer that cats can get from a vaccine. As naive first-time pet parents in the US, we did not have pet insurance. We’re looking at some pretty big vet bills that we need to pay for out of pocket. We’ve been able to round up some money. We have tried to apply for grants to help us cover the remaining costs but have been unsuccessful. We’re now looking to raise money to cover the rest of the vet fills. This would allow us to continue saving for our future with kids and a house someday.

We know that times are tough for many people right now, and we do not want to take anyone’s money who cannot afford to do so. We are only asking those that are able and willing. If you’re not able to donate with money, if you could share the fundraiser with others, that would help a lot. I’ll be sharing it on social media soon as well, so you can share it that way as well.

Also, if you'd like to donate directly to the vet, you can do so by calling Bay State Veterinary Emergency. Their phone number is (508) 379-1233. Say you're calling to donate to Jozinha ("joe-zeen-yuh") Licazali.

Thanks for your consideration!!

Best place for a turkey burger?

I’m allergic to beef and I just moved here after living in San Francisco for the past 3 years. In SF, there was a place called Big Mouth Burgers that had the best turkey burger I’ve ever had.

Anyone know of a place with a decent turkey burger? Thank you!

Stolen Airmen Coin

Post image

Hi everyone,

I’m aware this will be a shot in the dark but it’s worth a shot to try. I live in Pawtucket but wanted to post here for more reach. Someone went through my vehicle last night and stole my boyfriend’s airmen coin. We’ve contacted the authorities, contacted local pawn shops, etc, but just wanted to put the alert out. It looks like the picture but is more yellowed and worn down. That coin means so, so much to him. If anyone sees, hears, or know anything, please reach out.

Thanks.

News ‘It’s fear and it’s anger’: Brown faculty, alumni petition university to resist Trump administration amid funding cuts

FROM THE STORY:

PROVIDENCE — Days after the Trump administration confirmed that it will block $510 million in federal contracts and grants for Brown University, hundreds of faculty are organizing to request that the university’s leadership and governing body stand up and fight against the president’s tactics.

In a petition exclusively obtained by The Boston Globe, more than 600 faculty members, along with some students and alumni, signed on to say they “fully support” recent statements made by Brown President Christina H. Paxson, and will “stand together” in defending academic freedom and the freedom of expression, “in the face of intimidation and attack.”

The petition, which was signed first by J. Timmons Roberts, an environmental studies professor, said Brown must “uphold our legal obligation as a university to protect all members of our community.” The petition is expected to be formally presented to Paxson and Provost Francis J. Doyle during a faculty meeting with the leaders at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The meeting is not open to the public. The letter will also be sent to members of the Corporation at Brown.

Pint of Science in May

There's an international movement called the Pint of Science:

https://pintofscience.us/

It's on May 19-20-21 this year.

"Pint of Science is a worldwide science festival bringing researchers in bars & cafés to share their scientific discoveries with you."

I'd gladly do it, except I'm going to be out of the country (and hoping to be let back in… 🙄) on those dates.

But Philly, NY, New Haven, and Boston are having events…surely we don't want to be left out?

Recommendation for lamp post repair?

As the title states. I have a lamp post that rusted out at the base, and needs to either be repaired or replaced. Are there any contractors or companies you'd recommend in the Providence area?

Lost luggage at the train station 4/7/25

This is going to be a shot in hell…but I’m trying anyways

My boyfriend accidentally left his duffle bag yesterday around 12:10pm while he was getting into the car from the Providence Train Station yesterday. He think he left is right on the sidewalk by the main entrance where all the cars park.

He didn’t realize until he got him and he’s crushed. He had irreplaceable things (like photos of him and his son, medications, gifts) in there.

He filled out a lost item request via the Train station website.

Is there anything else he can do? Has anyone ever left anything at the train station and received it back with the lost item requests?
