Not giving any additional info for people to tear me apart with. Just wondering if I’m not alone.

If you’re looking for a job right now, you already know how brutal it is. You can have years of experience, a solid resume, a degree, apply to hundreds of jobs, and still get nothing but ghosting or rejection.

It’s not you. It’s the system.

Most companies use ATS to filter resumes before a human even sees them. These systems scan for certain keywords, and if your resume doesn’t match perfectly, you’re automatically rejected. They get hundreds of applications, and most never make it past the algorithm.

Technically, you should be tweaking your resume to match every single job description you apply for. But who the f has time for that??? And we shouldn’t have to do that!

Your odds of getting an interview just from applying online are around 3% …And that’s not even counting all the fake job postings out there.

It’s a waste of time. It’s unfair. And we need a different approach.

Some ideas: Print your resume and hand it out in person. Apply directly on company websites, then follow up. Be annoying. Make them see you. Look into gig jobs. Craigslist still has opportunities, just be careful. Start a side hustle or small business. If no one’s hiring, create your own income. Freelance. Sell your skills, even if it’s small at first.

These companies don’t care about you. They don’t care if you’re struggling to pay rent or if you end up on the streets. You have to take control and make something happen for yourself.

I know it feels horrible. Job hunting can wreck your confidence, make you feel invisible, and leave you questioning your worth. But this isn’t just happening to you. A lot of people are in the same boat, and even the ones with jobs are living paycheck to paycheck.

It’s not you. It’s the system….& until that changes, we have to find our own way.

I can’t even get hired at Five Below to earn an unlivable. Not even McDonald’s or Walmart. Not sure why people( boomers) keep pretending as if getting a job is so easy. Always attributing someone’s lack of ability finding a job to be because someone is “lazy and doesn’t want to work.” I keep being told this by my mom daily. And it’s so frustrating because I so desperately WANT a job. ANY job I’ll take. I am NOT being picky like I keep being accused of. Literally NO ONE in this entire planet will hire me.

I have given up on climbing the ladder ages ago. So then when I became unemployed it was like, OK, I'll do almost any job as long as I get paid the same as my last salary. Now, after almost 2 years I just don't care and am ready to do whatever to survive. And I know I'll be lucky to get even half of what I earned previously. I'm considering all kinds of things, things I never thought I'd consider.

Money is everything and chasing it is making me feel like I don't even know who I am anymore. And I hate when people say to pursue your passion and not chase money. If only it were that easy. I'm so tired and starting to rely on the sub so much, I don't know if it's normal. The biggest trick to being unemployed is making sure you don't lose yourself but it's becoming increasingly harder.

I've always wanted to be a server, nobody wanted me but finally, NOW IT'S MY TIME TO SHINE. I'm so happy, they said they loved me and now they wanted to further my employment. Omfg I'm shaking and crying. I go up there monday to give them a copy of my ssi and ID. I'm so happy! UNEMPLOYMEN WON'T LAST FOR YOU, I PROMISE. I was persistent and kept calling places- at first I thought I'd start as a to-go specialist but I'M A FULL ON SERVER. YESSSS!

I graduated college and moved back home last June. After a couple months of applying for things I actually wanted and things I didn’t, I ended up with a random serving job where I would literally make like $50 a day on a normal day with how much they were scheduling me for mornings. Ended up being laid off for overhiring a month and a half ago. I’ve been applying for jobs as much as I mentally can (which is at least hundreds and hundreds of jobs). No one wants me. Even a receptionist wants years of office experience. My parents swear I spend all day in my room doing nothing and feeling sorry for myself. They constantly talk about what they did and make me feel like im a lazy idiot. They tell me to get an entry level, easy to get job. IM TRYING. Even grocery stores don’t want me now. Now they want to kick me out. I don’t know what to do. I can’t. Any sympathy or advice or anything would help right now honestly

Started applying in early January. 100+ applications later, I’m three mental breakdowns deep... currently in an ongoing battle with the unemployment office just to get my application approved... savings will run out in the next three months...I’m legitimately scared.

This shit fucking sucks.
Like, really fucking sucks.

But as much as I want to wallow and throw myself a pity party, I have to stay optimistic, otherwise there’s no way in hell I can keep braving this apocalyptic job market.

I’m grateful to have solid work experience though. And while interviews are few and far between (definitely not coming as easily as I’m used to), I am getting them. Even if it’s just one a month, it’s something.

I really feel for the new grads out there. Y’all got stuck with the shittiest timing, and I can’t imagine how bleak things must feel right now, especially if you’ve sent out hundreds of apps with nothing to show for it.

So I’m posting this to ask: how can I help?

Wanted to ask hiring managers and recruiters specifically about what they expect in entry level resumes. I have already put down two internships and wanted some help choosing my last work experiences

1- a nonprofit where I am using technical skills but it’s basically volunteering and I haven’t done much for it yet

2- a resident advisor, I was thinking this could show off my soft skills and my involvement in my community on campus

What are the signs that a job is indeed a ‘Ghost job’ ?

I'm tired of LinkedIn harassing me with Premium discounts. I had Premium, and it did nothing for me. Here I am, still unemployed years later, and the "we're hiring" posts are a day late. I'm annoyed and unemployed. Did I say I was unemployed? Screw you LinkedIn.

You know it's bad when more than 5 minutes has passed and your tech job posting hasn't surpassed 100+ applicants.

I've essentially been out of a job since December 2023 with my only source of income being a contract job that hardly gives any hours. In fact, at my last job site they sent me home early. I received an offer letter for a full-time position but I'm not happy about the pay. It's only 80% of my minimum desired rate, let alone nowhere near where I would be happy to accept. The hours aren't great either (5:30 PM to 2 AM) with no night shift differential. It is an hourly position, not salaried, hence why I hope for the night shift differential. There's a lot going against taking the job, but I'm so tired of not having anything to do full-time. I find things to do now and then of course. Should I accept but still continue the job search? It's worth noting I still live at home with my father and have no dependents. My cost of living is very low as a result. I could afford to not take the job as I still have money in my savings account. The idea of giving into low offers in this job market sucks, especially with all the recent inflation.

I've been seeking since January and I finally got an amazing gig lined up (well amazing for my circumstances) and the on-boarding is taking forever.

Took 5 days after accepting my letter to get the background check

Took 3 days of harassing people for the piss test (only after a week of waiting for the background check to clear)

Now I'm just waiting to start training so I can finally collect a paycheck again. Savings all gone. I lost everything except my car.

I hate capitalism.

At least I have a 4 days on 3 days off schedule to look forward to
