Need your opinion on a gift.

Hi,

My oldest uncle just retired, He have done alot for the family and my mom and other uncles and aunties are looking to buy him something nice.

I have suggested a Rolex since it's something nice that he wouldn't buy for himself plus its a Rolex so it has the prestige and stuff. and because I'm the one who suggested I've been given the rule to look into it.

I really like the Air-king 140000 and the 14010, I think it's really classy and the name suit him since he was a pilot. but they don't make it anymore so ill have to buy a preowned one. I found one on Bob's watches for around 5500$ (which is well around our budget) in an excellent condition with papers and box.

my concerns are:

1- Size: I'm afraid that 34mm might be too small, for me I don't mind a small watch but the trend is bigger watches and I'm afraid he might find it feminine.

2- Pre-owned: For me I think it being an old watch adds to the cool factor but idk if its ok to buy something preowned as gift or not.

Got the Call!

Explorer 40! In before the tariffs! I got on “the list” with my AD in mid November for a Sub Date and decided to pivot to an Explorer 40 about 3 months ago since I had picked up an Omega Seamaster from them that I fell in love. Got the call on Thursday and told them I could only make it in on Saturday. They held it no problem. That’s my total spend history with them. They threw in a Rolex travel case as well as a “gift”.

No whiskey, champagne, etc. just a bottle of sparkling water. It was pretty cut and dry transactional, but overall pleasant. Not at all like my experience at an Omega boutique when I picked up a speedy which was truly amazing.

Nonetheless I absolutely love the piece. I had briefly considered the 36 but preferred the look of the 40 on my almost 7” wrist.

Real talk - trip to Rome/Florence/Nice - wear Daytona? Or not worth the risk?

I’m looking for folks with advice and actual experience living/traveling to these locations, not the generic “it’s a watch, it’s meant to be worn”, or “I’ve read the news and all watches get stolen”.

My Datejust black Dial and smooth Bezel.

On my opinion, it's the best casual Rolex. At least in my collection

Question about a 1603

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi my father gave me his two tone DJ with linen dial. I believe it is a 1603. He wore it for 15 years and then thought it was ostentatious and started wearing cheaper watches. It’s been sitting in its box since probably close to 1990. Prior to him stopping wearing it, he had it serviced, I think it was sent to Rolex in Switzerland.

I have a few questions. Can I still get this watch serviced by Rolex or is it too old? Would I have to use an independent watchmaker/Rolex specialist? Other than lube I don’t think it needs any major work. It’s basically mint except the jubilee is stretched. I assume the idea is to keep it as original as possible. It has a tritium dial that’s long been depleted. Do I just have a watch with no lume? And can I have a sapphire crystal put on or do I need to keep the existing one? It has no scratches or anything.

Sorry for the basic questions. My other watches have been more contemporary and mostly unworn. Haven’t had to deal with an older watch before.

Thanks.

After four months I got my datejust back. Dropped my other datejust off for service as well. We’ll see how long that one takes.

Is 10.5 a good price for a 124060?

I’m thinking of moving on from my 14060, and I found a reputable grey market dealer offering me 10.5 on the 124060. Should I pull the trigger?

Looking to source a Glidelock clasp for a new Everest strap. Anyone have any idea where one would be able to get one? Thanks,
