Discussion Hub | Megathread Everything you need to know about the Nintendo Switch 2 (Price, Specs, Release, Pre-Orders, $70 Game Standard, and More)

Yeah, it's obviously no secret in the slightest that Nintendo unleashed all the Switch 2 info we need upon us all today, though because it's so much, I think it's time to compile it all here!

I will mostly be going over topics like the prices in the USD amount. However, information about the prices in other regions may be added at a later date too.

If you see something that you think is inaccurate, please reach out to me by Reddit DMs.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Section 1: Price, Release Date, Pre-Orders

=

1A: Price

In the US, The Nintendo Switch 2 will cost $449.99 USD, $100 more than the Nintendo Switch OLED.

Additionally, at launch, you can purchase a bundle for $499.99 USD consisting of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World, saving an extra $30 it would cost to purchase them separately.

While we all expected $400-$500 and wanted $400, This price point makes sense, when considering the specs and power of the system.

=

1B: Release Date

The Nintendo Switch 2 will globally release on Thursday June 5th, 2025.

=

1C: Pre-Orders

There are 2 main ways you can pre-order this system

Firstly, through the Nintendo website itself, you can sign up to reserve a spot to pre-order the system, and on May 8th, Pre-Orders will slowly open up by email to those who signed up, and for 72 hours after receiving the email, you can securely pre-order a system from Nintendo itself.

A nintendo account is required, of course. You must also be over the age of 18, have been a NSO member for atleast 12 months, and have 50 hours worth of gameplay.

You can find the URL to reserve your spot here: Nintendo Switch 2: How To Buy

-

Secondly, you can pre-order the system through select retailers on April 9th.

Currently, Best Buy and GameStop are confirmed to be a part of this, with more retailers likely to participate too. While there is no further info on how the pre-ordering process will operate to combat scalpers, more information is expected soon.

Best Buy page: Nintendo Switch 2 Black - Best Buy

GameStop page: https://www.gamestop.com/consoles-hardware/nintendo-switch/consoles/products/nintendo-switch-2/C200269.html

Section 2: Specs (Battery Life, Resolution, and More)

The Nintendo Switch will come with a 1080p 7.9-inch wide color gamut LCD screen in handheld mode, with up to 120fps and 120 Hz available.

Additionally, when docked, the Nintendo Switch can output 4k, 60fps & HDR10 graphics, and 1440p, 120fps & HDR10 graphics.

The battery life can be anywhere from roughly 2-6.5 hours depending on how you are playing your device. And while the system is in Sleep Mode, the time it'll take to complete a full charge of the device is 3 hours.

The internal system storage of the Switch 2 will be 256GB, Formerly, the OLED switch and the original switch had 64 and 32 gigabytes of storage respectively, so this is naturally a fair storage upgrade.

Micro SD cards are not compatible with the Switch 2. However, MicroSD Express cards are fully compatible and fine-tuned to play on the switch 2. Express SD cards up to 2TB are compatible.

The switch 2 will also come with a mouse sensor, microphone, and extra USB slot on top for further opportunities with gameplay.

Additional details include: Stereo audio with Surround Sound support. The system will use Wi-Fi 6.

=-=-=

Section 3: Games, and how they're priced.

Various games were shown in the direct, included, but not limited to (first party games highlighted in bold):

Mario Kart World ($80 physically; potentially $70 digitally)

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour (Price unconfirmed; likely <$10)

Super Mario Party: Jamboree + Jamboree TV: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Upgrade cost unconfirmed, possibly $10-$20)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Zelda Notes (Upgrade cost unconfirmed, possibly $10)

Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star Crossed World: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Upgrade cost unconfirmed, possibly $10-$20)

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Upgrade cost unconfirmed, possibly $10)

Pokemon Legends: Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Upgrade cost unconfirmed, possibly $10)

Drag x Drive (Likely $70)

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition (Likely $70)

Hades II

Street Fighter VI (Likely $70)

Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion

Split Fiction

EA Sports FC & Madden NFL

Hogwarts Legacy

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4

HITMAN: World of Assassination - Signature Edition

Project 007

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster

Yakuza 0: Director's Cut

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (Likely $70)

Nintendo GameCube | Nintendo Classics (Free with an NSO + Expansion Pack subscription, exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2)

Deltarune Chapter 1+2+3+4

Borderlands 4

Civilization VII: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

WWE 2K + NBA 2K

Survival Kids

Enter the Gungeon 2

STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expedition

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Hollow Knight: Silksong (2025)

Wild Hearts S

Witchbrook

Shadow Labyrinth

RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army

No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: The Somnium Files

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam

Tamagotchi Plaza

The Duskbloods

Kirby Air Riders (Likely $70)

Donkey Kong Bananza ($70)

Now, for the elephant power-up in the room... 'WHY IS MARIO KART WORLD AT $80?'

Frankly, we don't know. Probably greed, could be because the storage size is too big for what Switch 2 carts will hold normally, we don't know, but it is, but luckily it's the exception, not the norm. It might even be $70 digitally in the US if there's a difference in the digital and physical price like in other regions, this is not confirmed though.

To clear up some confusion, It's not gonna be $90, this is an extremely common piece of misinformation being spread today which just isn't accurate, at all.

The official site for Mario Kart World explicitly states an MSRP of $80. Additionally, pre-order pages on sites like Best Buy list it for $80 too. So put simply, the game will be $80, not $90, unfortunately not $70 or $60, but $80.

Again though, while this is a shame, this is not the standard. As Donkey Kong Bananza costs $70, The standard will very likely be $70. Just like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Nintendo confirmed a while back that their pricing was shifting to be more dynamic in range, being cheaper in some parts, but more expensive in other parts, this may be the result of that.

Section 4: The C Button

The last elusive part of the Switch 2; The C Button, was revealed too.

It is for GameChat, which is kind of like Discord, but on Nintendo consoles. You can talk and share gameplay with your friends through a camera accessory and a built-in microphone on the system. You can even use third-party cameras and microphones!

That's not all though.

There is also GameShare, which is basically the modern version of DS Download Play. If one person has a game like Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, then with their friends, through GameShare, they can all play together through one person's copy!

=-=-=-=

That should be all for now! This will be updated as time goes on!

This community has recently passed 1,000 members, thank you all for joining!

To commemorate this, I've made new flairs, and a new icon/banner!

(Icon might be modified a little further for improved visuals; Banner will be updated daily to count down to the direct)

Just after the reveal trailer on Jan 16th, This community drastically skyrocketed in it's activity, it's been cool to see the discussion build up as we get closer to the Switch 2 release!

With the Switch 2 direct just around the corner, this number should naturally spike even further! When that happens, there miiiiiiiiiiiight be mod applications, stay tuned :)

Discussion Pre order warning

So I live in Canada and I tried to go to my local GameStop Canada to trade in my switch OLED and games to get credit to make it cheaper for when I preorder hopefully next week and the store manager told me they will not take in store credit for preorders right away and that you need to put down $250.00 down deposit of either cash or card and then use store credit to pay it off, really annoying and frustrating as they didn't used to do this when I did the ps5 pre order so this is a heads up for my fellow Canadians I wish they would put that on the website.

Question Will the switch 2 support external microphones

With the chat feature being announced on the Nintendo direct, I was wondering if external microphones/ headset mics will work. We were only shown the mic on the console working and Nintendo’s weird about something’s.

Discussion Will Mario Kart World get DLC?

How do you think Mario Kart World will handle future DLC tracks?

Mario Kart 8 got a ton of post-launch support with DLCs that basically doubled the number of tracks—from 48 to 96.

Mario Kart World, on the other hand, only has 28 confirmed tracks so far (maybe a few more we haven’t seen yet). Given how insanely well Mario Kart sells—especially on the Switch—it feels like a no-brainer that they’ll add more tracks down the line.

But here’s the thing: since World is an open-world Mario Kart game where all tracks are physically connected within one big world, it’s hard to imagine how they’d add new tracks the same way. They can’t just drop them in like in MK8, because every track is also a part of the open-world layout.

So how do you think they’ll handle it? Expand the world? Add new areas? Or maybe separate DLC worlds entirely? Curious what you all think.

Question Is there more info on Game/Data Transfer from Switch to Switch 2?

I have both Physical Games and Digital Games. I do remember seeing some news that most of the games of Switch will be compatible with Switch 2 but did we get more news on it?

Also same question for NSO Expansion Pack. I bought it for Switch. Can it be transferred to Switch 2 as well? Like by account/data Transfer etc.

Discussion Why I WON’T be buying a Switch2

It's not really about the price it's more that I'm just not excited enough about it. What I'm looking for is genuine innovation and fresh gaming experiences. I want something that truly stimulates the mind something that engages the frontal cortex and makes you feel like you're in the game, living it in real time. I’m talking about real immersion, where the events feel thrilling, the emotions feel authentic, and maybe even moments of romance or deep connection. I want a console that goes beyond upgraded specs and graphics something that redefines what gaming can be.

Meme What some people actually believe apparently

Post image
15 Upvotes

The whole idea with the packaging and disclaimer was to make the Switch 2 enhanced versions idiot-proof, but I guess they didn't go far enough and needed to put, "does not include a download or code" on the front.

All it says on the packaging is that it, "includes the Switch game (which all these enhanced editions are) and the Switch 2 upgrade pack," (meaning all the enhancements, not a code or download) are included. Then it says, "upgrade pack sold separately" so customers are aware they don't have to buy the new version of the game and can instead upgrade their Switch 1 version.

It was meant to be intuitive.

Discussion Discussion about Game Price Increase

At the onset…the increased prices are jarring considering the potential trickle impact on the rest of the industry.

That being said, has anyone considered the “Game Sharing” side of this and how that will all work?

As a parent with multiple switches in the home I had several games I HAD to buy multiple copies of so people could play (animal crossing, splatoon3, MarioKart 8, etc…). $60x3 is WELL over the $80 price tag anticipated for switch 2 games.

Will a game like MarioKart World be playable on S1 with game sharing? Guessing NOT.

Either way…if I have multiple devices in a home I now only have to buy 1 copy of a game and can share with my household. That is actually sort of a bargain.

The industry impact is scary…yes, but this side of it actually makes a LOT of sense.

Thoughts?

Discussion $20 shy of $100 games... how many people are ok with this?

ok... I know we're in the era of $70 games... and yes it's "only" $10 away from the $60 games we were used to. but I for one have NOT bought a $70 game (I kinda did but only because a friend offered to pay half of the game for me for my birthday). BUT $80 per game, if you think about it is $20 shy of $100... yes you can say $70 was $30 shy of $100 BUT you can do a lot with $30. but with $20... that's basically a fast food meal... or very close (including taxes). what I'm saying is how many of you are ok with paying close to $100 for a slandered game?

I have stayed away from most special and collector's edition games because they were too close to $100 (in many cases over $100). I just can't afford this anymore. also seeing the system may be over $500. I might've been ok with buying the system for $500 BUT adding $80 per STANDARD games? I may have to quit gaming... I bought a bunch of games for the switch so I may be fine playing what I got. you know? ...catching up with my backlog...

Question Ordering a new console from Amazon from another country

Hi everyone, I’m French and I live in Hong Kong now. I succeeded to buy a Switch 2 on Amazon.fr to ship in Hong Kong this morning. Which is great because I don’t find any place to order a Switch 2 here so far. I don’t mind to wait a few more days to get it and to pay a bit more for the delivery as long as I can get one.

However I have a few concerns about this. Will they really send me the console to Hong Kong ? I already ordered a few product from Amazon, like games and had no problem with that. However, I was able to get a Switch 2 to ship to Hong Kong but it wasn’t really easy. At first it didn’t let me book the console if I made it delivered to Hong Kong. My French address would work but not the one here. Then this morning it worked and I could pre order it to be shipped to Hong Kong. Then later on I tried again to do that, but they said that Hong Kong is not eligible for shipping. Then later on I tried again and it worked again. So I’m very confused about that. Will they really send me the console ?

Did someone already shipped a new console to their country through Amazon when it was a new console release ? Did it work ?

The only post online I found about this is someone saying that when his 3DS was gonna be send, they put it on hold and didn’t send it. I don’t know what hapenned to the guy after, but hopefully it’s not what happen to me. It was long time ago now.

I would be happy to hear from you guys if you already ordered from overseas new console release from Amazon and if you got it whitout any problem ?
