Announcement [TOMT][MOD] Solved! - How to mark your post Solved!

2.1k Upvotes

Marking Your Submission Solved!

Make a comment saying Solved! to the first (oldest) correct answer

  • it is important you check that it is the first correct answer on the post. Reddit notifications are often in the wrong order.

  • Only OP or a mod can mark a post Solved!, but if you see the OP say thanks but not reply with Solved! (give them at least several hours), you can report the post to the mods using reddit's report feature (Report - breaks r/tipofmytongue rules - Not Marked Solved!) which will pop a link to the comment or post in to the mod queue for us to review.

  • Editing an existing comment will not trigger the bot - you must make a new comment for the bot to see it.

What if I solve it myself?

Just reply to your comment solving it with Solved! You won't get a point, but the flair will get set.

Here's what you'll see when this is done properly:

  • OP responds with a comment with Solved!
  • Post gets flaired with "Solved" It's usually near immediate. The bot, TipOfMyCircuitboard awards the point to the person the OP replied to.
  • Person who answered gets a reply from the bot notifying of point.

I was on a bus in Mexico heading to a party, and a group of Brits were singing this song. The chorus has been stuck iny head and I've been singing it since that day (and I'm white lol). But I cant find anything about the song existing.

They were playing it over their phone then singing over it, so I know it exists

Open [TOMT][song][1990s] I saw the music video on TV back then (not YouTube), possibly on a channel like MTV or VH1.

I'm trying to find an English-language pop song (remix) from the 1990s or early 20000s — I saw the music video on TV back then (not YouTube), possibly on a channel like MTV or VH1.

The music video had a clear storyline where:

  • man dreams he's saving a girl in a Chinese restaurant.
  • There is a martial arts fight scene, which may have been stylized, comedic, or fantasy-like — similar to old kung fu movie parodies or dream sequences.
  • fortune cookie is a key part of the plot.
  • The fortune reads "Help Yourself," but the man misreads it as "Help", thinking the woman is in danger.
  • This misinterpretation causes him to jump into action, likely fighting or rescuing her.
  • The tone of the video is likely humorous, romantic, or surreal, not overly serious.
  • There may have been a twist ending revealing that nothing was actually wrong — it was all in his head or just a dream.
  • The artist was likely a solo pop singer, and the video had a cinematic or narrative feel, possibly parodying martial arts movies.

I can’t remember the artist, the lyrics, or the exact song title — just the video’s story and vibe.

If anyone remembers this music video or has any idea what song it might be, I’d really appreciate your help!

Hi there, this song randomly came into my mind and I can't figure out what it's called. It's an opera song and I remember watching YouTube shorts of multiple singers performing it. I think it's famously difficult to sing.. so please excuse my attempt. Thank you.

Here's the vocaroo link of me trying to recreate it: https://voca.ro/1fpyaa9qOAtg

Solved [TOMT] TV Crime Show Episode about cult-church

Upvotes

I think it was a Law & Order or CSI type show Two con men pretend to be Father/Son and join a church or cult. The church has gates that when a murder/assault/fire happens and is investigated they aren’t allowing anyone through the gates. When detectives show up they allow them to investigate. The man pretending to be son is seducing/dating a teenage girl. The two con men have either gotten up to the top of the hierarchy/are the top. They were getting ready to steal all the money from the church/cult and disappear when the murder/assault/fire happened. Later in episode man pretending to be father is killed and the one pretending to be the son takes off. He gets the girl to bring him money which is when the detectives catch him

Solved [TOMT] World War era big band song

Upvotes

I distinctly remember the lyric "I kept her serving donuts until she had no more to serve" or something to that effect, and a spoken word interlude that starts with "This tale of army life romance...". I used to hear it on my local oldies station's special block of 1920s to 1940s big band hits.

Open [TOMT] - Asian drama/coming of age - young boy pranks another by crying wolf that there is a herd chasing after him

Upvotes

This one is gonna stump a few people. It's a 2000s asian film. Possibly chinese or south Korean. There is a general story arc of this young boy (#1) becoming a better person but he does a horrible thing near the beginning. The setup is they are in the countryside and a young girl is loudly yelling at a young boy (#2) across the other side of a valley: "Run!", as there is a herd of cattle or bulls chasing him up a hill. The boy manages to escape whilst the girl and another boy (#1) look on from across, the girl is impressed whilst the boy #1 seems jealous. Later on, boy #1 sees boy #2 going up the same hillside and thinks it would be funny to prank him and yells at him to run, boy #2 doesn't look behind him and believes he is being chased when nothing is there. This time boy #2 falls over and thinks he's about to be trampled, only to realise he was tricked and boy #1 laughs at him. After that, boy #1 this time is walking up the hillside and it's boy #2 who is on the other side of the valley yelling for him to run. Boy #1 doesn't believe him and thinks he's trying to get revenge, except it turns out there was a herd running up the hill and he finally suffers for his actions. Can't remember what happened after, whether boy #2 runs over and saves him or something else to that affect. Hopefully this is enough to go by.

Open [TOMT] Winnie the pooh snoring?

This is going to sound weird, but when i watch those "reddit mysteries" this comes to my brain.

The time was somewhere around 2016-2019. I was in a vacation park, specifically center parcs somewhere in the Netherlands. Center parcs is notorious to me for the tv never working and playing the most random stuff (once caught a 90's holiday broadcast midsummer-). I could've been from a personal dvd but i never saw it again after this.

I was alone in the room yet i got my mom to back me up on this. It's was a Winnie the Pooh puppet/costume episode series thingy. Like, lifesized mascot Winnie the Pooh on horrible green screen. There was an episode before that wich i cannot recall but the one that stuck with me was quite odd. It was about Winnie eating too much honey, passing out in his bed (in a coma-like way) and then snoring so loud all the other characters (especially the rabbit i cannot remember the name of) were bothered by it and they had to hide the honey because they couldn't sleep.

Not specifically scary but anything can be scary when you're a kid right?

Open [TOMT] Looking for a specific 80's movie with a phone conversation

Upvotes

Looking for a movie, probably 80's T&A fare, with a scene in which a boy and girl on the phone (alternating shots of each) are setting up a date. The girl is half sitting/lying on a bed or couch, twirling the phone cord around her leg. They agree to bring her cousin who is a little young, but cute, and make it a party with some other boys.

Open [TOMT][MOVIE] Comedy where male actor gets stripped by adoring female fans

Upvotes

I remember a comedy I watched back in the 70's. The movie was, obviously, made earlier than that period but was in color. A male actor is mobbed by several female fans who he has to shove away. Later, he is surprised by the same group of female fans who proceed to tear off his jacket, tie, and shirt, leaving him completely topless and dumbfounded as they run off with his tattered clothes as souvenirs. The scene reminds me of The Professor's dream sequence in St. Gilligan and The Dragon on "Gilligan's Island".

Open [TOMT] [VIDEOGAME?][EARLY 2000s] Computer game/videogame I used to play in school

Upvotes

So, I remember this game we used to play in computer classes during my schools years, so early 2000s (deffo pre-2007, and windows). It was 2D I believe and somewhat pixel-like (although 2000s graphics wouldn't allow for much more, I think?), and I think you could choose between playing a girl or a boy as your main character. I vividly remember that there were different areas that were different ecosystems (like ice or forrest and such). I assume it was some sort of educational game because I ONLY played it during computer classes in school, but I honestly have no clue what were they trying to teach us lol

Going back to the pixel style, I remember you could move through squares (think about Undertale but you can only move one square at the time). And I think the squares were fairly big.

I'm losing my mind and I lowkey wanna play it again, please help!

Open [TOMT] 90s movie where an investigator gets a footprint from dog poop

Upvotes

Okay I remember this from the 1990s on cable TV. Maybe the mid-1990s, but I'm not 100% sure.

It was a random scene that has been stuck in my mind but cannot remember much, but I want to watch the rest of this movie, and see what was up with it.

There's a scene where there was a murder of some sort, I think a woman. And an investigator, who is not even one of the main characters, is being mocked by the other investigators because they managed to secure a footprint or a partial footprint from a bit of dog poop on the floor. And apparently this does lead them to the right direction of who they're looking for. It's a brief scene. I could not tell you the gender of the investigator attempting to use the feces for a clue.

I think it's one of those dramas from the era that might have been considered skinemax fodder. Definitely late night, and not super high budget, but passible for the era.

Again this investigator was not one of the main characters but I recall at another point during their investigation for this killer, the investigator uses another odd clue of some sort, that also gets the mockery, but also helps to lead them in the right direction.

Solved [TOMT][MOVIE][2000s] Romance where woman rents an apartment and shares it with a man from another universe they can’t always see each other, and if they touch, they disappear from each other’s eyes for days

I watched this movie 7 years ago or more on a local TV channel that aired random dubbed movies on Sundays. It was I think unlicensed, since I live in a small town where that stuff don't really matter. Here’s what I remember:

The movie is set in a modern, minimalist NYC apartment with huge floor-to-ceiling windows and very tall ceilings like, very early 2000s aesthetic.

A woman moves into the apartment and finds out she’s sharing it with a man who exists in a different universe. (Very in theme for that time)

They sometimes can see each other, sometimes not, it’s inconsistent.

If they touch, they become invisible to each other for a few days, then it resets.

The guy tries to be respectful about her privacy. There’s a scene where he says something like “I try to be respectful when you suddenly appear changing,” and she replies awkwardly, then it cuts to a scene where she draws the back of his muscular body while he’s changing and can’t see her. Its shown as a "haha, she isnt respecting his privacy".

There’s a funny or sassy woman who gives the girl the apartment keys and says something like “This place is haunted, people leave crazy.” The typical old white lady or black woman who owns the place yk.

The main actress was blonde, big eyes.

The woman dressed very 2000s: button up blouses, those thin scarves with little strings that have balls at the ends, skinny jeans, knee-high boots.

It was a romantic comedy kinda

It had that 2006 aesthetic all over, like ¿you know when you can TELL when was something filmed?

Dubbed, definitely not a mainstream movie. No one I know has ever heard of it since. AND ITS NOT THE REESE WITHERSPOON ONE. I’ve searched for YEARS and never found a title, trailer, or even a still image. I’m starting to feel like I hallucinated it but I know I didn’t. Does anyone recognize this? Please tell me I’m not insane. I always had this movie in the back of my mind but recent new shows reminded me of it again, I NEED TO FIND IT PPL PLZ 😭

Open [TOMT][MUSIC] Song I Heard In A Restaurant (Recording Included)

A while ago I heard a song in a local restaurant that I really liked. I tried to Shazam the song a couple of times but when nothing came up, I recorded a 23-second clip of the song. Because of that, the clip is towards the end of the song.

All I know is that a) this is not a live performance, this was playing from the speaker of the restaurant (also I called the restaurant and they confirmed that they don’t have singers come and perform live) and b) a friend believes that the singer is a local artist Mia Gladstone, as he recognized her voice from songs she did with more popular artists called Bbnos and Young Gravy.

The audio is pretty clear but there are some voices in the back. I tried searching the lyrics I could make out and got no results. Not sure if this is a song by her or a song she is featured or uncredited on.

Here is the clip on Vocaroo: https://vocaroo.com/1oe5WhZSIlh0

I appreciate if anyone can help me find this song!

Open. [TOMT] [Text] [? - 1963] A text, possibly a poem by Sylvia Plath, about her fertility and the abortions of her husband's lover

I'm pretty sure there's a poem, possibly written by Sylvia Plath or some other renowned writer like her, that she wrote for her husband's mistress, who suffered several abortions. The text refers to her (the author) as "being a mother/having babies to nurse/being fertile" while "the other woman" only carries corpses.

I'm from Argentina, and I can't find this text/poem, searching it in Spanish.

Open [TOMT] [Anime Movie/Show/Game?] [90s Anime]Girl trapped inside a pink-ish blob monster, whispering, and a man tries to save her

I saw this as a kid, probably in the early 2000s. My dad watched it, and I was a kid so he was probably clueless that I was paying attention. For context, he was into anime and had a PS2. So he played games like Final Fantasy and showed me things like Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Metropolis, Akira ( Though I don’t think I was supposed to watch the last two )- this could’ve been something similar in style or tone, but it definitely wasn’t any of those.

Here’s what I remember as clearly as I can: • It was animated, possibly anime or anime-style, with an older 2D animation look. • There was a young girl with long brown hair. • She was trapped inside a big, translucent, pink-ish blob (or container or organism—could’ve been organic or sci-fi). • The girl was whispering or softly speaking from inside it—like she was conscious but in a trance or unreachable. • A man (maybe her father or a scientist) and others were panicking, trying to get to her or break her out. • The setting was either a city street at night, but it had an eerie vibe - more surreal or sad. • The blob or thing she was inside of was huge—bigger than a car or person—and the girl looked small and floating inside. • The whole scene had a dreamlike, emotional, or horror tone.

It wasn’t Metropolis (I’ve rewatched that), but it had that kind of serious or surreal energy.

Could’ve been a movie, OVA, a cutscene from a PS2 game, or a short film—honestly not sure.

Please help! This has stuck in my head for years.

Open [TOMT] late 70s/early 80s country song

The song must have had at least a little radio play in the later 1970s or very early 80s because my dad got the 45 for me. It is a country song by a man and it talks about how he and his wife are going to have a baby boy and how he paints the room blue and buys him baseball stuff and at the end he has a little girl and it is just what he wanted. There is a line at the beginning that I almost swear says my wife said the rabbit died. I have searched for this song for decades. Asked the internet, djs, friend and family and have hunted for that 45. If any of you know this song you will be my hero.

Solved [TOMT] [BOOK] The first chapter details a house with leaning floors, a flood comes in and the mother (?) is whisked away into the waves.

For a class I took last year (2024) we got to read the first chapter of several different English language books. I remember one as being particularly interesting to me, but cannot for the life of me find it.

I remember what it says in the title, essentially; I seem to remember the MC being a teenage girl and living alone with her mother in this house with tilted/leaning floors. I believe a storm comes in at the end of the chapter, and that the mother is washed away. I don’t know what else happens in the book.

Is this familiar to anyone? Thank you in advance.
