Advice to Others Uncle Ben brans substitute

I’m seeing posts and comments that uncle Ben’s doesn’t work like it used to. What’s a better alternative?

Everyone should read the official subreddit cultivation guide before posting. It received a major update! Check it out here: Mushrooms for the Mind | How to Grow Psychedelic Mushrooms.

The "Savvy Fare" brand from the green dollar store - is that Dollar Tree? I can never remember - worked well for me. Other people have said they had more success with it than with Uncle Bens. I think the Uncle Bens has a higher moisture content, which a lot of people think is part of the problem with it.

I got some of the Savvy Fare today. They were only $1.25 and apparently don’t contain salt. The daily percentage of sodium was 0.

I’m having amazing success with great value brand (Walmart). Trying the Savvy fare brand (Dollar Tree) now which is the cheapest and driest I’ve found so far.

I bought the value brand from Walmart yesterday, too. But a couple of those bags already look like some of the pics I’ve seen on here where there is contamination in the bag 😂

Idk I’m a newb and having success with them, I tried UB once before but got contamination. So far zero contamination with the GV brand and just waiting to see some colonized rice in the window on the SF brand. I do notice the moisture content goes UB-high GV-mid SF-low, the SF is extremely low moisture to the point that I can move all the grains down in 2-3sec vs the UB which is hard to move around.

This is a GV bag on day 10 since inoculation with LC, I’d posted this recently because I was wondering if colonization time correlates to quality. Another thing I noticed but could be wrong is that it’s better to use LC with the rice bags than spores.

That looks beautiful. I’m planning to inoculate tomorrow, also with LC. What strain are you growing?

That’s great, the LC is definitely the way to go and I’m growing Blue Meanies cube, p.nat from LC and b+ in an aio bag from spore. What are you gonna grow?

Starting with Golden Teacher and Tidal Wave for a variety of potency. I want to try Ochra next simply based on a recommendation here in the sub.

I got lucky with gt before by inoculating a co2 aio bag but that’s the one that failed on the UB bag for me. I’m gonna look into the tidal wave, I’ve heard of it before but not sure if I’ve seen it.

I selected those strains purely on the basis of comments in the guide. I’m already regretting that I didn’t buy more variety when making my initial purchase.

Yea I’m kinda feeling the same way about variety because I found the LC after buying spores but I’m also a bit overwhelmed seeing how much some people are yielding lol, if things go well I may have more than I know what to do with 😅

Is the orcha recommended for its ease of growing or potency?

Both. Easier to grow than a potent strain like penis envy, but as much as twice the potency of GT.

Ok great to know, that’s the same reasoning for me getting the p.nat

I think they’re the same thing, at least according to this comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/unclebens/s/rJgJmD15BY

This hobby is such a rabbit hole lol, I’m also trying the Capri Sun tek and planning to do spore prints if I make it that far.

LOL. I’m already thinking down the road to wanting to get a pressure cooker and thinking about cloning. And I haven’t grown shit yet.

Lol yea it’s the whole process of watching their lifespan and controlling it that’s so relaxing and satisfying. I see why people become so dedicated
