Discussion When Can HR set onboarding dates for exempted positions?

I am currently waiting for a start date as a wg worker in the trades at one of the public shipyards. I have all my pre employment contingencies completed. I have a TJO but HR says they are unable to set start dates yet. Secretary of defense has exempted shipyards from the hiring freeze but HR says they are still frozen. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thank you in advance!

Discussion Anyone getting this message with the onboarding site?

My new location's HR has said they have already done some stuff behind the scenes for my onboarding and gave me my TJO about 1 week ago. So far they said that if there are any tasks to do that I'll see them when I login to the onboarding site. Unfortunately, I get a message that says:

"No Active Records

Your attempt to login failed because USA Staffing could not find any active records associated with the USAJOBS account you authenticated with. If you believe you are receiving this message in error, please contact your Human Resources office."

I've contacted my new HR, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. My start date was pushed back to mid May, as I requested and so far the unofficial date is May 20th per HR. I'm just curious if anyone else has this issue with the site.

Discussion Are IT Specialists at DLA on the risk of being fired

I have a cousin who works for the DLA as an IT Specialist (more specifically sysanalysis) and is just finished with this probationary period about 2 months ago. I am worried for him because he is one the main source of income for his parents right now. I know all jobs in the federal government are at risk right now, but any info on the IT side? More specifically this title?

Discussion Derived Vet Preference

I filled out an SF-12 to assert my husband’s vet preference as the spouse of someone unable to use it (he is 100% permanent and total and drawing Social Security Disability/not working).

HR told me that I’m not eligible because I answered that my husband has not applied for a federal job.

The OPM VetGuide says that “Ten points are added to the passing examination score or rating of the spouse of a disabled veteran who is disqualified for a Federal position along the general lines of his or her usual occupation because of a service-connected disability. Such a disqualification may be presumed when the veteran is unemployed and:

…is rated by appropriate military or Department of Veterans Affairs authorities to be 100 percent disabled and/or unemployable; or…

(the others don’t apply).

Does my husband actually have to apply and get rejected? He was a combat medic in the military (and a firefighter before he joined) and broke his back in a helicopter crash. He can barely walk most days, much less work as a nurse or a firefighter, so it feels like a pointless exercise.

Application Status Probationary Period?

So I was recently referred for 2 positions. One I have an interview for this Wednesday and one I am waiting to find out when the interview is. Both were on hold because of the hiring freeze but it seems now they can move forward. I'm unsure if its worth it to accept either one if selected. It seems like they have permission to hire for those positions but having to do another probationary period is way to risky right now. Has anyone ever had the probationary period waved? Is it even possible?

Timeline 1 Year Anniversary

Hello everyone. Wow. Times have really changed since I entered this role just one year ago….I miss the days where we all were sharing our timelines, complaining about odd referral notices, and asking questions about certain departments and offices and their culture. Some of those offices may not exist now.

Just wanted to share a brief moment of positivity as I officially hit my 1 year today and allegedly have passed probation. Without this thread, I would not have had the slightest clue where to start.

I may not be in this role much longer due to Madame RIFfington ( as we’re calling her in my tiny little office), but wow what I would not give to bitch about getting a referral for only a 7 and not a 9 again.

Stay strong friends.

Tips HELP - Interpret reason for ineligibility

Hi! Would someone be able explain in laymans terms why my application was determined to ineligible? For reference, I've outllined the reason provided below. For context, I applied to an Senior Executive Service position, provided all necessary documentation including detailed narratives regarding ECQ's and TQ's. I would appreciate any assistance the community provide as I will utilize the feedback for future USAJOBS applications.

----------------------------------------

Thank you for your interest in a Senior Executive Service (SES) position with... Your application package was reviewed, and you were determined INELIGIBLE for the above position.

Ineligible for the following position or positions:

  • ES-0201-00; You were not considered because your application does not show that you are eligible to apply under merit promotion procedures. You are not a current or former Federal employee with status in the Competitive service at a lower grade level than the position being announced, nor are you eligible under the Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA).

Discussion Buy Back Military Time and Federal Reduction In Force

Post image
0 Upvotes

What happens to the folks who bought back their military time and get laid off due to the recent executive orders?

  1. Can they be refunded the money?
  2. If they accept future federal employment, will the payments carry over?
  3. Any other considerations I’m not thinking of?

Why I ask? I’m considering accepting federal employment after 18 years of active service. Not sure if it so wise to pay to have my military service credited towards my fed annuity.

Tips Address Verification for SF-85 (Low-risk Position)

I have been offered a position that asked me to fill out the SF-85 form. It is a low-risk position. I wanted to inquire about the address verification process. Do they call/mail/visit the address verifiers I have listed in the form? What sort of questions do they ask? I have shared my time between two different addresses last year (used both to receive mail), should I list both of them in the form?

Timeline GAO Summer Internship timeline

Hello,

I was fortunate to receive a TJO from the GAO as a summer analyst intern. I completed all the forms asked of me and am waiting to hear back from a specialist to complete my SF-86. They said they’d reach out to me in 3-5 business days. It’s been over a week and am not sure if i should email HR for an update. I already sent one email and didn’t get a response. Should I just wait it out?

Timeline General Engineering DOD-Navy Exemption Time Period

Anyone has any idea on the timeline on filing an exemption for hiring for the General Engineering position with DOD? And if approved - would this be relatively safe from any RIFs in the future since it was exempted in the first place?

Application Status Three interview offers!

Hi everyone! I’m a recent graduate who just received three interview offers within a month. I’ve been applying since before I graduated (grad in dec) way back in July. I understand that things are so uncertain now, and a lot of us are struggling and unsure of what’s to come.

I’ve received so much great advice from people on here, and just wanted to express my gratitude to the federal job community. I never thought I would find out how to make a strong resume, interview advice and tips, and have complete strangers be so kind as to edit and critique my resume for me on Reddit of all places. This forum and the other federal jobs forums have been such a kind and helpful communities that I’ve learned so much from. This may be cheesy but please know I greatly appreciate every one of you and what you do for our country!

I don’t know how the interviews will go or if I will hear anything back once the hiring freeze is over, but I wanted to spread a little positivity for others, and give hope to other recent grads and federal job hopefuls like myself.

Discussion Tentative offer question

Hello! I recently got a tentative offer with the USDA-fsis for a job. I'm graduating in May, and so I've done literally everything but send them my transcript. They know I'm graduating in May and everything so it's no issue, but my parents have some concerns that I figure I should at least come to some other people and see if they're even valid concerns. We've had a family member who had supposedly gotten a job with FEMA, and when she went to her first day of work she got there and turns out she actually didn't have the job?? As in, went through all the paperwork signed all the stuff got there the first day and they said that she wasn't on the roster and when she emailed later they said it was a error????

I'm wondering if this is an actual thing. Like has this actually ever happened to someone? Mostly wondering because this job is four states away, and I don't want to get there only to end up having to search for another job. If there's a chance that something like that might happen. I'm not sure if this is the right flair to add but I hope it is.

Application Status Immigration Services Officer for outside Agencies?

Trying to apply for the Immigration Services Officer and I am seeing assessment questions like:

"Select the activities you have completed to communicate with applicants and petitioners applying for immigration benefits."

I'm a GS04 Treasury worker and the only option is "None of the Above".

Are positions like these made for someone who already interned for the USCIS?

Otherwise, how is a prospective applicant supposed to qualify these questions??

Discussion Changing Hiring Paths after TJO due to RIF Possible?

Hello! I accepted a TJO with a DOD position OCONUS before the hiring freeze and am in the waiting game like many folks are. I am currently with a non-DOD agency that may undergo a RIF later this month (via leaked plan, possibly ~40% cut). When I applied for the DOD job, I applied as a Competitive Service hiring path for my eligibility. I reached out to CPAC and they informed me that if my current status changes and I am no longer competitive service, e.g. I get RIF'd, I am not able to continue the onboarding process for the DOD job. Is it possible to change eligibilities after TJO? I assume the representative is correct and it's not possible but ICTAP was listed as a hiring path for the position so was hoping I can jump over to that eligibility if RIF'd. I understand that I clicked the competitive service button and not the ICTAP eligibility when applying so perhaps that's the issue. If anyone can confirm or say otherwise, I would appreciate it. Just wondering if I should press the issue with CPAC as in my experience, some HR's don't always get it right.

Thank you and hope we all get through this and hope the hiring freezes end soon.

Discussion Hiring Freeze Exemptiond

Any news when public safety will be exempt from the hiring freeze? And where did the “F” up happen; memo from Hegseth stated that mission essential would be immediately exempt but that’s clearly not the case.

Discussion Has anyone received a job offer for a Bureau of Interior position (Park Ranger, Guide, Technician, etc) from an announcement marked "exempt from hiring freeze"?

Been applying to these jobs left and right for six weeks now and most are due to start this month or next. I'm guessing a lot of former Feds are applying with CTAP.

Specific Opening DOD natural resource jobs?

Hello everyone,

I am a rangeland science major (another form of ecology) and as a veteran I wanted to go into a federal position because it just makes so much sense as a veteran. I know the major players in natural resource jobs BLM, USFS, USDA, etc. but I recently found out that DOD has some. Are there specific job codes for those positions? does anyone know what they try to focus on? I know the military has huge amounts of land and I am interested in how they manage the land in which they use. I heard an interesting bit on how the army in advertently keeps a fire regime going through their shooting/explosive ranges. If anyone has any knowledge on this I would really appreciate it. I know the fed hiring freeze is still ongoing, but it wont last forever, hopefully. I like the idea of going into civil service and serving the country in another manner. thanks for the help

Timeline Anyone onboarded OCONUS since hiring freeze?

I’ve been stuck for a month. Just curious if anyone has been onboarded for an OCONUS position in the last month or so.
