WUSA has SERIOUSLY stepped up their game

It used to be that I’d be sorely disappointed by any WUSA event (especially around 2021-2023). I remember going to the free brunch event once and it was literally 2 tiny pancakes, a packet of syrup, and a bottle of concentrate juice. Talk about a balanced meal! But wow, the events they run nowadays are absolutely amazing. Anything with free food never ever disappoints. Today’s free shawarma event had shawarmas, fries, pickled veggies, a drink, AND a piece of baklava (which I think just shows an incredible attention to detail). As a fourth year I’m really proud of how much our student org has improved.

Advice Skipping Final Exam

I’m not able to write my final exam. I will be out of the country and there’s nothing I can do about it.

Notes:

  • I don’t need to pass the exam to pass the course.
  • If I was given a 0 on the final, I would have above a passing grade.
  • I know that IN GENERAL, if I don’t show up to the exam, I get an INC which means I won’t pass in the course.
  • I emailed the prof and waiting for their response.

That being said, I don’t care what grade I get. Give me 0 for all I care. As long as I pass the course.

Has anyone been in this situation?

Question Alumni Card for PAC access: do I need to hand in my watcard to get an alumni card that allows me purchase PAC memebership?

I'm to graduate this term and I still want to go to PAC after I graduate - I read that the alumni card allows me to purchase PAC membership but I'll have to go in-person to get it. Do they ask you to hand in the original watcard when you get a photo alumni card?

How Hard is too get too NYC from Waterloo ActSci (or the States in General)

  • If any UW Alumni, or any upper years answer these questions id greatly appreciate it!
  • How competitive is it to land an entry-level actuarial role in NYC straight out of Waterloo?
  • How tough is the visa sponsorship process, and do most actuarial firms sponsor international students?
  • Any tips on building connections or finding the right recruiters/companies that are open to hiring grads from Canada?
  • Does being based in Canada (SOA track) make it harder to find roles in NYC compared to someone doing CAS or vice versa?

(edit: Im a canadian citizen)

Best residence for grad students? CLV North?

Hey folks, I’m an incoming grad student trying to figure out the best residence option. Right now, I’m leaning towards CLV North—it looks quiet, comfy, and I like the townhouse vibe. I’m also planning to get a car, so being a bit further from campus isn’t a huge deal for me.

That said, I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions online about CLV in general—some people say it’s trash, others say it’s fine. Most of those posts are a few years old though, so I’m wondering if anything has changed recently.

Anyone currently living there (or lived there recently) who can share their thoughts? Is CLV North decent for a grad student who wants peace and quiet? Or should I be looking elsewhere?

Appreciate any insights!

Are my interests aligned with the Computer Engineering Program at UWaterloo?

I want to start off by saying my current interests and what I would like to pursue as a career is writing and optimizing low level software. For instance, maybe programming in C/C++/Assembly, working with Compilers, or writing/optimizing Operating Systems. Essentially, something that includes making low level computer systems more efficient using knowledge of data structures and algorithms.

I have 2 questions related to this.

A) Is Computer Engineering a degree that enables me to thoroughly dive into my interests or would a program like CS be more suitable?

B) How is the job market related to low level software development? Are there jobs like this in FAANG or maybe in the tech side of the quantitative finance sector. I've been looking into quant firms and found that they use C++ to implement efficient algorithms (something that I am curious and interested about.)

Thanks for the help!!

Discussion Male Hairstylists

Any barbers around that help you plan out a haircut/hairstyle based on your facial features? I am sure I can ask any barber to do so but I feel most of them prefer being told what to do specifically. I want to try going for a new look but have nothing in mind
